The forest was silent to him. All seemed to be quiet. Just like it always did. Of course all the sounds that the clan cats heard: Bird calls, wind, water were quite soft compared to the screams of Twlegs and the roars of monsters that he was used to. It was a relief to get away for once.
Yet he still had to be careful. The 'clans' had claimed this patch of land as their's. It had been that way forever, though it was quite annoying to this tom. The best food was here, and he couldn't even get to it! Well, not with permission anyway. Instead, he wandered in whenever he wanted to snatch a good, plump piece of prey. These borders that they were said to patrol didn't matter to him. And, with his odd streak of luck, he hadn't been captured yet. He had been spotted, but managed to escape each time.
His black pelt gleaming as he passed through the sunlight, a smile curled onto this joker tom's face. He had always found a curious intrest in the forest, liking it better then his life-long home near Trenton. However, life got boring there. He was tired of playing the same jokes on the same cats. Well not anymore. It was time to slip up another cat, one that wouldn't know that he was Jester.
Soon Jester had found what he was looking for. A sparrow, now crowfood was in place beside three fat mice. If he was lucky, someone would come by and pick them all up, only to discover the stench of crowfood in thier mouth. It was a classic back home that worked every time. The smell at home was too strong to distinguish food from crowfood.
Poking the pile closer together with his paw one last time, Jester took a moment to scan his surroundings. No one was close yet. Time to hide. The tom strolled toward a tree that was only a few tail-lengths away. With practiced ease he scampered up it as well as a squirrel would. Now, hidden in the branches, he would wait.

A mottled she-cat padded through the forest. She caught a strong scent of rogue and crowfood. Amberwind paused as the wind ruffled her fur. The she-cat sat down and curled her tail over her paws. Amberwind didn't often get a moment alone like this, especially in camp, which is why she liked to patrol and hunt by herself. The mottled she-cat was an excellent hunter and no cat could question her loyalty to Tempestclan.
Still, she wanted something new to happen. Her clanmates seemed content to do the same things every day, but Amberwind found it boring. She loved to explore and hunt, but lately, she caught the same things when she was hunting and every day progressed at the same pace.
Amberwind shook her sculpted head and padded up to where she had buried three mice. The she-cat gently dug up the prey with her claws, only to discover that a sparrow had joined the mice. She tilted her head slightly to the side in curiousity before resolving that an apprentice must have added the bird to the pile. Amberwind sighed. She would have to carry them all back to camp. Amberwind picked up the sparrow in her mouth and her nose was immediatly flooded with crowfood-scent. Hissing, Amberwind skidded backwards, dropping the crowfodd almost immediatly.

Jester watched eagerly from his position on the branch as one of the clans many members entered the small clearing. He gave himself a congratulations when he realized that she must have buried the mice he hid the crowfood in. What luck! Keeping his claws buried in the tree's bark, he waited intensly.
There! She had it! The tom let out a choking laugh as this unknown she-cat stumbled back in disgust, the sparrow abandoned on the ground. It was too good! He had thought right. The cat had thought the crowfood was with him, while the scent of her own prey blocked out the real source. Closing his eyes, he continued to laugh loudly. However, in his state, had had loosened his grip on the branch. Suddenly, another branch brushed against him, blown by the wind. The nudge knocked him off balance, sending him tumbling off. Clawing wildly at the air, Jester let out a surprised yowl as he fell onto the mossy ground below. There he lay, winded. It wasn't a large fall that caused injury. It was just the surprise of it all. The tom shook his head before stumbling to his feet. Confused, he gazed around. "What was I doing?" He meowed outloud, momentarily forgetting the joke he had just played.

Amberwind's icy blue eyes flashed angrily as a large tom tumbled out of a tree, before the she-cat bursting into laughter at the realization of what had just happened. "You're clever rogue." She snickered. Not many rogues would try to pull off a trick like this and very rarely would any cat succeed. Quietly, she padded over to the three mice and sniffed them carefully. They were still fresh. "Good." She murmured to herself. Amberwind shot a glance at the tom then tossed one of the mice his way. "Here." She mewed. "You deserve it."
The mottled she-cat covered the two remaining mice with a thin layer of dirt, to hide them from predators before turning back to the tom. She wasn't on a hunting patrol so technically, she could eat, but Amberwind wasn't hungry. "Who are you?" She mewed, attempting to strike up a conversation, her muscles still primed to attack or defend herself if this tom tried anything stupid.

Jester shook the last bit of dust from his pelt before looking to Amberwind. Suddenly, a mouse came his way, landing at his paws. He stared at it a moment before realizing she had said something.
You deserve it.' He did? Hmmm. Oh well. Food for free. He wasn't going to turn that down. Sitting down, the tom began to scarf down the meal. He hadn't realized that he was so hungry. This mouse was better than the rats he usually ate anyway. So much better. All too soon the prey was gone. A shame, but something he was used to. Whatever's good never lasts long in his world.
Licking his lips, Jester looked back up at the warrior, now more relaxed. "I rather like the term Loner, if you don't mind. Rogue sounds so......Bad." He meowed, flicking one ear in her direction. "As to who I am, the name's Jester. And you?" He added, relieved he hadn't had fur ripped off yet. There was still time for that though.

Amberwind perked her ears as the tom responded. "Jester eh?" She mewed, letting the name roll off her tongue. The she-cat shuffled her paws. She should chase the tom off of Tempestclan territory, but something stopped her. Amberwind turned her icy blue gaze to look at the tom. He didn't look like trouble, but he also could be hiding something from her. Amberwind curled her fluffy mottled tail around her white paws. "I'm Amberwind." She mewed lightly. Then, adding a touch of defensiveness to her voice, she added, "What are you doing on Tempestclan territory?"
Amberwind's mind wandered. She had never met a loner before. All she knew about loners and rogues is what she had heard from the elders as a kit, and that wasn't much. As a kit, Amberwind had much preferred watching her clanmates over listening to silly stories from the elders and queens.

Jester looked around at the surrounding landscape with an intrested expression. The towering trees weren't that numerous. Even from here he could see the large moor land with a mountain in the distance. It was pretty, even to him. Turning his head back to Amerwind, he tilted his head to the side. "Amberwind? Pretty name for a pretty she-cat." He meowed, not bothered by these words. It was the truth. A nice name, pretty she-cat. Simple as that.
Now noticing the defensive streak that underlayed her tone, the black cat smiled. She was only defending her home. He could respect that. Now to answer it, that would be slightly difficult. "I just got bored of where I live. Decided to roam around, live up to the loner legacy." He meowed casually.

Amberwind followed Jester's gaze as he glanced around Tempestclan territory. The tom said he was bored of his home, but she couldn't lie and say that she was thrilled with hers either. Instead the mottled she-cat squirmed uncomfortably. "Are you planning on joining a clan?" She mewed. Jester might like clan life, and, who knows, he might actually liven things up. Lately, clan life had gotten redundent and boring. Amberwind didn't have any real competators or enemies, and although lately it seemed like every cat was her friend, she wasn't particularly close to any specific cat. The queens appreciated her help but Amberwind didn't really have that much in common with them. She didn't have kits of her own to take care of, so she knew nothing about what the queens talked about. The apprentices all had friends their own age and merely looked to her as a mentor and an older cat, rather than a friend. She was more lighthearted than most of the warriors, and didn't really like to gossip about the neighboring clans as much as they did, so she preferred to keep to herself.

Jester snorted at this last comment. Join a clan? Never. He didn't want to be cooped up at night, ordered around. He was a free creature, one that treasured being alone at times. In a clan, he would never get that same sense of adventure he got now. The mere idea was mindblowing to him, impossible. Never, ever would he consider it. Besides, he'd have to change his name to something odd like Nightpelt or something. He already changed his name once, and he rather liked his current name.
"No, I haven't. And I don't plan to. Why would I want to?" He questioned, voice filled with distaste. This was a plan her certainly wouldn't follow.

Amberwind flattened her mottled brown ears slightly. "Other cats to be friends with, there's always fresh-kill, and and warm places to sleep at night." She listed off the reasons aloud, though, to her, her voice sounded hollow, as though she were listing off rules, and not things that made her happy to be a part of Tempestclan. Though, comparitivly, Amberwind would take life in a clan over life as a loner any day. She couldn't imagin living alone. "Are you at least going to stick around for a little while?" Amberwind mewed hopefully. Jester seemed like a nice tom and he could be a good friend, even if he didn't want to join Tempestclan. Amberwind flicked her mottled tail patiently, waiting for a response.

Jester swept his tail along the ground behind him, stirring up small insects that had hidden in the grass. The tom listened to her reasons and let out a small chuckle. He could easily fire back at this one. "I like being alone, there's fresh kill here too, I just have to take it, and I do have a safe place to sleep at night. He meowed, feeling quite clever. Then, catching the hollow yet hopeful tone that underlayed her next words, he jerked his muzzle toward a secluded clearing not far off. He made up his mind, then and there that he would be staying at least for a little while. "Suppose I will. Why not? Good food here, shelter, and someone to talk to. Even I get lonely." He meowed, giving a broken laugh.

Amberwind rolled her ice blue eyes. "Don't take fresh-kill unless you're doing something for Tempestclan." She sighed. "We do actually have kits and elders to feed." Amberwind flicked her tail back and forth. "If any other cat from Tempestclan caught you here," The she-cat's voice trailed off. If one of the other warriors caught Jester in Tempestclan territory or if they caught her talking to him, her leader would rip her fur off. Whe Amberwind thought of how lonely Jester must be, she secretly wondered how any cat could stand to be alone for so long, but when she thought of how isolated she felt in her own clan, the tom's predicament made sense. "I can offer to patrol this area but I don't know how I'll keep any of the apprentices from findng you." She murmured.

Jester sighed, pretending to look guilty for a moment. He would take prey, but would hunt for them in return. Why not? He was helping a friend out here and her other.....friends. Standing up he stretched and busied himself for a moment while she was talking. Finally he worked out a solution. "Oh don't worry about the apprentices. I can handle them. Or hide. With the fresh-kill thing.....We'll see." He meowed, not mentioning that he would hunt for them. "So why are you alone? You seem eager to get me away from my torturous lonlieness. Why not you?" He teased, a glint of laughter sparkling in his eyes.

Amberwind flicked her ears and laughed. "It's not torturous lonlieness..." she mewed hesitantly. "I just prefer to hunt alone." She lied. Amberwind couldn't help but wonder how Jester would avoid the apprentices. Some of them could scent pretty well. Amberwind pushed the small worry out of her mind. He was a loner and was probably pretty used to take care of himself. "Don't pull the crowfood joke on them." She snickered, picturing the would-be reactions from some of the more serious apprentices. Amberwind knew they would be less than pleased. The mottled brown she-cat's mind began to wander again. She hoped to get an apprentice soon.

Jester joined in her laughter, his whiskers twitching. The loner felt relaxed, so unlike him. Perhaps this Amberwind was a pretty nice cat that could be a friend. Yes, she probably could. The tom smiled again, though this time is was a bit of a guilty smile. "But that tricks fun!" He meowed, whining slightly. However he knew she was right. If the same thing kept happening, he could get caught.
Turning on the spot, he looked over his shoulder at his companion. "I'm going to hunt to make up for that mouse I ate. Want to come? Jester offered, his tail tip twitching hopefully.
