"The wisest cat in StarClan couldn't figure out your twisted, birdbrained mind!" Sparrowflight snarled. "Good riddance," she hissed as he left with Autumnleaf.
Coyotesong watched the fight disperse, his cheerful spirits slightly dampened. "You okay?" he asked Sparrowflight when the others had disappeared. She didn't seem to be in much of a talking mood, but he had to ask anyway. "Need to talk about it?"
Sparrowflight was too exhausted to snap at him. "No, I'm not okay," she grumbled, tail lowered and ears pinned back. "I'm just going to...take a walk. You go back to camp. Sorry about the patrol." And, with that, she turned and sprinted off toward the meadows so fast that she was out of sight within seconds. Coyotesong stared after her, then sprang after Whispercloud and Autumnleaf. Those two didn't want to talk either, he felt, so he bounded ahead of them and reached the camp before them, where he promptly sat down by the still unfinished rabbit and continued to eat. He'd find someone to go on a patrol later.

Whispercloud stopped and turned around to face her. "Why would you do that?!" He hissed at her, being mates had already started badly. Would it even last? "You had no right to attack her!" He scolded, watching as she got low to the ground. He sighed, and when he saw her cry, he licked the tears away. "Come on... don't.." He whispered, feeling pity for the she-cat.
Autumnleaf felt bad, she had tried to make Sparrowflight jealous, so she'd realize who she loved. And she ruined it! She was crying before she knew it, and then her friend licked her tears away. She looked up, barely a whisper. "I wanted to make her jealous... so she'd realize that she liked you... I'm sorry!" She wailed, and her belly was touching the ground. She was trembling.
Whispercloud sighed in relief as he realized they didn't have to be mates. "I'm gonna go talk to her.." He mewed, and headed off towards the forest. He was tracking her, and when he found her, he padded up besides her. "Sparrowflight?"

Coyotesong couldn't help but listen as the two cats spoke, and he glanced up as Whispercloud started padding away. Autumnleaf was left alone, and the cheerful young warrior could not help but rise slowly to his paws and pad quietly over to her. "Seems like things aren't working out so well," he mewed sympathetically, sitting down beside her. "I know you're upset, but Whispercloud has left, and we can either sit here in sadness or go out on a hunt...in the opposite direction of the other two grumpy furrballs." Sparrowflight ran and ran, and when she stopped she was still not tired--she could have run for another mile. But she needed to stop, because she didn't want to leave the territory, and...she didn't want to run anymore. She ran to be happy, not when she was miserable. Sitting down, she curled her tail around her forepaws and bent her head, glaring at the grass between her paws. And, he came. Sparrowflight's coat bristled as she heard his voice, but...he didn't sound accusing. She sniffed the air, and Autumnleaf's scent was not there, besides the bit that clung to Wispersong's pelt. "You said what you did to me, and then..." she began, stopping as a growl rose in her throat. She forced it down; she didn't want to yell. "And then, when Autumnleaf asks you to be her mate, you accept." She looked up and stared Whispercloud straight in the eyes. "I don't believe you anymore. Apparently who you love changes every day," she growled, frustrated. Deep down, she knew they were both in the wrong, not just Whispercloud, but...her heart was snarling like a tiger, and she couldn't stand back and try to see it from his point of view. She just...couldn't.[/blockquote]

Tears were streaming down the tom's face as he heard what she had to say. "You stupid furrball... I don't love her. I felt bad for her," He told her, his voice was thick of agony. "You do know that she likes Fleetfoot, right?" He mewed, laughing softly. An attempt to lighten the mood. Whispercloud licked her affectionatly, and looked into her eyes. "My love is only for you. My heart belongs to only you. Fuzzball." he mewed, smiling a little.
Autumnleaf smiled a little, and then sighed. "I owe them an appology, and not to be rude. But I must decline your offer. The cat I really love, I want to talk to him." She mewed sweetly, padding into the warriors den.

"Then why would you ever say yes?" she demanded, still managing to glare at him even as her anger loosened. She started at his words. "And why would she ask to be your mate if she likes Fleetfoot?" she was surprised--Sparrowflight wasn't particularly observant when it came to who liked who in the Clan. She grumbled again when he licked her, but when she looked up, she was no longer glaring. "I called you a two-faced pile of foxdung," she admitted, just in case he hadn't overheard her. "But you aren't. Sorry." She hesitated, then added, "But you're still a mousebrain. And you still sleep as deeply as an old badger." She sighed, stood up, and licked him on the ear. "Maybe I feel more for you than I once did, but..." Speak your mind, mousebrain, she told herself when she hesitated. "But I'm not ready to be anyone's 'mate'." She looked into his eyes anxiously, trying to judge his reaction. Who would have thought her cranky young mentor would have come to mean so much to her? Not Sparrowflight, that's for sure. StarClan works in odd ways.

Whispercloud took it suprisingly well, but he wasn't exactly happy either. He licked her on the head, and smiled. "That's all I wanted to know, Fuzzball." He purred, glad that he hadn't lost his best friend. He purred softly, and looked at her. All he had to say was in his eyes. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that to you, you mean the world to me... He was truley happy for a friend like her. Her pushed her towards camp. "C'mon." He smiled, and set off for camp. His best friend at his side. He wasn't looking forward to the warrior's den tonight, though.

"Let's go," she agreed, relieved to find this ordeal over with...for the moment. She padded along beside Whispercloud, content to move slowly, step by step, with her friend. Because of the occurrences of this day and the day before, nothing stopped Sparrowflight from walking just a bit closer to Whispercloud than usual, so that their shoulders brushed every so often. She might have curled her tail towards his, even, but something stopped her, and her ears flicked back uncomfortably. An unusual streak of shyness kept her from breaking the silence. The camp came into sight much too soon, and she stopped a few tail-lengths from the entrance, and turned to face Whispercloud. "I'm just not ready to be your mate. But I am ready to be more than friends...?" it became a question, as his "I love you" the day before had become a question. Embarrassed, she gave him a quick lick on the nose before retreating into the camp.

Whispercloud was uncomfortable walking in silence. It was awkward, he was used to talking to Sparrowflight, but today was not an ordinary day, no? He felt their pelts brush though, and he could have sworn her tail touched his at times, but he was just imagining it... right?
The camp entrance came too soon, and he tried not to show his annoyance. He tilted his head at her question statement, and shivered when she licked him. Embarrassed, he walked into camp slowly, staring at his friend. Sighing, he padded past her and whispered, "Fuzzball." You could almost hear his smile.
He retreated into the warriors den, he had enough excitement for one day, and he hoped the rest of his seasons that what had happened today NEVER happened again. He walked over to his bed of moss, next to Sparrowflights, and lay down. He closed his eyes, and darkness washed over him.

((whoa! I did! hehe)) Fighting was exhausting, and Sparrowflight found herself as worn-out as Whispercloud. She watched him disappear into the warrior's den, then followed after a few seconds later. "Lumbering badger," she mewed, settling quickly into her moss and curling her long tail over her nose. She prayed to StarClan that her sleep would come quickly, even if it brought with it one of her vivid, waking-dreams. She wanted to end this day, and forget all that had happened....and, as if StarClan were watching out for her, she drifted off into a world of sleep.

In Whispercloud's dreams he saw his littermates. Mistkit and Foxkit. He was twisting nervously in his sleep, and he was scared of what was going to happen next. "Mistkit! Stop it!" He yelled, terrified that he was going into a fox den. Foxkit was back in camp, asleep. "You mousebrain, nobody is in here! Watch." After a few moments, there was silence. Then a sickening crunch and an agonizing scream. Whisperkit screamed, "MISTKIT!!!" He raced back to camp, terrified.
He told the clan leader, and they sent a patrol out. He knew what they'd find. He couldn't bear the thought of telling his sweet sister that she'd never see her brother again. He was crying now, wondering why there had to be a fox in that den. His sister woke up and....
His eyes snapped open to the new day as sunlight hit his eye lids. He was panting hard and he was terrified. Why did he dream of that? Why? He was so scared, and put his muzzle into Sparrowflight's fur for comfort.

The rabbit was so close she could taste it! Sparrowflight stretched her stride out, sprinting faster than she'd ever gone. Closer, and closer and closer...."Mistkit!" the yowl tore through the small warrior's dream and her head shot up, searching for the cause of the trouble. The warrior's den was dim and quiet, and the other cats were still asleep. Had she been the only one to hear the shout? She could feel Whispercloud beside her, twitching strangely, and she glanced over at him in alarm. "Whispercloud, are you okay?" she whispered, bending down to lick him on the ear. He awoke with a start and pressed his muzzle into her fur, and her eyes widened in surprise. "Whispercloud?" she mewed quietly, shifting herself so that she could wrap her tail around his shoulders as she licked his forehead rapidly. She felt like a queen comforting her kit, she was so worried. "What happened?"((I call my cats babies too Poor little Whispercloud))[/blockquote]

Whispercloud was whimpering softly and he murmured, "Mistkit... it's my fault..." He blinked away tears, but the grey tom was shaking now. It hadn't occurred to him that he never told Sparrowflight about his brother. He looked up at her, feeling a bit of comfort from the lickings he received. He looked up at her, and sighed. "When I was a kit.. I had a brother named Mistkit... he got killed by a fox.. it was my fault!" He cried, the tears came freely now.

Pale yellow eyes studied Whispercloud as he shook, and Sparrowflight felt her heart coming very close to breaking. She licked his eyes, but the tears were so fast that for every one she licked away, another two had fallen. "Whispercloud..." she mewed in distress, shifting position again to rest her chin on his neck. "You were only kits. How could it be your fault?" She was startled to hear that Whispercloud had ever had a brother; throughout all their moons of training and the moons afterwards, he'd never once mentioned it but...she didn't feel upset or annoyed. Right now, she just wished she had an idea what to say to comfort him.

Whispercloud shook his head. "I told him not to, I tri...ed to stop him.. and then Foxkit... she couldn't handle it...but she's still here... but..." He started to wail louder and put his paws on his muzzle. He tried to block the noise, the crunch, from his mind...but it kept coming back. Crunch... Crunch... Cru- "WHISPERKIT!!!" He started to cry again, seeking comfort from his friend. He wished Foxfable was here now, but his sister was on a patrol. Sulking, his clouded eyes stared at Sparrowflight.

Needless to say, Sparrowflight had no idea what to do. She'd never comforted a cat before...and her way of showing affection had always been to snap at a cat. But she couldn't do that now! "Whispercloud, it's okay," she mewed pathetically, licking him roughly on the cheek. "It must have been awful, but you...you know you tried to stop him. You were just a kit." She lifted her head to look into his eyes. She opened her mouth to speak again but...she couldn't think of what to say. So she nuzzled her head against his and hoped the words would come.
