hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you The black tom rolled his eyes and chuckled darkly. ”See it that way if you want but I can assure you it was very good advice, but you can lead your clan as you wish and I will keep a running total of your warriors that come running to me.” He replied smugly, his feathery tail swishing from side to side. ”Oh now look who is throwing a tantrum.” The strained tone of voice that Pyrestar was doing suggested that she was reaching her limits and that she couldn’t deal with his demeanour. Voidstar had a certain charm to him and many had trouble accepting it, yet he knew the real reason that he got under Pyrestar’s skin. ”Please, there are no borders to keep up when travelling since you don’t have a territory...but have you not observed them out there? They have all been keeping to their respective clans, well aside from Celestialclan but they don’t exactly count since they no longer have a clan and are quite frankly a bit lost. Let them be where they are most at home which evidentially looks like in a group with their clan mates.” He replied with a sly smile, enough to make ones pelt slither with unease.
As Voidstar opened his mouth to say something he was interrupted by Havocstar taking charge of the situation causing the black tom to look rather irritated. He admired the fairness that Havocstar had but at the same time there was no need to repeat everything that they had just spoken about because it was simply wasting time. Paying vague attention to what the tabby was saying he glanced around the den curiously, deciding that he did not fancy sleeping here as it was far too close to the ground for his personal liking. That was until he heard something that he agreed with. ”Yes exactly, that is why I am confused. You say that you don’t have enough prey to support us all and that we have to move, then you proceed to scold us about wanting to leave too quickly.” He added in with a growl. It was possible that indecision was a female thing as the two male cats had decided what they wanted out of this, then here she was jumping all over the place and trying to mess with their heads. ”Perhaps you should take time to think about what you really want before you bring us into it Pyrestar?” He suggested coolly, although there was still a hint of arrogance in his tone.
”Be sure to talk to your selected cats Havocstar, and have a good evening.” He called after the tom, waving his tail. ”Well he seems to be quick to back out of a fight, I should keep that in mind for future reference.” Voidstar chuckled, suspecting that it would come in handy at some point in the future. ”And that the last thing you will do is back down from a fight, I assume you are the type to win or die trying.” He added, now looking at Pyrestar with his usual cheeky smirk.

he really was a slimeball, and it never failed to make her skin crawl, to make her bear her teeth and lose it. she hated him, voidstar. she hated him so much it was unreasonable, but in all this time away from him, with them each leading seperate clans, not seeing much of each other at all except brief face time at gatherings had left her believing she was over the tumultuous feelings that boiled over whenever he was near. however, living in close contact? for starclan only knew how long? pyrestar wasn't sure how she could manage it without caving to his stupid fucking charm, or in the least clawing off one of his worthless ears.
She twitched her own ear and breathed in the thick, wet air. She could hear it raining again. "I'm not telling either of you to stay here, obviously." she finally meowed after a moment of gathering her bearings, deep breaths, so on. "so quit nitpicking. you're both just flipping out about how we're all gonna drown, and I fear one of you is gonna make some stupid rash decision because you're scared of the rain. clearly there's not enough prey to supply you all, but I'm just saying we're not all gonna die here if we dont leave in the next three heartbeats, alright? " she regarded havocstar with only a very icy nod as he left her den at last, and she wondered if they had really reached any conclusions. voidstar was, of course, still yattering on, but she was tiring of him, and she was exhausted from her duties. it was easy to ignore him, for some reason, with zephyrclan's leader now gone from their presense. now, however, there was something eerie in the air. nostalgia? perhaps, though their past had never bothered her until now, with this horrible tom still lounging about a very private area of hers- her nest. not that she wanted him in it, of course, but it was still sending chills down her spine- the very idea of it! her lip lifted in an invoulentary silent snarl, topaz gaze narrowed at the other leader, perhaps one of the most prominent figures of her past. he had been much more handsome as a new warrior anyway. now she just wanted him out.
"don't make me claw that smirk off your face," she snapped, and was surprised to find a bit of humor lightening her voice. her features, however, were still formed into a scowl, her posture defensive. voidstar had a dangerous way about him, that she knew. there was something about the similarity of their personalities, the hostility he always displayed, and the velvet way he spoke that caused all reactions at once from pyrestar, and it drove her insane. a small voice told her he was lingering in her den for reasons completely aside politics though, and that made her more cautious to fall into his trap than ever. She ignored his stupid comment and spoke quietly, meeting his vivid emerald gaze, "I've got a secret you'd love to hear." she left it at that though, savoring the feeling. of course, the secret was a whopper- she would hold it over him for years if she could, and release it on his deathbed. she liked to let him know she had something to hang over his head, though, and it was nice to be blunt about such things, though this secret wasn't trivial in the least. rather, it was quite life-changing. that explained the smug grin that swept over her streamlined features.

hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you As he glared at the bobtailed female there were many different feelings stirring within him. For one he was impressed that she had the guts to just step up and decide that she was the leader and went after exactly what she wanted. That type of courage and determination impressed him but he would never make her aware of that since it would just ruin everything. At the same time he was disgusted with her demeanour and how difficult she made discussion during these difficult times. All of the clans were stressed and especially the leaders and he should not have to deal with her sass. He also hated her for allowing that white rat to fight and kill his brother. Fighting was the last thing that the clans should be encouraged to do when in such close proximity to one another and she had just broadcast the message that fighting was acceptable. Fighting was not acceptable during such a disaster and it was his brother. He could only imagine how angry she would be if he allowed one of his warriors to kill her kin, and so he was correct in feeling furious with her. Lastly, there was the history the two cats had. At one point in time they had been able to have fun together and when two powerful forces such as themselves came together there was a spark. However, he was hoping to abuse that spark in such a way that it would land his frenemy in a bit of a difficult situation. Logically it was only fair that since she messed with him then he would mess with her.
”I know I wouldn’t have to make you. You do what you want and if you really wanted to then you would have done it by now.” He purred and hooked his tail. It was very interesting for him to be around an equal of his. Voidstar was so used to being the alpha in charge and having the final say in everything. Even when his clan answered back he would always win. Yet Pyrestar was also used to being in charge and coming out on top, it was almost as if they were squabbling to see who was more powerful. Either way he liked knowing that at any moment he could get under her skin and make her feel uncomfortable. He was still trying to figure out what power she had over him. ”I do apologise for being so bold as to stick around in your den.” He added, it was a polite gesture but somehow he was able to make it seem ominous. His eyes slowly widened when she next spoke and he tilted his head gently to one side, watching her curiously. ”I really don’t see how any secret that you would know could affect me.” He replied smoothly. He thought about it a little but they were in different clans and it wasn’t as though they associated with one another often so it puzzled him that there was something he would care about.

the tom was staring and staring, with malice overflowing in his dangerous brilliant green eyes. he looked so full of hatred and passion and greed and ambition. he probably had a million schemes flying through his mind behind that toxic gaze, ready to strike. he was like a snake which was constantly sneaking through the grass, hiding in plain sight, striking without notice, slipping away unscathed. graceful but disgusting, sly and slimy. she grimaced in his face, knowing he was judging her anyway. she wasn't stupid, she just got ahead of herself. she was reckless, sure, there was no denying that, but no one could ever truthfully accuse pyrestar of stupidity. it was just hard for her to think things through, and instant gratification was her weakness, long-term consequences a thing to be ignored completely until they had to be dealt with. that was simply her demeanor, whether or not those around her liked it- that was hardly an interest of hers. she twitched her nub-tail, a smirk overcoming her broad visage when she imagined someone walking in on them, sitting in silence and glaring at one another. sure they were simply lost in their thoughts, but surely it looked peculiar. cocking her head, pyrestar wondered what voidstar wanted. why was he here, dragging this out? was he lingered about to make a private deal, a bargain? ready to fling something out from their past and use it against her? she shivered with delight. if only he knew.
"how charming of you, to put it that way. I'm so flattered for you to make note of my go-get-em ways voidstar. please, go on." the patched female sneered, digging her long ivory claws into the wood-rot floor of the den, wincing as pine needles stabbed at the tender flesh between her pads, but ignoring the painful sensation nonetheless. she was far more interested in the dangerous tom who sat before her- she knew this interest shone in her eyes, but she didn't care. maybe it would make him reveal what he was doing here. kicking up the past, perhaps? that's what she would like to do, despite her better judgement squeaking its protest. she rarely listened to her common sense anyway.
"don't apologize, you're welcome here." the vertigoclan leader told the ebony tomcat in a sing-song voice, smiling so her fangs showed. "how 'bout instead of a 'sorry' you give me a reason," she offered, the gloom of the small den making the air seem thick and hot- voidstar was only a breath away. this was horrible, and thrilling. her breath caught until he spoke again and she released it in what sounded a bit like a sigh, "don't act like you don't remember what happened a lifetime ago voidstar. or should I say voidstrike? would that remind you? starclan, you couldn't have been more than fourteen moons. fresh outta the apprentice den, me still in it. gosh you're a bad one, aren't you?" she grinned darkly, twitching her whiskers nonchalantly, despite the mystery that hung on each of her words. "my secret would really change your world, I think, but alas. I just thought I'd let you know- let it hang over your head until you can't sleep. somethin' like that."

hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you ”Rather like me actually.” He replied with a cheeky wink but wiped the expression from his face within reasonable time. There was a fine line between being charming and being annoying and Voidstar was well aware of the balance you had to make between the two. ”And I mean you wanted to be leader; you saw the opportunity and seized it when you knew that Lilythorn was too soft to lead the clan. I mean she could have done it but I doubted that I would have taken her seriously which might not have turned out so good for Vertigoclan.” He continued, a tiny smirk upon his maw as he did that was much less obnoxious than the first. ”You wanted the best for your clan and you smugly decided that you would be able to achieve that. However, I have to admit that you weren’t wrong when you thought that.” He added, no longer holding back on trying to make nice with the cat who was normally his enemy. Every now and then he enjoyed acting in unexpected ways, and catching the unsuspecting by surprise.
”A reason? You are surprised that I would want to get cosy in a den with a powerful female.” He teased, flicking her ear with the tip of his tail. ”Think about it Pyrestar, if we worked together we would be unstoppable. So it might be a good idea for us to work out our differences. It was only a little bit of healthy rivalry after all.” He added with a knowing smile. He knew that she enjoyed being recognised for her strength and ambition. She most certainly was not the type of female to sit back and enjoy the ride; she had to control her life and took destiny into her own hands. Although, admittedly he would have liked to have a female who would follow what he said and support him all the way yet that got boring after a while. When he came face to face with Pyrestar it was much more exciting than that. When they argued with one another his pulse sped up since it made him so furious. Then he could ease off a little by tuning into his typical male side, by showering her with compliments. Uncertainly was constantly nagging at him because he would never know what she would do next.
As soon as she began to talk about the past his ears grew warmer and his pupils dilated with interest. ”Of course I remember, I was there honey.” He purred in response able to appear cool on the outside. Inside his thoughts were racing and he couldn’t come up with a straight answer to the female. ”I know I am bad, but you are too so don’t be a hypocrite and admit it.” He retorted with a naughty grin. He knew exactly what they had done but he still didn’t understand what the other feline was getting at. Surely if she had kits then he would have heard about it and she wouldn’t be able to lead her clan. At her attempt to tease him the black tom simply narrowed his eyes. ”I still have to disagree with you on that, but don’t worry I will make sure that you lose just as much sleep as me.”
ooc// uhh it's a bit all over the place this one.

a frown graced her tri-colored features, dulling her peircing golden eyes into hazel- clouded by an untrusting haze as the tom before her began to speak up again. she liked what he was saying, bathing her in compliments and trying to hard to relate to the path she had taken in order to claw her way to the top, tossing her charming grins and winks. but why? the female was no idiot, and this sort of behavior was unfounded from an enemy like him. voidstar- the tom of her past, the rival of her present. perhaps, though, perhaps his intentions were honest. an alliance, maybe? pyrestar mulled this over a bit, and knew she could accept this willingly, but tempestclan's leader was a slimy fiend, and she had a hard time believing his compliments could ever be genuine, despite the past they had.
"you're right, I have done well by vertigoclan as lilythorn never could have. I would have liked to do more, but there is only so much a new, somewhat untrusted leader can do within a clan of old traditons like vertigoclan. otherwise," she added with a private grin, "I'd've taken out celestialclan by now. they're asking for it- the weakest clan. clearly I could have," she mused, "apparently hallowstar wouldn't have put up much of a fight." the calico shook her head and glared, wondering what she was doing spilling her ambitions to him. it wasn't as though she asked but somehow she was relating to him, just as he had planned. after all, she was sure he felt similarly about his neighbors to the north, prissy and isolated. their territory was rough, though unfamiliar, but any leader would be happy to call in their hunting grounds. she snorted at this thought, remembering the conclusion she and the other two leaders had come to and remembering also that celestialclan's formerly lush land was no longer of use all waterlogged. "hmph." she muttered.
you are surprised that I would want to get cosy in a den with a powerful female. pyrestar flicked her ear, surprised by the suggestive nature of this comment- she didn't think voidstar would play that game anymore, and she shot him a half-grin, eyes igniting at once. he was joking, of course, but after their earlier bickering she didn't think it was possible. her suspicions jumped up once more, and she narrowed her eyes, but her guard was slowly slipping under the pressure of his brilliant green gaze. "you are looking rather fit these days voidstar," she chuckled, grinning as he touched her ear with her tail. "I agree." she meowed, without much thinking, but knowing at once that, for one thing, she was caught in his trap and second, that she wasn't sure she really minded anyway. "havocstar doesn't threaten me. he claims to be wise and peaceful, and that suits my ambitions. you, however," she playfully jabbed a paw into his chest, "you like to keep me on my toes. I would prefer an alliance to a rivalry with the likes of you." it was flattery, of a sort, and she averted her gaze from his, peering out of her den instead. were they truly in privacy here? for some reason, she was concerned with someone walking in on this meeting. it wasn't forbidden, though. simply two leaders having a discussion!
"oh good, I just thought I'd refresh your memory, honey. you know what happens when cats er- click like we did, back in the day, and if I give you a bigger hint than that I think I'd ruin all the mystery in one fell swoop. figure it out, genious." she snapped, her tone almost venomous as she recalled the pain, the loss, the cunning required. the threats made, schemes developed and finally, kits lost. they were here though, she had seen them many times. at gatherings mostly, but now they were blissfully strolling about her own camp, looking as uncomfortable as the rest. she was so proud, though. one of her daughters on the way to becoming a great medicine cat, and the other soon to be a proud mother of a litter pyrestar knew would be strong and beautiful. she felt the pangs of motherly heartbreak and looked away from voidstar, swallowing the burning sensation in her throat. he should know, though. voidstar wasn't a good cat, but he could be if he tried, and she had a feeling he could be the best father if he wanted to. it wasn't so much a matter of secret-keeping or revenge, or any of that. the more she thought on it, the more pyrestar simply wanted the father of her only children, the tragedy of her lifetime, to have the truth in his paws. looking back at him, she was brought to the present with a jolt. ..that you lose just as much sleep as me. was that another suggestive comment, or was she just making these things up now? with the memories rushing back to her, she bit her lower lip and gave him no reply.

”Yes exactly, there must have been some sort of disaster in Celestialclan for both leader and deputy to disappear just like that. Lucky for us there is not a cat with an ambitious personality who has taken over and tried to cause trouble – and lucky for me that my feud with their clan has apparently been forgotten.” He replied, fully aware that in their current state Celestialclan were not fit to lead an attack on anybody now. Admittedly he had considered persuading the clan to join with him but he imagined that Pyrestar would never allow him to gain that advantage over her. ”Yet I think I can hold off on taunting them for a while since they are probably under enough stress right now with nobody to turn to.” He added with a smile. Some cats didn’t get by very well without assurance from a leader. In a clan you would have those who wanted to be the leader and then those who were happy to sit back and feel safe in a clan. The latter needed constant assurance that their clan would be safe in order to be happy, and without a leader then they would surely be sent into a bit of an emotional turmoil.
When his compliments were returned he was rather surprised although he managed to mask it well. It had been easier than he expected for him to turn the tables on their relationship with one another. ”Well I do work hard, got to show my clan the sort of standards I expect from him.” He replied, forcing himself not to crack too much of a smile. After all, he didn’t want anyone to know how much better a little compliment made him feel, or how it helped to inflate his ego. It was a nice break for him from feeling a bit down and he enjoyed exchanging words with a female who acted as though she cared – whether or not she did he would never know. ”Well I must say it will be less exciting when I am not causing trouble for you but I think I can deal with that. I am sure I can find others to argue with to keep me amused, I tend to be good at that.” He replied, dipping his head to show they had an understanding. Although, if she was truly like him then she would always have her suspicions of him. Maybe she was the type to keep her enemies even closer than her friends.
”Of course I know what happens when cats mate.” He replied coolly. In a way he was teasing her a little by saying it out loud which could be just enough to cause Pyrestar to panic a little but he kept his voice low enough that he did not cause the same emotion to stir within himself. ”But looking around I don’t see any cats in your clan who look like us. I mean sure you have some impressive cats in there but not impressive enough to be a combination of us. Although that’s just my opinion, maybe you could shine a bit of light on the situation as you clearly know your clan better than me, I could have missed something.” He continued, mentally giving her a light shove in the correct direction. She was now acting far too suspicious and quiet for all of this to be a lie.

she cocked her head at this, mulling over the idea of something tremendous casting away the ten lives of the two combined heads of celestialclan and she tossed it away as ludicris immediately. that had to be impossible, because it seemed that the cats of the clan were genuinely unaware of any hints of the disappearances of their leader and deputy. how could something so powerful go unnoticed? and yet, it was even more illogical to think that both cats had simply just.. run away. starclan wouldn't give hallowstar his lives if they detected such cowardice and weakness in him. pyrestar herself had never sensed such a demeanor in the pointed beige tom. surely voidstar hadn't either, as she remembered once the tom mentioned it, that tempestclan and celestialclan had had quit the spat not many moons ago. it was justified, from what the calico had heard, with one of voidstar's supposedly best warriors murdering a celestialclan tom in cold blood. celestialclan had every right to retaliate, and evidently voidstar, too, recognized this though he did in such an offhand way. pyrestar shrugged. they would have plenty of time to contemplate celestialclan's situation at a later dat, for at the moment in her small, compact den, all she could focus on was the nearness of her former lover, in a context she hadn't experienced in many long moons.
the vertigoclan leader twitched her small, fluffy stump of a tail while she watched masked emotions play over the tom's swarthy, handsome features. she hadn't thought that in a while, and suddenly she wished he was out, away, gone! he was dangerous, like a poison that was activated by too much eye contact, or something stupid and horrible like that. pyrestar didn't wanna succumb to that dirtbag! but that, she inwardly frowned at herself, that was simply paranoia. voidstar was no longer interested in her. not her looks, or her mind, or anything that she had to offer but power, and she had to remember that so she didn't get ahead of herself here, though it was a bit depressing to remember she was no longer attractive to him, but she obviously had bigger concerns with this tom. they had made the agreement, so surely their business here was finished? well, besides her news. she didn't wanna tell him, she wanted him to know so bad. she was so conflicted! in the end, though, she had dragged it out this long, and there was no way she could cast him out now, without him knowing. still, she wondered if she could get anything from him in return.
her eyes shot upward to meet his when he said that, just as he had wanted she realized with a grimace. the shock factor. well, he was in for a treat then if he was so fond of shock. "yeah, eat your words. vertigoclan is brimmin' with impressive cats. how about another hint? I have connections, voidstar. you're getting warmer though. keeping guessing." her whiskers twitched, "I'll spill the beans when you give me something worth spilling them over." she added, staring evenly into his emerald gaze, wondering if he'd offer anything enticing. either way, of course, she'd tell him eventually, but at the moment she was enjoying toying with him, and enjoying the drawn out time spent in her den in privacy with him. it was strange and nostalgic. it still felt wrong in every way but, she reminded herself again, this meeting was entirely innocent. still, some instict told her that was a lie.
