he'd found himself in their camp, huddled away in one of the damp corners of the cramped clearing. it felt foreign, and thinking back upon his clanmates' escape from their flooded territory only made him feel more uncomfortable. as he laid there, he was wrapped up in himself, his head tucked just under his tail and his dark olive eyes squinting at his surroundings. his almond-shaped eyes flicked toward the fresh-kill pile, a frown forming upon his cream-splashed face as he noted how low it was becoming.
hunting was comforting to him, but with all of the other clans around him, neptunestride was especially nervous beneath the tall pine trees. uncurling himself and rising to a sitting position the tom let out a sigh, his breath somewhat shaky and a bit more ragged than it would have otherwise been. his heart was heavy; he missed his home, but he doubted that they would ever return, and his face fell once more.
drawing himself up into a standing position, he shook his frame lightly, pine needles falling from his mahogany fur as his whiskers twitched slightly. as he pondered upon the idea of seeing if he could find food, it occurred to him that he might get lost. blinking at the thought, his eyes caught on a small black frame nearby, and he recognized the she-cat as ravenpaw. without hesitating, he approached her, his expression remaining neutral as he did so.
"ravenpaw," he began, tail tip twitching as his olive eyes met her yellow ones. "i'm going to try and see if i can manage to find some prey. would you like to come with me? i'd feel more at ease with a clanmate with me, that way we can keep an eye out for each other." neptunestride proposed, a slight smile gracing his features as he looked down at the black she-cat.
ooc: oh! i forgot to mention it, but it's around sunset. maybe ravenpaw gets scared once it gets dark (neptune's afraid of the dark xD) he can try and comfort her and they get lost and have to build a temporary nest out in the territory. it could even start to rain and they'd have to find a hollow tree or a rocky overhang or something for shelter. it might end up being a little romantic since neptune treats she-cats really preciously AND MAYBE SHE COULD GET A CRUSH ON HIM. <3

Really, she really had to be in this area where she was going to go crazy with the amount of cats everywhere she turned? It was horrible, and terrifying and just all out mean. Shuddering, she curled herself into a ball. It almost looked like she was a ball of moss to play with, if only she didn't have black colored fur. Too many cats were everywhere, and this was way beyond her comfort zone. She needed to get away, but that would involve moving, and peering out from her ball of fur. Trying to curl up into herself even further, the young apprentice was doing her best not to completely fall apart. It was almost to the point of being useless.
And then the sound of pawsteps. Didn't cats know to leave her alone? Wasn't that the agreement they had made so she wouldn't go completely insane? Surely all the cats knew by now. Those that didn't really should learn not to do anything like this. Uncurling herself just enough to see who was approaching, Ravenpaw froze. It just had to be a warrior. Her yellow gaze shifted to the approaching cat and she flattened herself to the ground. Why couldn't she be bigger? Well, and braver for that matter. She tried to hold the gaze, but she ended up shifting it to her paws, fear consuming her for quite some time. Blinking her eyes she thought about the request that had been made. "I-I-I-I w-w-would..."
she began, but stopped herself. Now she was acting like a stuttering fool. Taking a deep breath to try and control her words, she thought out what she was going to say carefully. "Okay." There, short sweet and to the point. It was one word, one syllable. It was perfect. And her voice had only quivered slightly. Ravenpaw didn't know exactly how she felt about going with someone elsewhere, but if it got her away from all the other cats and all this chaos, she was willing to go. Plus, Neptunestride seemed like a kind enough tom. He had never shown her anything but kindness. Maybe she could try it. If not, she could just run back here and cower in fear. Yes, that sounded like the best plan ever. She didn't know how well she would do with the hunting aspect, since she was afraid of killing innocent creatures, but she could still try. Ravenpaw also didn't know how she could aid the tom in keeping an eye out. She cowered at the least little sounds, and at the sound of just anything out of the ordinary. She stumbled onto her paws and looked up at the tom, trying her best to look at least a little fierce. Well, there was a first time for everything, and it looked like this wouldn't be her first time in looking fierce. She just looked like a scared little kit. ooc// Ravenpaw will get scared if they step on a leaf. XDD. But yes, comfort is good and cute and -squeal-. And romance is definitely welcomed. She's closer to being a warrior than being a new apprentice, so it could work out. ^^ I think they would actually make a hilarious couple.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

his gaze softenend as he looked upon the young femme, his ears perking as she shakily spoke to him. "hush little one, there's no need to worry." neptunestride murmured quietly, drawing nearer to her before his olive gaze rose to gaze across the crowded clearing. "i do believe the entrance is just over here." he spoke once more, gesturing with his paw toward a somewhat hidden spot in the vertigoclan camp. one after another his pawsteps fell against the damp pine needles below, his breath catching getnly as his soft, waterlogged paw pads were poked incessantly by the forsaken little things. they stuck in small clumps to the underside of his paws and he paused every few tail-lengths to shake one of his paws. frowning, he gazed back at the apprentice. "i miss the moors." he told her before turning back around and sighing as he wandered out into the pine forest.
one thing that he had noticed immediately when they had first taken refuge in vertigoclan was the sounds. the forest, however much rain it got, was always noisy. whether it was crickets chirping all through the night along with the nightingale's soft cries or the robin's great warbling during the day, prey rustled in their nests, bugs buzzed all around them, and, of course, the other cats were always engaged in whispers or quiet murmurs. shaking himself slightly as to rid himself of the memories (he'd grown used to the noise by now), the somali tom turned his neck once more to check on ravenpaw. "careful now, there's rocks and needles nearly everywhere you step, and the rain's made our paws even more vulnerable to them." he instructed before stepping between a pair of trees. "i can't imagine living out the rest of my moons trapped beneath them like this!" he muttered, opening his mouth to scent the air. besides more rain, he caught the scent of stale squirrels. "fox-dung!" he cursed, flicking his tail for ravenpaw to continue after himself as they traveled deeper into the forest.
a flash of fur in the corner of his eye made him jump, gasping as he spotted a water vole. 'how odd. he remarked, shaking his head before lowering into a careful crouch. how different this was compared to chasing after hares! awkwardly he made his way forward, tail swishing carelessly behind him as he drew closer to the rodent. "almost got it..." he hissed between his teeth before it turned to look at him, his own eyes widening as it stared back at him before turning round and taking off. "no!" he cried, pelting after it using his small frame and his large legs to his advantage. he tackled it in an awkward sort of way, catching it between his front two paws and putting it out of its misery with a quick nip to its neck. "gotcha!" he cried, grinning quite exhuberantly to himself before looking for the black and white apprentice accompanying him. "ravenpaw?" he called, brows furrowing. he hadn't lost her, had he?
