Silentsnow:: Speaks:: Thinks:: Dark blue eyes scanned over the clear lake, the wind brushed against her back and caused small ripples in the water. The scent of the more, grass dotted with early spring flowers mixed with the scents near the lake, reeds and water always calmed the young cat. The silver bangle cat was sitting with her tail wrapped around her paws just at the edge of the large lake. She bent her head down a little to look into the clear water. The gray and brown rocks down below looked smooth with only bits of slick algae on them here and there which somehow only added to the beauty of the whole scene. A few minnows swam in circles, nothing that a cat could use for a meal, but they were fun to watch never the less. The wind was still a little cold, but nothing to go and hide from, besides the warmth from the sun in the cloudless sky evened it out creating a nice balance. Spring was her favorite season, everything was just so pretty and since it was just around the corner she seemed to be spending more and more time away from the clan after her duties were over and finished with. Today she had gone on the early morning patrol and then hunted with the afternoon party so she could be out while the sun was still up. The hunting had been pretty good today; no cat came back empty pawed. After all it had been an all around beautiful day; no creature would want to spend it in their hole. She herself had managed to come back with at least three mice, which always made her feel good. Made her feel as if she had really done her part today, her whiskers twitched with pride at her own accomplishment. Sitting up straight again she turned her head back towards camp and wondered if any cat had even noticed her absence. Word count: 326

the day was, frankly, beautiful. the perfect sort of weather, with a cool wind innocently whipping at zephyrclan's tall grass and rustling the sparse leaves of the scrubbery that dotted the rolling green terrain. the sort of breeze that drew its gentle fingers through his short, thick fur and ruffled his whiskers just enough to make him laugh with light-hearted frustration, untangling them with a halfhearted whisk of his paw as he skipped out of camp at a leisurely pace. he was scheduled for guard duty of the camp's entrance but that wasn't until evening fell, and at the present the sun sat high in the cerulean depths of the cloudless sky. plenty of time!
he let out a rough purr and let his skip melt into a smooth run as he trailed a sharp path through the territory, making a b-line for the lake. he thought, perhaps, that on the chance he wouldn't find any company on his way there, that he would practice his skills with fishing. or maybe he'd spy a lone rabbit this afternoon, and give a friendly chase. the tabby tom had already gone hunting that morning, bright and early, and felt no need to slay more hare's than necessary. after all, it was spring and they would be having families soon. while he didn't hold oodles of compassion for his prey, he thought it was wiser to leave them to their business and let their populace grow. thus, fishing it was!
the lake glittered on the horizon, welcoming him in its dusty blue-gray glory and inviting him every closer. when he topped the knolls surrounding its shore, he slowed his pace to a halt and breathed deeply, casting his bright green-yellow gaze over the vast body of water before him-- its delightful turquoise depths inviting. all at once, he spied another feline, and while his plans before involved no company, he was happy to have someone to play with nonetheless. "hi!" he called, unable to recognize the figure from the distance, and loped steadily down the hillside toward them, and the water. oh! it was silentsnow. he purred loudly and dipped his head at the pretty silver female, and curled his tail. "what brings you out on this beautiful day?" he asked, tone friendly and uninvasive as he reached forth to tough her shoulder with his nose in a simple and intimate greeting- one of his favorites, he could only assume she wouldn't mind as he moved away to hunch over the water watchfully.

Silentsnow:: Speaks:: Thinks:: Silentsnow sighed at the calm and peaceful atmosphere. The day really was just perfect, one of the best she had seen since leaf-bare. She was glad the weather was taking a turn for the better, it had seemed for awhile there it couldn’t make up its mind being relatively warm one day to threatening the clan with snow the next. She closed her eyes for a moment to soak up the sun and take in all the scents the area had to offer. She felt the wind continue to brush over her back and with the wind it brought a familiar scent; clan. She opened her eyes only half way giving her a peaceful or perhaps lazy look. Focusing on the scent for a moment she recognized it as Rabbitnose and not a moment later she heard a greeting mew.
“Hi!” She turned her head to see the brown tabby making his way over. She didn’t know Rabbitnose very well, but he always seemed very cheerful and friendly. But then again, really what cat did she know well? She was always so quiet in the clan she didn’t make friends-friends very well, it seemed as if she was friends with everyone since she was friendly and tried her best to get along. But she never got the chance to open up to anyone herself. She got a little lonely sometimes, but she was ok with it for the most part. “Hello, there.” She chimed just hardly loud enough to be heard dipping her head along with his to be friendly. She was never a very social cat but it didn’t mean she had forgotten her manners. Her eyes followed him as he came and greeted her with a nose touch to the shoulder. Her own purr rose up accompanying his as she lifted her thick silver bangle tail and touched the tip of it to his shoulder in her own greeting. Sweeping it back over the grass she curled it back over her paws.
“What brings you out on this beautiful day?” He asked in a happy and friendly tone. She smiled a little and tried her best not to be too shy “O-oh, I just though the weather was pretty…is all…” she answered softly “How about you?” she asked after he had settled himself near the water’s edge like her. His eyes down caste looking into the crystal clear lake. [/div] Word count: 401

he flicked his tail serenely, simply content that the solitary she-cat didn't seem to mind his presense. he assumed she preferred to be alone, since she always seemed to be that way, but he was her clanmate, after all! rabbitnose simply figured he ought to bond with her at some point, as he did with all of the other cats in zephyrclan. tilting his nose skyward after the pallid female returned his greeting (a good sign), the lanky brown tabby yawned his placid happiness and glanced sidelong after her, having glanced into the water to his momentary satisfaction. now that he had a companion, he would have much rather talked with her than stared at the little fish zipping about beneath him. "oooh yes, you're certainly right! it's stunning out here, huh? I love that color." he agreed enthusiastically, bobbing his head and flicking his thin, ringed tail upward to motion at the all-but-cloudless cerulean sky above. "spring has sprung!" the tom added, grinning, "thank starclan for that, huh? I think I'd die if I saw another flake of snow!"
how about you? she managed to ask, looking as though she was struggling to be confortable with him there. not that rabbitnose noticed her wariness, as he was back to stooping over the crystal water of the lake, daring to allow his toes to dip slightly into the still-frigid liquid. he had heard her, though, and contemplated an answer. at last, he managed to chuckle lightly, "well if you promise not to tell on me, I'm avoiding any more chores until my guard duty tonight!" he laughed, completely at ease. rabbitnose was a good warrior, and no one would blame him for taking a day off. "I'm having a bit of a lazy day today, I guess, but I blame the sun! how could anycat wanna do anything productive when it's this warm out? all I wanna do is lay around and bake out here by the lake... hey that rhymed!" the tabby warrior guffawed, easily allowing himself to ramble on whilst mesmorized by the silver flashes of the minnows below him, sharpened by the lazy waves rolling into the shore.

Silentsnow:: Speaks:: Thinks:: "Oooh yes, you're certainly right! It's stunning out here, huh? I love that color." Her blue gaze followed Rabbitnose’s tail as he pointed up wards. She looked at the cloudless sky for a moment before for smiling a little. She looked back down at her clan mate as he added on "spring has sprung! Thank Starclan for that, huh? I think I'd die if I saw another flake of snow!" She smiled a little bigger as her tail curled up in amusement. When she was finally able to ask what he was doing out here as well she couldn’t help but giggle at his answer. Sounded like her, just avoiding anything else so she could enjoy the day. "I'm having a bit of a lazy day today, I guess, but I blame the sun! How could anycat wanna do anything productive when it's this warm out? All I wanna do is lay around and bake out here by the lake... hey that rhymed!" She giggled a little louder ”I agree.” she smiled ”I got all my duties done early today. I took the morning patrol, and then hunted this afternoon. The hunting was excellent today, no animal would want to stay away from a day like this.” She felt like she was rambling on now, but Rabbitnose was surprisingly easy to talk to. She felt her nerves calm more and more with each minute that passed, it was nice and she couldn’t stop a continuing purr from spilling out of her chest. Silentsnow settled herself down tucking her paws her in chest before deciding that wasn’t how she wanted to lay. Wanting to soak the sun in she rolled over onto her side and stretched her limbs out. She nuzzled the warm grass under her cheek and let out a sigh of content her purrs growing in volume “I wonder if we should bring back one or two things so that it doesn’t look like we are out here doing nothing.” She pondered to Rabbitnose, she didn’t want it to look like they were lazy. She watched as his eyes flitted back and forth watching the small silvery fish that swam around the shallow ends of the lake “Do you fish any?” she asked lifting her head a little to look at him.

when he tore his pale gaze away from the frenzy of activity in the shallow water surrounding his toes in order to share a look with his clanmate, rabbitnose was utterly delighted to find an easy grin growing upon her pretty face-- mission accomplished! "hm, it's like the color of your eyes isn't it? you have very nice eyes." he meowed, bobbing his head resolutely. the tom was certainly one to throw compliments every which way, and that habit wasn't about to stop then. he waved his tail languidly, peering about them for a moment while silentsnow spoke, "yeah, I mean as an animal myself I certainly couldn't resist. I can't wait for summer honestly, I live for hunting hares! I mean, I don't mean to brag but I'm really good at it," he laughed cheerfully, as he never minded tooting his own horn. a little narcissism never hurt anyone, did it? he grinned mischieviously at his clanmate and twitched his whiskers, "gotta live up to my name, y'know! hunting rabbits, that's my game!" the tom dipped his head as though agreeing with himself and glowed with happiness when he heard the dappled female's soft purrs, glad he clearly wasn't being much of a bother to her at all.
"hey now! I'm not out here doing nothing!" rabbitnose yelped with mock indignity, a simply offended look coming into his face until he broke into light chuckles, "I'm bonding with clanmates, that's gotta count for something right? making friends is very important to clan living, and I believe that strongly," the tabby purred, his bright eyes glittering mirthfully, "but yeah you're right I guess. I actually came out here to try my paw at some fishing, cause, y'know, it's hard! especially for me cause I'm so used to chasing hares. jabbing at minnows is like the opposite of that," he laughed, shrugging, "now don't you go and tell me you're some fishing pro and show me up, miss!" the warrior grinned playfully, "but by all means teach me any strategies you might know!" rabbitnose edged back up to the water and hunched over it, mesmerized by the glittering fish once more, impressed by their simple beauty in their habitat.
"I'm a little nervous about it," he admitted easily, "I don't even know how to start. they're slippery aren't they?" he certainly hoped silentsnow knew more about the matter than he. still, he would be happy to figure it out with her if neither of them had a clue.

Silentsnow:: Speaks:: Thinks:: Silentsnow rolled back over on her belly and pushed herself back on her paws before walking up to Rabbitnose. She wasn’t a fishing pro herself, mice were her specialty, she was very good at hunting small things through trees. Although Zephryclan territory was mostly made up of wide open spaces she could often be found hunting in the randomly placed evergreens rather than the tall grasses of the moor. ”Small rodents are more my speed.” She explained casually sitting down next her clan mate. "I'm a little nervous about it, I don't even know how to start. They’re slippery aren't they?" He asked. She looked into the water ”Yes. At least, that was what one of the Tempestclan cats told me one time when we were at a gathering. Her name escapes me.” She stared into the water for a little, it was so clear and she remembered another odd fact that might help the two cats try to figure this out together “She also said big fish, the ones big enough to eat anyway, like to hide in murky waters instead of clear water like here.” Her ears twitched a little “But I don’t see how we are suppose to hunt them if we can’t see them.” she commented softly. Turning to Rabbitnose she smiled nervously ” Other than that, I don’t know much other then you have to use your claws.” She said honestly feeling a little useless. She turned her head back to the water and leaned over the shore line, her right paw started to lift but she quickly put it down in favor for her left paw so she didn’t splash her friend. Unsheathing her white claws she became focused ” I think…it’s something like this...” she said quietly, waiting for a larger minnow or a small fish to swim by. Her blue eyes flitted around looking for prey to swim by. When the body of a silver fish caught her eye she watched with complete attention, it wasn’t very big maybe two mouthfuls for a warrior but it was still something. Her tail twitched back and forth on the grass in anticipation. When she felt it was close enough she smacked a paw into the water. The fish had come up out of the water but her claws didn’t hook like the desired effect she had hoped for. The fish landed in the water again and quickly swam off. Silentsnow had managed to make a huge splash but really that was about it. She sighed a little defeated “Well, not exactly what I was hoping for, but I suppose it was a start.” She looked over at Rabbitnose and laughed lightly “your turn.” She smiled. [/div]

the cerulean sky overhead seemed to radiate down and kiss his downy hazel fur, keeping the placid smile stuck to his features as though with glue. how could one ever feel down on a delightful spring day like this? rabbitnose couldn't even fathom, and he was happy that his companion seemed quite in the same spot, as she chatted easily with him despite her obviously softspoken nature. "oh yeah, I could see that. stealthy, I bet," he remarked without a change of expression, instead peering down into the lake alongside of her, "I ended up pretty gangly and stuff so I like to give these ol' legs a stretch, and find some prey while I'm at it! I mean there's a certain thrill in the chase, and even in sneaking up on stuff like mice-" he paused to watch her comment on her fishing strategy and give it a go, ultimately failing but rabbitnose though it was quite the valiant effort anyway, "woo hoo!" he crowed, waving his tail in a celebratory manner, bobbing his head as he pulled away on a completely different tangent than before, "brilliant! you'll be a regular fisher in no time!" he laughed.
"anyway what I was saying is that fishing seems more like a patience thing which, uh, is definitely not my strongest suit," he purred mirthfully, eager to give it a go anyway. he could see where he confusion came from though, knowing that there were naught but tiny silver slits darting around in the sunny shallows, he knew there just had to be something worth eating out there in the depths of the lake, but how they were supposed to get it he hadn't a clue. stooping over the water he squinted into his own shadow, cast into the clear sandy depths, and frowned faintly. "how on earth did you even find one?" he asked, features quizzical, "oh right, that patience thing." rabbitnose chuckled, and curled his tail while he waited, quite impatient indeed.
ah-hah! he spied one that looks adequate, and it seemed to be swimming toward the shade his frame cast into the water. in a sharp movement, the tom thrust his forepaw into the frigid water, claws outstretched, but yelped in surprise when the fish easily slipped out of his grasp, swimming deftly away, unphased. "oh my goodness it's like a ball of slime!" the tabby fell about himself with laughed, muttering, "gross!" between guffaws, rapidly doing his best to wipe his paw in the grass, "eww, how could anyone even grab those things?" he laughed again, shaking his head, "maybe I should just stick to hares after all!"

Silentsnow:: Speaks:: Thinks:: Curling her tail over her paws she smiled at the enthusiasm of her clan mate "Brilliant! You’ll be a regular fisher in no time!” She giggled softly ”We will see. Her silver ears perked as Rabbitnose explained that patience was not his thing and she could defiantly see that. He seemed so bubbly she could hardly picture him sitting still for more than a few minutes. The waiting game was more her thing, she was naturally quiet and stealthy moving hence the first part of her name. She quietly watched him quiet down a little and gaze into the water.
”How on earth did you even find one” his features scrunching into confusion but only a second later he answered him. Her whiskers twitched with amusement while her tail curled a little. She smiled and sat calmly keeping quiet so he could look on for the fish he wanted. She looked over to the nearest clump of ever greens, maybe after this they should hunt. She wouldn’t mind seeing Rabbitnose give it his all chasing down a rabbit. She didn’t rabbit hunt often but she loved to watch. Silentsnow was stealthy and quick in spurts but to chase down a rabbit she almost always failed. So the only time she ever brought a rabbit back was if it was old or she had been able to get close enough to it where the chase was only a few mouse tails in length. Hearing a splash of water and a yelp of what seemed to be either surprise or disgust she was snapped back to the present, her head turning over to see what had happened. "Oh my goodness it's like a ball of slime!"Silentsnow started to laugh loudly at the tabby’s reaction. She hadn’t gotten a good feel of her own fish but perhaps she didn’t want to now. "Eww, how could anyone even grab those things?" he laughed again, shaking his head, "maybe I should just stick to hares after all!" She continued to laugh but calmed down with a sigh and a few more chuckles, tears in her eyes from laughing so hard ”I dunno, but speaking of hares maybe we should go and hunt now.”. Standing she shook her bangle fur out and smiled at him. [/div]
