SILVERTALON Silvertalon, as a rule, rose with the sun. That had always been the massive tom-cat's way, and he stuck with it. Now, as the ball of burning light climbed steadily into the sky, he too stood at his full height, stretching. Faint popping noises came from certain muscles as he pushed and pulled with his body, working out the kinks and stiffness. Silvertalon had become an experienced warrior, but he wouldn't allow anyone to call him a 'senior' of any kind. Certainly, he was getting up there in his moons, for even the lively maine coon could not go unaffected by time. But by no estimates was he close to retiring. He still ran and fought and trained with the best of them, and if he had his way, he would until his dying days. Death, too, he accepted and did not fear in himself. The cream feline had always known that death was part of life; the only thing he worried about was not achieving everything he wanted to before his time came. There was so much left to do, so many more things to experience. Every day was a new day, and each he began with renewed optimism.
From the day of his birth, his blood, both because of his parents and because of his breed, had dictated he would make a fine warrior. And Silvertalon had; he had fought, just as hard as any Vertigoclan warrior, against a myriad of enemies. The trouble was not that he lacked courage, or skill; he simply had far too good of a nature to be blood thirsty. In all reality, the tom was responsible, and loyal as the day was long; but he did not hunger for battle, nor did he wish injury upon his rivals. He would never betray his clan, but he would always seek the more peaceful path when it came to dealing with others.
The day was young, and he gave himself a long washing before exiting the den. In the wild, it was very difficult to keep long, thick fur from getting messy and matted, but he did as best as he could. Leaving behind the mossy nests of the warrior's den, he spotted a familiar young female on a rock nearby. "Good morning, Mallowbreeze!"
Silvertalon called out his greeting in what was a jovial tone, grinning at her. Trotting nearer, he nodded exuberantly. "Fine morning, isn't it? A couple more moons, and I think we shall have newleaf once more." WORD COUNT: 416 TAGGED: Mallowbreeze (Minty) NOTES: A recycled post. Reply when you have time. it just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride Tiny beads of moisture flew in all directions as she stood up, stretching and shaking her pelt out after half an evening of keeping watch. After a busy day she had gone to sleep earlier than most, only to wake up when the moon was at its highest in the sky draping the forest in a blue haze. Stretching her paws was the only way that she was ever going to get more sleep otherwise she would end up disturbing the other warriors and they would not thank her for that. Stepping out into the clearing she had heard a faint snoring coming from the entrance to camp and had gone to try and find out who was sleeping out there only to find the warrior who was supposed to be keeping guard sound asleep. Gently she had roused him with a paw and prompted him to go to his nest and took over to save him from getting a lecture from their new deputy, Flamingarrow. Admittedly she had preferred Lilythorn because her heart was in the right place but at the end of the day it was her heart she followed and not her head which led to her stepping down. She was unsure of the new deputy and although the female had been a part of the clan for quite a while she had a feeling that Pyrestar liked a bit of trouble, as well as cats who did not mind causing it. That was not to say she disliked their new leader and deputy, a little scepticism never did any harm.
Stepping into camp where the ground was not covered in a thin layer of show she wiggled her toes trying to get the feeling back in them and sighed in relief as she could feel the dull pain of the cold fading away. Still shivering she had just padded over to a rock that was bathed in the morning sun to try and groom the warmth back into her pelt when she heard her name being called as she settled on the rock. Turning she saw a familiarly large warrior padding over to her wearing a warm smile on his featured. ”Morning, Silvertalon!” She purred in response as he approached. The sun on her back made her skin tingle pleasantly brightening her mood and bringing the lively sparkle back to her leafy green eyes now that she no longer felt like a piece of fresh kill. ”Hopefully it will, I honestly thought my paws were going to drop off when I tried to move them this morning,” she retorted, laughing at herself. ”Care to join me up here? I bet it’s warmer than it is in the den,” she asked nodding in the direction of the warriors den and glancing that way as a couple of other cats began to rise.

SILVERTALON Most cats would grin in good humor at Mallowbreeze's joke. The tom was already grinning, and he only laughed heartily to hear her remark. Of course he could have been more downcast, he had been hoping to be chosen as deputy after all, but he didn't mind all that much. He was glad to see Jetfang and Lilythorn happy, and the rest of the clan was doing well too, despite the dramatic behaviors of most Vertigoclan cats. It was something he enjoyed witnessing, after all of the trouble everyone had been through. They certainly deserved a little bit of a break. ”Care to join me up here? I bet it’s warmer than it is in the den,” Already sunlight was pouring down upon his unnaturally large frame, warming his cream fur and making him look almost regal, settled there with messy long fur billowing all over. To bake up on that comfortable rock? Even better! "Love to!"
Silvertalon exclaimed, leaping up beside her. The maine coon was glad for the width of the boulder, allowing him room to stretch out his full body, one paw reaching out over the edge after he flopped down on his stomach, gazing at Mallowbreeze out of the corner of an amber eye. "The den was cold this morning," affirmed the warrior, following her gaze as he noted a couple of toms exiting the den. "I'll be glad when it's greenleaf again, and prey will come easily. With how Lilythorn and Jetfang get on, I'm sure we'll have a few kits running around everywhere, getting in our business before too long, hmm?" He chuckled, thinking he wouldn't mind at all to have some more young cats in the clan. Perhaps it would brighten things up. "And how's the prey running for you, Mallowbreeze? I trust Reflectedrain wasn't too disappointed about not being chosen as deputy?" Never one to skirt the issues, Silvertalon always liked to ensure the happiness of all of his clan mates, when he could. it just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride As she watched him jump up beside her she couldn’t help but notice how much he towered over her before flopping down, even then he was still very much larger than her. She knew she was a very average size for a female cat but he was unnaturally large. Thinking about it made her want to laugh a little because the whole idea of being that big was funny to her and could picture the large warrior being clumsy although she wasn’t sure whether or not he fitted the stereotype. She imagined being large could have its advantages but she would never personally know what it was like to be that size. Looking down at her petite paws she smiled knowing she would not have it any other way.
”Mm me too, this cold weather makes it hard to get out of my nest in the morning. And yes, as long as she is happy but it will be strange with her no longer being deputy since I have known her to be for so long and perhaps I will be able to mentor one of them now that I am older.” She replied chirpily. She was fond of the idea of being a mentor since it was in her nature to be caring and look out for others even if her apprentice made it difficult to like them. Thinking of it her litter must have been terribly annoying for all of the older warriors since there were so many of them but her mother must have done a very good job of putting up with them. The thought of having to control five young cats made her shiver a little, it would be so hard to watch them all at once. ”Prey has been a little less than satisfactory; it seems moons since I have had a good meal with the pollution and now leaf bare. I can’t wait for the new season to bring some healthy fresh kill.” She answered with the taste of their fresh juices present in her mouth as she did. At the mention of her brother she took a minute to think for she had never considered that he may have been hoping to become the deputy, but he was still young and would have plenty of opportunity. ”No he won’t be crushed by anything and the last we talked he was more worried about looking for a mate and having his own family if I’m honest, I just hope he gets what he is looking for. What do you think of the new deputy anyway?” She asked curious for the other warriors view. She was very aware he talked to plenty of her clan mates and would be likely to know more than her.

SILVERTALON He had only just woken, but the rock was warm and the company of Mallowbreeze enjoyable. He nearly dozed off, his long, thick fur warming him doubly as he lay comfortably in the sunlight. Silvertalon gave himself a shake at her words, rousing himself; however, he couldn't help but let a yawn escape, fangs gleaming in the unbearably bright light of morning. "How wonderful it would be to have an apprentice again! It feels like ages, though I suppose it hasn't been quite so long."
He envied his cousin for the apprentice he had been given; Silvertalon himself hadn't had an apprentice in quite some time, a feeling he greatly missed, as he always liked to partake in the training of young cats. It was nice, seeing an apprentice grow both mentally and physically over time, soaking in the knowledge he had to give. At one point in his life, he would've even liked to father a litter or two of his own kits. He still would, actually! However, he was one of the older in the clan, in the same age group as their current leader, and had to admit he was likely past his prime. In all of his forty moons he'd never taken a mate, and he couldn't quite place his paw on why. Perhaps he'd been too busy, or simply never found the right cat to settle down with; maybe he'd just been too careful. Still, he'd always felt that he would love to be a father. With age, the fear of accidentally squashing his offspring had greatly dissipated, particularly with the amount of litters he'd seen born and visited in the nursery. Silvertalon nodded, still rather drowsy. "I can't help but feel that when newleaf is here at last, Vertigoclan will have put all of the bad behind them. We certainly had a few seasons of it, though, didn't we! Not to make light of the situation, of course," he rumbled, tone automatically lowering as if in scolding for himself. "But hopefully everyone will be happy, at least for a while." He listened as she described her conversation with her brother, smiling. Silvertalon admired how open and honest the young female seemed. Not so dramatic and guarded, as he knew very well his clan mates could be. He'd heard much the same of Reflectedrain, her brother, but truthfully he'd hardly spoken to the other. Having ambitions for deputy, however, he'd certainly taken notice of all the cats that might be chosen, and the young tom had been one of many. "Flamingarrow. Well, I can see why a leader such as Pyrestar would choose her," Silvertalon began thoughtfully, "as she does have a reputation, of sorts, preceding her. Even so, that's just the past, and I think she has the potential to be a great deputy. I hope that she'll work well with Pyrestar, and that there won't be any hard feelings; Lilythorn and she are close friends, after all." He shrugged, feeling like he was rambling, and flashed her an apologetic grin. it just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride Gradually her eyes began to close slightly with a green slit visible among her fur to block out the bright light that was blinding her. As much as she enjoyed it her delicate orbs could not withstand the strength of it causing her to shield them which was a shame because everything looked that bit more beautiful when bathed in the sun’s rays. She could almost understand how the plants needed it to grow, because she certainly felt livelier in the warmer weather, no more stiff limbs holding her back and sending pain shooting down her spine. Leaf bare looked beautiful in a different way, but it was bad for all living creatures and she resented the empty belly and more bitter moods it brought to her. Her thoughts were interrupted by the large tom shifting his weight around. ”How can you be expected to get up early to train an apprentice when you have just woken up and you are already tired!” She teased lightly with a small smirk upon her maw. She knew that he wasn’t lazy really, but it was hard to resist poking fun at him when he was rolling around on a rock and yawning. Yet she could understand why he was since she was in a similar position, enjoying the comfort.
Nodding in agreement the female half smiled. ”After a while it beings to feel as though we deserve some good news, and hopefully Starclan will recognise that and help us out a little, they understand how hard leaf bare can be anyway.” She replied, putting some faith in her ancestors with her mother still strong in her memory. If only she had been a medicine cat she could talk to her, but such a life was not one she had aspirations for and would happily leave all of that to Arcticlight very gladly. She imagined that a live dedicated to her warrior ancestors would get too lonely due to lack of living company to put it simply. The feeling of a warm, soft pelt pressed against hers in the warriors den would be one she would choose over the cold starry ancestors. ”I’m not really sure, she has been in the clan for a long time and has always been loyal I just hope both she and Pyrestar don’t anger the other clans unnecessarily considering their similar feisty personalities, but I should think they would not as noble warriors for our clan.” She replied, feeling a little uneasy about them but could not will herself to make a bad comment about either of them. It was hard for her to say anything bad about anyone although often others would see this as a bad thing as she could be seen as too kind, and she had a feeling a cat like Pyrestar would notice that as a bad thing.

SILVERTALON He was relaxing more and more, urged to do so by the warmth of the sun's rays. ”How can you be expected to get up early to train an apprentice when you have just woken up and you are already tired!” With her comment, Silvertalon's golden eyes snapped open. "I'm not tired,"
he growled warmly, blinking himself awake and sitting up. "Just resting my eyes, really!" With that he rolled the mentioned orbs, flicking his tail and giving it a shake, tightening his shoulder muscles in a stretch that appeared motionless. The conversation was light but the topic had an opportunity to darken, so he simply leaped down from the rock in a less than fluid motion, and eyed her with a grin. "A hunt, perhaps, if I can drag you away from your admirers and this fantastic sun bath?" His suggestion was as polite as ever, though tinged with amusement. Today was the perfect day to get out of camp, and besides, he'd felt her unease in the present conversation, so this was a perfect way to change the topics up a bit. Moreover, Silvertalon was just itching to fall asleep in the sun, and he didn't want to snooze the day away like an elder, without getting anything done. The idea was preposterous! it just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride A sarcastic voice in her head told her that the tom was obviously lying but she shook the voice from her head and moved into a sitting position. Lifting her paw she repeatedly ran her tongue over it in order to make it damp before lifting it over her head and washing the dried skin from the corners of her eyes. Noticing that the conversation had begun to die out a little she took this opportunity to cleanse her other eye before attempting to revive the conversation. At the same moment she opened her maw to speak the large tom leaped past her and she watched for a moment in awe, surprised how something that large could move before realising she was staring and shut her maw with a snap.
”Yes that would be a good idea.” She replied, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm despite the fact they were a little pink around the border from lack of sleep. Not wanting to say no to such a polite offer she took to her paws and neatly leaped down from the rock. ”Although it is a challenge for me to drag myself away from this rock so we better catch something good otherwise you owe me.” She replied with a tiny smile that could only suggest innocence when worn upon her features. ”And don’t chase all of the prey away with those great paws of yours.” She added teasingly and prodded him gently on the shoulder with a paw, afterwards doubting that he had even felt it through all of that fur and muscle.

SILVERTALON Silvertalon noticed her stare, but shrugged it off. Plenty of cats, particularly out of clanners, had been caught staring before. He remembered in particular a battle with Zephyrclan as a young warrior. He'd charged for the first cat he saw, a youth his age, give or take a few moons. The warrior had rounded on him, and he remembered precisely its terrified stare, as if just witnessing the massive Vertigoclan warriors of much gossip. At that moment he'd considered the possible unfairness of the match, as it was dawning on him this was probably nothing more than an apprentice. Regardless of whether it had been a good fight to pick or not, he didn't have to worry, because the cat turned and raced off, yowling, before he'd laid a claw on it. Silvertalon had been a little hurt at the time, to have been regarded as such a monster, but with experience he'd learned that his massive size was an advantage to him. Rather than being injured or injuring others in fights, he could simply frighten them away by feigning blood thirst. It didn't work every time, as he'd certainly been in a few nasty scraps, and been bested as well, either by warriors more crafty than himself or double teams. The fact was that he wasn't extremely clever when it came to battle maneuvers, nor was he particularly graceful. Thus, if a group of apprentices were to tackle him all at once, Silvertalon would likely not know what to do in order to get the pack off. The one time it had happened he'd went with simply jumping around crazily, rolling on his back and basically acting as though his pelt were on fire. It wasn't an experience he was hasty to repeat.
So, all things considered, he'd gotten 'the look' many times before. It didn't bother him really, when Mallowbreeze stared, and after she realized she was at it, she quickly stopped anyway, which he deemed the polite thing to do. ”Yes that would be a good idea.” Silvertalon smiled genially, meeting her eyes as she jumped from the rock and admiring her grace in doing so. ”Although it is a challenge for me to drag myself away from this rock so we better catch something good otherwise you owe me.” "Right!"
He agreed, inwardly determined that they would catch something, if he had to die trying. Not that that was too likely. "I'll try not to." The maine coon gave his shoulder a fast lick. "Sometimes I think my paws have a mind of their own, though!" At her prod he moved forward, still drowsy but feeling energetic, initiating the journey away from the rock and into the shady forest. it just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride Satisfied that her prod had got him on the move despite her previous doubts she padded after him. Her steps were quick and dainty and about three of her steps made up one of the larger toms. However, she imagined it would be more effort to carry that size and so she settled upon the resolution that it was even. Her small size made her swift and energetic, and his large size made him slow but strong. It was hard to stop her mind from thinking of what it would be like to be that size, she wouldn’t want to scare anybody away but she could never imagine Silvertalon as scary, he was more of a large gentle creature. Although, she would not like to meet him when he was wearing his battle face and if he was an opponent of hers she would simply slide through his legs nip at them before dashing off.
Even though the female had only had half a night of sleep she began to feel more energetic than ever. Prancing ahead she began to sniff at the ground and rub up against shrubs to check for all of the new buds coming through. Glancing behind her quickly at the tom she flicked up a bit of newly grown moss and caught it in her mouth. Turning swiftly she tossed it at the cream coloured feline and smirked. ”New leaf is certainly here.” She noted in a chirpy tone of voice.
Admittedly it was nice to have some cover back in the forest, she hated it when the trees were mere skeletons and you could spot a cat easily among them. She felt a lot safer being able to hide among the shrubs and ferns just in case there were any enemies lurking close by. When she had the advantage of surprise she always felt more at ease and from there she could prance around and confuse them. At least she wasn’t out on her own so if the two came across anything it would probably run a mile when it saw her body guard over there. Well, she could look after herself but she liked to think she would be a bit safer with some help around. ”So where do you suggest thunderpaws?”

SILVERTALON As the moss came flying at him, his saffron gaze caught on it with a playful glint. A massive paw flashed up and batted it away gently, albeit rather gracelessly. "Hey, watch it! That's prime nest material right there!" He bent his head to sniff the moss, enjoying the fresh, rainwater scent. Silvertalon unsheathed his claws and tilted his paw so that just one of the sharp appendages pulled the green apart, and he studied the new growth with curiosity for a moment. How he loved Newleaf. The kits, the mates, the warmth, the sun. The foliage popping up everywhere especially. One day everything was cold and colorless and the next you were noticing patches and patches of low growing yellow flowers, seemingly having grown right up out of the ground overnight. And it did seem that way, as though the plants had only been sleeping under the earth, and the rising temperatures had just succeeded in waking them up. ”So where do you suggest thunderpaws?” He caught her gaze with a grin and tilted his nose in the air. The warrior mewed pompously, "That's Silvertalon to you, youngling. I'm glad you're asking for my wise, wise opinion." He winked at her. "I fancy a snake or two, don't you?" Without waiting for an answer, the maine coon declared, "Yes, I thought so! Follow me!" He knew he would be quickly overtaken, so he took the advantage and raced off. Clearing a fallen log with a powerful jump, he continued through the forest, waiting for it to clear away to reveal the rockslide. As an afterthought, he called back to her, "You're not afraid of snakes, are you?" WORD COUNT: 278 TAGGED: Mallowbreeze (Minty) [/div] TEMPLATE BY KATIEBABY! it just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride ”Oh I’m sorry, clearly the apprentices are incapable of picking up the moss now that it’s been moved a foxlength,” Mallowbreeze teased with a sweet grin resting upon her maw. As he stopped to tear the moss to pieces, most definitely making it unfit for bedding; she padded past him scenting the air around her as she did. Unfortunately she could not scent any prey and any scents that hung on the air belonged either to the two cats or the plants that were growing around them. Scraping up some dirt with a paw a tiny green shoot was revealed that would one day turn into a tree to replace the older ones that had been damaged. With a smile she moved on and picked up her pace a little.
Tan coloured ears twitched as she listened to Silvertalon making his decision, and altering her path a little she followed him. ”I’m sure you areterribly wise,” The female replied a little softly, but overall liking the emphasis she put on ‘terribly’. When she thought of being wise she immediately pictured the clan elders, moons of experience hanging over them. Then maybe after that she would consider the medicine cat, Arcticlight, and her extensive knowledge of the plants in the forest. The infamous wise bird of the forest, the owl, would then pop into her head as an image of a pair of all-seeing eyes glowing in the darkness. Possibly after that she would think of the senior warriors, but wise wasn’t the first word that came into her head when she thought of them, perhaps experienced. Silvertalon wasn’t even that old, he was barely a senior warrior and he was just getting used to rubbing it in. ”I think you will find the snakes are scared of me, they would run a mile if I wasn’t so soft on these paws.” She replied, dancing past him with swift, dainty steps. ”Unless your intention was to hide your fear of them and you have changed your mind?” She taunted with a small glitter in her eyes.

SILVERTALON Silvertalon snorted at her comment. "It won't be as soft for old cats like me if you kick it around,"
he reprimanded. That was all they spoke of before it became quite a mad chase, him trying to keep up with her as she swiftly overtook him. "It's really not fair, you know," he hissed breathlessly behind her, "that you can run faster than me!" The cream furred maine coon actually grinned at her taunting, pleased to see a slightly rougher side to the young warrior. "Yeah, I'm terrified of snakes!" Silvertalon yowled, putting on a burst of speed to once again take the lead. In his brief success, he nearly didn't see the rockslide up ahead through the dense pines. When he did in fact note their increasing closeness, he did a doubletake and was lucky not to smash headfirst into a tree, barely stopping in time. Feeling like quite the dunce, he turned to glance, embarrassed, at Mallowbreeze. "Err, I mean to do that. Anyway, um, here we are!" Sides heaving, he picked himself up and continued gingerly into the open clearing, feeling a bit exposed. He walked a while before coming to a stop beside a tall boulder, one that looked suspect. Another good thing about it was that he felt a bit more protected, pressing against its cool side. "Grand, isn't it?" He crouched down, reducing the size of his bulk a bit. Silvertalon wasn't an expert on hunting snakes, but moons of experience had led him to realize that on a warm day like this, hunting around in the shadows wasn't necessary. Snakes could be found out sunbathing just like cats, laying in the rays or slithering around looking for prey. The real trick was in finding them, camouflaged as they were. He trained his amber eyes on a spot a few fox lengths away, trying to decide whether he had seen movement there.
