She'd been asleep when it happened. Her body had roused her mind, her icy blue eyes flicking open, her fur standing on end as if she was covered in chills. Goose flesh came across her skin and she shuddered slightly, her eyes growing wet with the tears of a bright new kind of happiness as Lilythorn felt new life stir within her. With a grin gracing her creamy ginger maw, she had snuggled closer to Jetfang's tuxedo form, sniffling a bit, before drifting back to sleep, letting dreams of kits and the lovely spring days that were to come, followed by warm summers, chilly autumn winds, and then the familiar harshness of winter. She slept easier now that she was simply a warrior and when she was close to Jetfang, matching her breathing to his, keeping close to each other in the den, Lilythorn truly had never been happier.
When she awoke that morning, her eyes cloudy with slumber, she yawned quietly, blinking quickly as she stretched her pretty bodice, letting each tendon pull on their muscles as the creamy ginger she-cat let herself become fully awake. A smile gracing her maw, she looked down at where the nest she and Jetfang shared sat in the warrior's den, silently thinking to herself that it would be nice to move out of the den and begin sleeping under the stars soon, for, with her medium-length fur and her body pressed against his, she grew far too warm once the nights started to grow hot. Putting this detail in the back of her mind for now, the female padded out of the den, heading for the medicine cat's den to confirm the thoughts that were foremost in her mind.
- - -
It was true. Her mind raced just as her heart did, beating away inside her chest with excitement. Her joy couldn't simply be contained anymore; the emotion simply radiated from her as her eyes glistened brightly with emotional light, her smile showcasing all of her pretty features as she caught sight of her mate's tuxedo pelt beneath the fir tree shade in the corner of camp. Stopping by the fresh-kill pile first, Lilythorn fetched a plump squirrel out of the pile before stepping quickly to where Jetfang sat, his mismatched gaze watching her as she seemed to dance across camp. Setting the piece of prey down before him, she sat down next to him neatly, looking at him lovingly, before nuzzling him.
"I thought we might share. Is that alright?" She asked, pulling away from him, but retaining her smile, her white ivories flashing as she shyly looked away from him, eyeing the other cats as they went about their business in camp. She caught sight of Flamingarrow approaching a small group of cats, moving her mouth as she spoke, nodding slightly but keeping a smile upon her face. Still watching the other ginger female as she spoke, Lilythorn felt pride surge within her. "I'm so proud of her. She's going to do a great job, isn't she?" Lilythorn commented, gesturing with her head toward the young female, glancing at Jetfang before tucking in to the piece of prey, taking a small bite before pushing it his way.

"That's when I told her I love you girl, but I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have."
When he woke, his black fur was cool, and Lilythorn wasn't by his side. It was a familiar feeling, so he didn't think much of it until he'd sat up, stretched, and collected his thoughts. Lilythorn. My mate. It was still taking a little getting used to, the idea itself, but the pattern they'd fallen into had happened easily enough. It wasn't a dull one, but a comforting one. A set of happenings. Sharing a nest, and sharing what time they could, as warriors. After the long, hard moons before this, it felt like a dream, just each other's company. They both had so much spare time now, to make up for all of the lost moments.
Wondering just where his mate had gotten off to so early, Jetfang yawned and moved quietly out into the clearing, brushing against the fallen pine in his tiredness. He glanced at the fresh kill pile, but decided to forego it for now in case Lilythorn turned up. Besides, he fancied a hunt, and the pile was a little low. Best to leave what there was for others, if he was eating by his lonesome. These, and other rational thoughts, vanished from his mind as his eyes fell upon Lilythorn, exiting Arcticlight's den and heading his way. Damn. Blinking as she came his way, he managed to consider her previous location. She looked far too happy to be injured. His thoughts whirled slightly, revolving around the image he was viewing. No longer having to pretend not to be completely in love.
The scent of fresh kill barley fazed him as Lilythorn sat next to him and he immediately pressed against her side, a low purr in his throat. As she pulled away from him, he felt slightly regretful of the action, but smiled anyway. "Better than alright," the tom said, bi-colored eyes gleaming. Jetfang simply nodded in agreement, he had finally sorted out his thoughts. Maybe... Just as he was about to say something, Lilythorn nudged the squirrel his way, and he took a small bite, no longer hungry, chewing it thoughtfully. He then looked at her, flicking an ear toward the healer's pine den. "Lily, what were you doing there...? Did you get a thorn in your paw?" He motioned as though to lift her paw, pressing it lightly with his lowered skull. "You're alright, aren't you?" He hardly dared to hope that the odds had been in their favor. He cushioned himself for her response, looking away toward Flamingarrow again and remembering what the fiery pelted warrior had told him that night in the trees. It can't be, it's probably nothing. Just paying the medicine cat a visit. She was deputy, they're probably close friends, and she wanted to have a look to make sure Arcticlight was doing well on her own.

She pretended to not understand what he meant, focusing on a bit of the prey's blood that had gotten on her left paw. As she pulled her paw close to her maw and began to clean her fur with her pink, sandpaper tongue, she paused mid-lick, looking at him confusedly. "Huhnn?" Before resuming her small bit of grooming and placing her paw back down on the ground, glancing at the squirrel before looking her mate straight in his multi-colored eyes. Surprised at how concerned he was over a simple visit to the medicine cat, she gave him an odd look, frowning slightly but allowing a light-hearted chuckle to escape. "Jetfang, I'm fine. Don't worry so much." Lilythorn told him with a smile, lightly butting him in the side with her head before returning to her meal, tucking in to the rest of her portion of the prey, licking her lips slightly before neatening up a bit.
A yawn caught itself in her jaws, and she quickly blinked away the tears. "I'd like to get out under the trees in this weather, wouldn't you? Perhaps even going so far as to looking out over lake." She added the last sentence, letting her thoughts become the spoken word. Smiling brightly at the tuxedo the former deputy called her mate, she couldn't help but notice how uneasy he seemed to be acting. Giving him another odd look, she shook her head, her slightly longer fur fluffing out a bit as she did so. "I swear, you're so tense, you'd think you just saw a ghost, Jet!" She remarked before standing up, pausing as she noticed his food remained untouched. "The squirrel tasted fine to me. Honestly, is something wrong? You're starting to give me a fright!" Lilythorn cried, eyeing him with major concern, unable to shake it.
Frowning at him for a moment, she gestured once more with her head, but this time toward the entrance to camp, encouraging him with a grin, her eyes locked onto his lovingly. She didn't want to tell him in camp, she wanted them to be alone. This was a new feeling for her, an entire new experience indeed. Last time she'd been..pregnant..hadn't been, well, on purpose. Thrusting those dark thoughts and memories back into the deepest, darkest corners of her mind, Lilythorn felt the cheer of a new life and the new season all around her, letting her heart float on as if she were flying, with Jetfang near her and their minds free and clear, she could do anything so long as he was by her side.

What was it with her? Jetfang flicked his ears in irritation and confusion. Lilythorn was acting like she had no idea what was going on, and she was normally so good at reading him. Irrationally, he felt a wave of disappointment, but shrugged it off. He had never really thought that they would have kits; they'd talked about it a little before, but he supposed that these matters were up to Starclan when it came down to it. Maybe it was better that way. They could both be pretty unstable on their worst days. Like now, when he felt as though he was going crazy, with how she brushed off his concerns. After she had finished her half of the squirrel, he grimaced at the remains, feeling something in the pit of his stomach. There was nothing cold or bitter in his voice, however, only softness, when Jetfang meowed, "I'm not too hungry. You can have the rest, if you want?" His mismatched eyes acquired a bit of a glazed look, and he began to absentmindedly wash his paws, though he'd only eaten a bite of prey. "Yeah... The lake, the lake would be nice. It can be really beautiful in newleaf..." he agreed, not really thinking about what he was saying, though saying it with enthusiasm anyway. "I swear, you're so tense, you'd think you just saw a ghost, Jet!" Shaking it off, Jetfang stood and grinned. "Uh, yeah. I see them all the time, you know. There goes one now..." He gazed off at nothing in particular, but stopped when he noted the concern in her voice.
"I'm sincerely fine, beautiful. Let's go see the lake, then." Silvertalon was awake now, and he nodded to his kin. He hadn't finished the squirrel, but it was alright. Jetfang drug what was left of it over to the maine coon, making no remarks in his odd state before turning to follow Lilythorn into the forest. He heard the cream warrior's rough laughter behind him, and what sounded like the words "lovesick" and "fool." Jetfang didn't hear much though, once they were out in Vertigoclan territory. It was always nice, becoming part of the forest this way, hearing birdsong and soft gales of wind. A smile fell easily on his features despite the discontent he had felt earlier, and as he padded into the shady depths of the pines, his pelt brushed hers. "Looks like a nice day for hunting. I should take Kindlepaw out later," the tuxedo tom thought aloud, "or else he'll go looking for trouble on his own." He had to keep reminding himself to keep up with his apprentice. True, he wanted to spend as much time as possible with Lilythorn, but he couldn't forget his own duties. Jetfang wished that Pyrestar would give his mate an apprentice; perhaps then they could train together.

As they left camp and began strolling through the pine forest, the former deputy began to really enjoy herself, each step she took was another made on one of the best days of her life. Remaining quiet, she possessed a bit of thoughtfulness she usually didn't have, her mind lost in dreams of kits and playtime. Purring a bit as Jetfang called her beautiful, she leaned into him as they walked on toward the cliffs, shutting her blue eyes for a moment and simply enjoying what if felt like to be able to press against his warm, ivory and black fur.
Pulling away as they neared the rocky crevice that overlooked the lake and almost the entirety of ZephyrClan territory, she smiled, her eyes dancing as she looked lovingly to her mate who stood close nearby. "Yes, the prey would certainly be out wandering much like we are." Lilythorn admitted, sending a nod in his direction.
As her own blue eyes met his one blue and one amber eye, her heart skipped forward, seeming to leave her behind in this perfect moment, and she stepped forward, closer to her mate. "Jet, I lied about the medicine cat's den. I had a reason to be visiting with Arcticlight. I..I'm going to have your kits." She announced, her heart soaring as she closed the distance between them, nuzzling him closely, purring, her tail wrapping around her side, pulling itself closer to her own slight, yet growing, bodice. "This is the best news I have ever delivered, in all my moons." She breathed into his musky fur that smelled of pine, too. With him, Lilythorn was finally at ease. She had finally, after so many moons of being lost and confused, found her home, and it was with him.

"That's when I told her I love you girl, but I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have."
He was content with silence. And yet he wanted to fill it with thoughts shared and ideas illuminated. Always, Jetfang felt like there wasn't enough time. He had to make every single second count for something. But what to say? How to voice the emotions that were a tangled mess within him? How could he even try to describe with ugly, plain words, the beauty of everything around him? It was impossible. This was why he was silent. But not uncomfortably so.
Their paws carried them swiftly, though he still noted the passage of time, taking in the trees as they moved slowly past. I remember a time when we were prey ourselves, Lily... Jetfang thought, but did not say. He would do anything to keep the shine of sadness from returning to Lilythorn's eyes. Jetfang couldn't bear to bring up the past, or remind her of the deaths, and the sickness, and the wolf. Nor could he afford to dwell on them. After all, every second counted. And he didn't have to fake happiness for her; even without conversation, this was bliss.
Swift sheets of water, convening together with a crash, creating a tide, a shining expanse of waves. When they reached the lakeside, by silent but mutual consent they came to a halt, Jetfang a pawstep or two ahead. He was pleased that the she-cat stepped forward to close the gap, was about to suggest they go down along the rocky shore, but noted the look in her eyes, as though she had something to say. Something... important? He closed his jaws.
"Jet, I lied about the medicine cat's den. I had a reason to be visiting with Arcticlight. I..I'm going to have your kits." Disbelief shone on his face. Joy pierced his stomach. Fear made him speechless. Now it wasn't that he had nothing to say; it was that all of the words clustered together, tight and impossible. But Lilythorn was purring and she was happy, happier than he'd ever seen her before, he thought. What other option was there? How could Jetfang hold back when his mate was so clearly pleased, her feelings unmixed? "Oh, Lilythorn..." An involuntary purr rumbled loudly in his chest, though a misty state came over him, gaze distant. Kits... A front fang brushed at a wound on his tongue. Jetfang blurted suddenly, "What if I squash them!?"
Paws spread out before him, he bent his head and butted it against forelegs, ears pinned, gave himself a shake. Back to reality. No, this was reality. Starclan, he was a moron. What if I squash them? What if? But it was a real concern. Might he become clumsy around their newborn kits? Jetfang stared wildly at her stomach, trying to decide if it was already growing larger, as though his mate might become engorged before his very gaze. What if he hurt her? Geez, what if she lost them? How could they go on? He scuffled his paws at the ground anxiously. But... kits. Wow. Of course he had known, somewhere, in the corner of his mind. But now it was confirmed, real and not just a daydream.
Thinking he had been foolish, the black tom-cat moved forward and licked her ear, bending his neck toward Lilythorn. "I pr-promise I'll be the best father that I can. Better than any Vertigoclan dad before. And you... will be the most perfect mother." He breathed the thought coursing through his mind at this very instant, still, over and over. "Kits... Our kits. We'll be a family. Together." A lopsided grin appeared, one that he imagined must look very stupid indeed. He was a little worried, still. A little nervous.

Her laughter, her emotions, her happiness, her joy; it burst from her like it never had before, her face squinched up as she laughed hard at his reaction. "Jet!" Lilythorn gasped, choking on the rest of her words, nearly falling down, near exhausted from the sheer effort it required to remain standing upright next to him. "Jet! You won't..squash them..! I won't..let..you!" She replied, butting him with her head, shaking with the last tremors of her guffaws, her entire body trembling as she continued to regain poseur.
Pulling away from his black and white dappled coat, her blue eyes glittered upon her pretty face as she gazed into his mismatched eyes, her heart soaring. "Jet, you don't have to promise me anything; I know you're going to be an amazing father." She told him, shaking her head slightly as a grin spread across her face, her ivories flashing brightly at him, her large grin fading into a shy smile as he complimented her, saying that she would be the best mother. A frown faltered across her face for a minute before the humble expression returned. "I..I really haven't gotten to be one before. So.. thank you, Jet." She meowed meekly, looking down at her paws shyly before stepping closer to him once more.
Lilythorn pressed into him, purring, her love for him and everything they had become pulsing through her as her heartbeat raced through her veins. Thump, thump, th-thump, thump. Embracing his scent, his laugther, his smiles, everything about him, she smiled again. "Together." She affirmed, giggling a bit before growing solemn once more, a whisper escaping her maw without a second thought.
"Forever."

"That's when I told her I love you girl, but I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have."
She was... laughing. Laughing at him? Jetfang flattened his ears, but he still smiled, mismatched eyes narrowed. "Well- well, that's what I promise anyway," he spluttered, shaking himself as he watched Lilythorn trying to regain her stance. A whistle of air escaped his nose in a sigh, as he lay his head on her shoulder lightly. He could only have nodded in response to her words, because again he was overwhelmed and felt that speaking was too inarticulate. "Nothing will ever separate us again," Jetfang tried finally, when he faced her again, a noselength away. Forever seemed like a long time, and he hoped he wouldn't let her down again. He couldn't bear to. Please, Starclan, let these kits be strong and healthy. To lose any of them would be agony for Lilythorn. So, of course, for the next few moons he would be the most annoying nuisance ever on the face of the planet. "How far along did Arcticlight say you were?" Jetfang just realized that they had walked clear to the lake shore, and she was pregnant, and surely that was hard? "Should we go back now? Do you want me to catch something? Do you need rest?" He jabbered, willing everything he knew about pregnant queens to come to his mind in that instant. "You're tired, aren't you? Stay right here and I'll catch us something. Please!"

She was surprised by his concern, how intense it seemed to be almost instantly. "Jet, calm down, I'm fine, okay?" She meowed, chuckling at him and shaking her creamy ginger head before speaking once more. "Not very long, so quit your worrying; I'm not going to start giving birth right here, right now!" Lilythorn joked, but knew it wasn't anything to be kidding around about. She'd lost kits before and all Lilythorn wanted now was to start a family with Jetfang and watch them grow up as life took them through twists and tumbles with fate. With a laugh, Lilythorn shook her head once more, grinning at her mate. "You're wearing me out if anything, Jet! Let's head back to camp. Shall we?" The former deputy asked him, her blue eyes meeting his blue and amber ones.
ooc: finished. <3
