SECRETPAW songs of desperation i played them for you ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
The apprentice den was slowly vacated as the young cats eventually stirred and awakened, leaving as the sun's light grew stronger outside. Secretpaw lay awake for a while in her little nest with others still dozing around her, her golden orbs blinking unseeingly upwards in the dim light of the den. Secretpaw had never really understood what her family ties were until she really thought about it. If Blackshard was her father and Voidstar was his brother, then Voidstar was her uncle. But she was still not really a clan-cat. Since her mother was a rogue, as was Blackshard before he joined, she believed the rest of the clan viewed her as having rogue blood. That held no relevance really to her place in the clan, though, but it seemed that there were a good few cats that saw her blood as 'tainted' because of her parent. She thought it ridiculous. Why should their opinions on her be based on her parents? She might not be anything like them, for all they knew.
She mulled over her apprenticeship. Secretpaw sighed silently. Blackshard was not only her father, but her mentor. Why of all the apprentices that had to be trained, did she have to get him as her mentor? Surely he could bring some of his 'qualities' elsewhere? It meant that even if she wanted to rid herself of him and forget he existed, she couldn't. Not until she proved herself capable of being a warrior, because she was obliged to train under his guidance - that was, if he didn't give up on training her first. It was very possible that she would turn out a disappointment to him.
She didn't feel like getting up. She felt like lying there just doing nothing until someone dragged her out of her nest and into the bright, wintry daylight. Not going out training with Blackshard, not going to help the elders, and not going anywhere or talking to anyone sounded quite appealing to her at that moment. It was just that sort of a morning. But instead, Secretpaw sat up and hunched her shoulders to stretch the tiredness out of them, her fur quivering as she tried to rouse herself from her drowsiness. Her nest looked very warm and cosy in comparison to the frosty weather outside the shelter of the den. The weather was still very chilly and though there was a bright sun when the skies weren't overcast and grey, it held very little warmth. She gave her fur a quick lick just to get herself moving.
The nimble she-cat made her way out of the dark den. The moment a cold breeze flew over her ears she wished for her warm nest. Secretpaw settled herself down just outside the den and wrapped her downy tail around her forepaws. She tapped it on the ground rhythmically, bored, as her gaze flitting around camp impassively, looking for nothing in particular. She would wait and see if Blackshard would bring her out training. If he didn't, then she'd go off and do her own thing. She raised a paw hastily to give it a few licks, trying to occupy herself while she would be waiting for Blackshard, if he came.

We fight to live, we live to fight, tonight you'll hear my battle cry Now refusing to sleep in camp all cosy with his fellow warriors he had found his own personal den not too far from the official camp. It all started a few sunrises ago when he had spotted a resonably large oak tree with a rather small hole at the base which was hidden amongst the roots. From the outside it appeared to be nothing and his first intention had been to check if there was any prey hiding in there from the cold. After breaking some of the bark away with his claws so he could reach inside the little hollow he unfortunately did not find any prey but instead decided it was large enough for him to sleep in. Fetching some bedding and making the entrance a little bigger he had made it his home. It was not as warm as the warriors den but Shard was more used to sleeping on his own anyway and it was enough to keep him warm and out of the snow. Sleeping in the warriors den had been uncomfortable as the other cats always made sure they were as far away from him as possible and he didn’t exactly value their company either with the racket they made getting up. The most amusing part was the look on their faces as he had turned up in camp the first morning after not sleeping in their den for they clearly thought he had deserted the clan, but they were not quite so lucky.
Stepping out of his little den his paws were stung by the snow and he began to snarl before reminding himself that attacking the snow would be futile since it was non-living and no blood would be spilled to add to his glory. It was a sharp wakeup call if nothing else, and now it was time to get on others nerves as per usual. Trotting over to the large tree that was camp he slipped into the entrance and prowled past, casting narrowed glares all around him which some even bothered to return, how courteous of them. Snatching a lean bird from the fresh kill pile he carried it away with him and slipped onto his belly. Sitting like a large cat would he gripped the prey between his claws and dug in – tearing feathers from it and crunching down on the bones until he was surrounded with feathers, white shards of bone and every scrap of meat had been eaten. Gathering the remains in a bundle he scooped up some dirt with his paw and neatly placed what was left of the dirt in it before kicking dirt over it. Even the way he ate annoyed them and he loved every single minute of it. Tossing his head back, a sigh whistled through his teeth as he pondered over the day’s activities. Spotting a little black cat who was pointedly looking for something at the other side of the camp he frowned. He kept forgetting his apprentice. Dragging himself to his paws he trotted proudly across camp to reach Secretpaw. ”What are you doing, tiny?” He growled in his usual rough tones.

”What are you doing, tiny?” So Blackshard had indeed shown up. She didn't have to turn her head to see and confirm who it was, she could tell by his words alone who it was. For now, he had remembered that he actually had responsibilities. And what did he think she was doing? Waiting for the prey to come running at her obediently so she could snatch it up from where she sat? Hardly. She twitched her whiskers in irritation at his 'tiny'. She wasn't tiny, exactly. Just compared to him, she was small. Nothing much out of the ordinary. Maybe she didn’t quite look like a Tempestclan cat by structure. She was the 'runt' of her litter as such, but she wasn't weak or malnourished. She was just typically smaller than Brazenpaw and Martenpaw by a margin. But then, she supposed Blackshard could refer to any of the three as 'tiny'. That didn't really make it any better. "I was waiting," she replied. She looked over her shoulder finally at Blackshard.
Secretpaw stood up with a flick of her tail. The apprentice wasn't quite sure what to expect from him as a mentor. Was he even familiar with what he was supposed to do to train her? Probably not. What had Voidstar been thinking when he assigned Blackshard to mentor her? Surely he knew that his brother didn't want to be a mentor, let alone her mentor. She doubted that her mentor really cared much about her training. Or maybe he thought it was a joke. She flicked an ear warily in his direction. "So, what are we going to do today?" she asked lightly. She made no move to go, instead waiting for Blackshard to tell her what they were going to do, half-dreading it as she watched him expectantly.

We fight to live, we live to fight, tonight you'll hear my battle cry Blackshard frowned a little bit. Training was not exactly his most favourite thing to do in the world and the last cat he had trained had also been his daughter, Shiver. He hoped she would make good use of all he had taught her but she was growing to be far too attached to him and that sort of father-daughter relationship was not the type he wished for. Children were simply there to pass on your good genes into the world. ”Clearly, you honestly think you will learn anything by sitting here? You should be out there getting life experience.” He growled and rolled his eyes a little. He would make the most of a bad situation and the outcome would be something great because when Shard did something he did not make a half-assed job of it, he did it well and executed it almost perfectly – although that may just be his own opinion. A long sigh left his kissers as he waited impatiently for the young cat to stand up.
”Ok here’s my plan and if you don’t like it then I don’t really care.” He snapped to make himself clear before she started butting in and complaining. ”We will start with hunting today and I will teach you to do the perfect hunters crouch and hopefully you will catch something, then after that we can try and get you to catch one thing every day on the way to battle training just to keep that skill strong and if you are making any errors I can watch and correct them. Mostly we will focus on your battle training and as long as you do as I say you will be much better than both of your sisters – although you don’t appear to be quite as hot tempered as them.” He explained with a small smile. His schedule was strict and very to the point; a cat did not need to know how to be an excellent hunter they just needed to be able to catch something when they wanted it. However, they had to be prepared for all kinds of attacks that were lurking behind every tree. ”Let us start now then.” He decided and turned to trot out of camp.

”Clearly, you honestly think you will learn anything by sitting here? You should be out there getting life experience.” She lifted a brow, almost amused at his statement. As if she hadn't been going out hunting all the mornings when her own mentor was out enjoying himself, having forgotten her. She nearly spun around and laughed in his face at how silly that sentence was. But she didn't. She didn't know him, and he didn't know her. She didn't know what he would do and she couldn't judge. She didn't want him to stop training her altogether, although she would much rather any of the other warriors as her mentor. Normal warriors were just as good as the next cat. Brazenpaw and Martenpaw were pleased, perhaps overly so, that they had the deputy and the leader as mentors. But she didn't need to be trained by Voidstar or Dreamfeather to be a great warrior. She just needed a little training.
"Mostly we will focus on your battle training and as long as you do as I say you will be much better than both of your sisters – although you don’t appear to be quite as hot tempered as them.” Secretpaw's maw twitched into a little smile as she shuffled her paws uncomfortably, surprised by his comment. What surprised her was what Blackshard said about her possibly being better than them. She didn't even believe he thought much of her. But being better wasn't what mattered. She wanted to be equal, that was all. But then, his morals were different from hers so it was normal for him to make comments like that, not only telling her that she could be better, but saying that it would be because of him. She didn't comment, but smiled a little just to be polite. And no, she wasn't like her sisters. She didn't look like them and she didn't act like them. She was quiet and they were... very opinionated. She didn't voice her opinions when they just spoke whatever came into their minds. She was the smallest of the trio, which added to the fact that she was unlike them. But they were still kin, looks and personalities couldn't change that.
”Let us start now then." She nodded slowly and glanced sideways at him. Had he just decided there and then that they would be training today? Maybe so. "Alright then," she said calmly, nodding forward out of camp. Blackshard moved forward. After a flick of her tail she followed at an even pace, just steps behind him. Already she could scent the trails of different kinds prey and the herbs that had become familiar with trips to the medicine cat den. A little flutter of excitement made her step a little more springy as she thought of battle training.
