VEILPAW
I hope it haunts me 'til I'm hopeless,
I hope it hits you when you go
He streaked along the uneven ground, not moving quite as fast as a cat could, with his slightly heavier frame, but making good time anyway. Veilpaw couldn't run too swiftly, for fear of going sailing down the hillside at his right flank. Just another thing he would never enjoy about the territory he was raised in, contrasting from what his mother said. The sheer steepness of it all. Fatesong probably had a rougher time getting used to it, but the fact of the matter still was, he didn't care for it much.
His long gray pelt was splashed with brown, mucky mud, mixed to a lighter color from snow. The feeling of it clinging to him was unpleasant, but he didn't give it much thought. Veilpaw was on the hunt for prey to fill the bellies of his clan mates. He had always tried his hardest to please Celestialclan. He knew that they didn't like him much as it was, especially with all of these new loners joining the clan. Something interrupted his thought. A tiny rustling, as wind makes through tall grass. There wasn't much remaining grass in their territory in winter, hardly any at all actually. This was the reason it caught his attention. Pricking gray tipped ears, he slid upward on the slope, claws sinking deep into the muddy surface as he gradually pulled himself up toward the shadowy rocks above. Just as he neared the top, one hind paw slipped out from underneath of him, catching on a patch of off run snow. "Crickets!" Snarled the apprentice, adding a few other more common curses to his list as he swung backward from his hold, turning to look in the area where he had slipped. His foot grappled desperately for a hold, and even more so when he saw what a long way it was to fall. Certainly there was the path he had climbed from, not far below. But if he gained enough momentum, he'd miss that entirely and go careening down for hundreds of fox lengths, until he met the rocky dip in the ravine. Veilpaw shivered, and with a last lashing of his large hind paw, found a hold on a rock embedded in the snow. Giving a gasp of relief, the long furred gray tom pulled himself up the rest of the way. I'm starting to think this isn't worth all of the trouble.
They'll call us lonely when we're really just alone.
Veilpaw's golden eyes opened a bit wider at what he saw in the craggy face of the storm colored rocks. A crevice, about twice his size, from which he heard the sound of wind blowing. It had been worth it after all! Without hesitation, he clambered up the rest of the way, into the cool silence. As he slid into the cavern, which opened gradually, grass brushed his face. How could it grow so far up in the mountains? Veilpaw wondered, tasting the air. Nothing but stale scents. From there on, it grew darker, and thus he proceeded with more caution. After he had walked for a short time, he noted light shining in from somewhere ahead, and crumbled rock lining the way. The apprentice skirted the rock shards, eyeing them distrustfully, and continued toward the light, from which he felt wind and could smell fresh air. Veilpaw carefully poked his head out of the small opening, barely large enough for himself, and considered the view of the valley below. It took him a moment to realize he'd come out somewhere close to overlooking the glacier, but from far above. It was an impressive sight, and he would've liked to go down, but it was too steep and rocky. Disappointed, Veilpaw padded back to the end of the cavern more quickly. He could finish exploring here later. He'd gotten off track for too long, and now he needed to finish hunting.
It didn't take him very long to catch a mouse, which he found not far out of the little cavern. He then continued prowling along the path, wary of where his feet fell in case he went tumbling down hill anyway. That could only make his visit to Panaceaheart worse, if he even made it. Maybe I could bring something back for Fawndance and her.
WORD COUNT: 714 TAGGED: Open to anyone NOTES: xD Just a random little discovery, maybe he'll get someone to go back and explore it a little with him later.
