The sky was a dull blue as Onepaw stepped out of the den and onto moist grass. It had just rained and her paws made sucking noises in the camp. She flattened her ears and peered around, hoping she wasn't the only one with clumsy paws. But to her relief the clan paid no attention to her. The small dark gray, she-cat padded across camp, looking for the familiar tortoiseshell and white shecat she knew as Pepperbreath. The Warrior had been named her warrior only a few sunrises ago and Onepaw was still a bit frightened of her. Pepperbreath always looked mad for some reason and she napped so easy it was hard to not step on her toes. Onepaw was hoping she would have a more easy-going mentor but she wouldn't complain. At least she had a mentor who was wise and fast. Onepaw was hopeful that in time they could become very close, even if others said it was impossible.
The apprentice sighed and plopped in the middle of camp. Where was her mentor anyways? Had she already left camp. This thought made Onepaw jump up in shock. Maybe she had slept in? No wonder the clan wasn't paying attention to her! No wonder her mentor hadn't spoken to her! No wonder--The pile of negative thoughts were giving Onepaw a headache and she had to sit once more to clear her fogged up mind.

pepperbreath and she spoke words that would melt in your hands and she spoke words of wisdom
It was her day, evidently, for she was feeling nothing short of divine. Despite the blustery, icy weather that continually tugged and pulled at her short, thin pelt, Pepperbreath's mood was high and her spirits lit. While she was rarely any sort of morning cat, she had risen with the dim winter sun today, and was ready to chase the day to night. Sitting up, the tortoiseshell licked her chops enthusiastically, yawning as if to punctuate her recently finished meal with satisfaction, and shook out her pelt. Time for action, she figured, for she had wasted enough of her day fooling around with nothing. Not long ago she had earned a new apprentice from Paintedstar, and while not entirely excited to train anyone, Pepperbreath figured now was as good as ever to take little Onepaw out for a spin on the territory.
The small, skinny warrior cocked her head, and glanced about. Surely the useless furball was awake and ready to go by now, right? When Pepperbreath's pale eyes did not take in her apprentice's swarthy coat she felt the heat of frustration quickly rising in her chest, her temper becoming inflamed fast. However, she finally spied the smaller female not far off, and released the breath she had been holding. Good, not tardy. Pepperbreath was sour enough without a reason to be spiteful. The warrior shook her head and padded toward the younger cat, pausing behind her and settling her haunches to the slushy grass.
"Surely you've had enough beauty sleep by now, furball," The tortoiseshell's voice formed a low, rasping pur, but was far from friendly. Rather, she sounded quite cold. Her impatiently dancing tail and twitching whiskers didn't soften her appearance in the least, but Pepperbreath wasn't concerned about scaring the little black female. After all, the world contained far more frightening things than a rough mentor, and it was high time her apprentice learned that. "We're gonna practice hunting, so you'd best be on top of your game, lass." With that, Pepperbreath turned and, with a wave of her long, thin tail, set out of camp at a quick lope.
ooc// SORRY this isn't very good but yeah currently pepperbreath's personality is just giving me some trouble. I'll get into the hang of her eventually. hang in there <3

Onepaw flicked her ear as she heard slush behind her, but the sound of a harsh meow still startled the young, dark-gray she-cat. She turned around quickly, flicking her tail in surprise. But she relaxed instantly. It was only Pepperbreath. Finally. She sighed inwardly, a sigh of relieft. She hadn’t been left behind. The small apprentice listened to the warrior’s sharp tongued-words and flinched inwardly, trying to not let it show. She tilted her head as a purr rose in her throat. This wasn’t a purr of pleasure though. She was trying to calm herself. Hunting? Outside the camp? Her aquamarine colored eyes glanced at the entrance of the camp. What lay beyond warm dens and the safety of her fellow clan-mates? Her brothers had tried sneaking out before but she had always refused. The she-cat had never been ready to face the territory other Zephyrclan cats called home. I suppose now is my chance, she thought to herself.
“Hunting? Where exactly-” Onepaw was cut off as Pepperbreath turned sharply, heading out of camp. What did I do? Onepaw sighed again, trying to keep up with her sharp-tempered mentor. As they headed closer to the entrance she could feel thick wind blistering against them. She hadn’t minded it before, but now it scared her. What was out there? What could possibly be so bad that kits had to stay inside camp? She hesitated at the entrance, shuffling her paws on the slushy ground. Onepaw had no choice in the matter. The young cat wanted to help her clan and to do that she had to be a warrior. She had to protect kits and elders and feed the clan as well as any other cat. But secretly she was terrified. How good of a warrior could she be if she didn’t know anything, only as far as the elder’s tales. What good would she be…Maybe I would of been better off born as a kitty pet. Her pessimistic nature was getting g the better of her tactical one. She had to be brave and strong, at least enough to learn how to hunt.
With a heavy sigh she pushed her way through the entrance.

pepperbreath and she spoke words that would melt in your hands and she spoke words of wisdom
When she knew the younger little female couldn't see her expression, the warrior allowed a grin to take hold of her features, and she shook her head with something close to admiration. It was her belief that treating her apprentice rough now would be nothing but benefit later in the little swarthy she-cat;s life. They'd grow close, with time though. There was no way Pepperbreath was about to let Onepaw slip into the death-trap that was believing training would be anything but grueling work. There would be time for fun during her apprenticeship, laughs and joy and the like, but Pepperbreath though the apprentice best realize now that none of those heart-warming moments would be spend with her mentor. Still, the warrior could acknowledge with pride that Onepaw did possess a certain helping of patience and discipline already, for Pepperbreath knew that had she been an apprentice snapped at like that, she wouldn't have stood for it! No sir, but she was glad Onepaw was able to put up with her.
Glancing over her shoulder, the tortoiseshell female snapped a cold "Hurry up," And pushed on, letting a sigh out under her breath. In a moment's notice, the warrior halted and swiftly spun to face the darker she-cat. "I hope you've been looking around, because this is your home and you ought to not get lost, right Smartie-paws?" She meowed rather drily, then lashed her long tail with something like impatience. "Now, we're out on the moor obviously, with the snow and ice 'n stuff you can't particularly distinguish things, but as soon as this shitty weather clears up you're have a much easier time navigating around, alright? Trust me on that one, you'll know your way just by remembering things like patterns of rocks, fox dens, old badger sets, and whip-poor-will nests. Remember to use your surroundings to your advantage, right? You should never get lost after your first few times out on the territory if you're paying attention." Pepperbreath bobbed her head toward a little weak tree not far off-- dead, but still standing. "You'll remember that, won't you Onepaw?" She asked, though the question was genuine her voice was practically a sneer.
Still, she managed to flash Onepaw a quick wink, as if they were both in on the joke, before turning once more and setting off again. This time, there was a slight angle in her direction, as she headed toward the lake. "The lake," She meowed vaguely, gesturing with her tail rather animatedly as she padded along over the light snow, "is the heartbeat of ZephyrClan, believe it or not. We obviously aren't the most renouned fishers, but we do fish, of course, and this is actually a really popular uh, social... meeting... place. I guess. I don't know. I guess the lakeshore is like, the place to be. For a ZephyrClan cat." With that, she led her apprentice to the peak of a knoll, where the lake sprawled out before them. Frozen, of course, but still quite lovely. Small shrubs and trees dotted the snow-sand mixture that lined the ice, and, with a flick of her tail, Pepperbreath continued on her way down the hill toward the water, where she paused once she reached the sand. "Well?"

Onepaw didn’t let the surprise of the snapped mew show on her face. She flicked her tail as the tortoiseshell she-cat told her to hurry up and swiftly followed her. They padded in haste and since Onepaw was much smaller than the older warrior she had a hard time keeping up. The dark apprentice flattened her ears and her whiskers twitched as frigid air hit her full force. That in turn was met with slushing sounds as her round paws sank into the frigid snow. Onepaw stuck out her tongue as her paws became soaked and frozen. She turned to her mentor but the she-cat didn’t seem fazed at all.
The older she-cat was explaining the territory of Zephyrclan. Onepaw listened well, as she always did. She got this trait mostly from listening to the elders. As the smallest of her litter she’d rather spend her time with sweet elders than rambunctious kits. Onepaw had always been like that. She had been a cat that her parents had worried about before they died of course. Onepaw shook away the memory. She had to focus. She didn’t want to upset her mentor already.
Finally they came to the lake. Onepaw had heard of this place but never been as she was too young. Even when her siblings had snuck out of camp she never went with. It was fear that held her back. As the six moon old cat followed Pepperbreath onto a knoll her breath was stolen from her. The lake looked so huge from here. So large and limitless. It brough fear into her body and froze her mew. She watched as Pepperbreath padded towards it but she hung back a second too long. Pepperbreath turned toward her. Obviously waiting on her. Onepaw swept her tail over the frosted grass wondering if she should voice her fears aloud. But the dark-gray she-cat didn’t want to seem like some frightened kit. She breathed in then out again.
“Coming!” She hurriedly ran up to her mentor, squinting her eyes so she couldn’t see what was ahead of her. Which was her downfall when she tripped over a frozen stone and landed face first onto the huge plate of ice. Her aquamarine eyes opened into wide pools as she realized she was standing on the very thing that scared her. Instinctively she dug in her claws to calm her self but that was another mistaked. Her tiny claws punctured the ice, cracking it. When she saw the cracks she turned to head back to shore but that just made bigger cracks. She opened her jaws to call out to her mentor for help but just then the ice broke and her body was pulled underneath freezing water. She pawed at the water and clawed at the ice chunks but still she was pulled under. Onepaw began to let fear take over her body. Her brain stopped thinking, it was fear that surrounded her now. She opened her jaws to scream for help but that only made her swallow large amounts of water. The small apprentice began to feel heavier then and felt her body sink faster.
