reflectedrain** depression please cut to the chase and cut a long story short
[/font] His large, rough paw pads fell lightly upon the dried needles that consumed the forest floor below. The weather conditions improved each day, but it wasn't anything that excited the young warrior. Rain or snow, sunshine or storm, the tom had his mind set on other things. As long as he provided for his Clan, he remained useful as his mind continued on with thoughts of desolace and solitude. Spellpaw was off training with Lilythorn during most of the freetime he had when his duties were fufilled, and Reflectedrain felt as though he saw less and less of her each day. He knew she was working hard to get her warrior name for him, but secretly, he wished she would take a moment to pause. He was guilty of the same thing, though. With the tragic death of Northwind and his emotions running rampant as the only father figure he had was torn from him just when things were seemingly perfect, Reflectedrain had been working himself harder, too. Afterall, he wasn't the only one lost and there was plenty to be done, but keeping busy kept his lonely mind far from the verge of tears. Opening his auburn tabby maw to catch the wind, mingled scents of mouse and stale clanmate tantilized his tongue as he carried on his hunt through the pine forests. Voices were carried on the wind too, one male and one female, and reminded him so much of his assessment. Sighing, he gathered himself together in the sparse undergrowth, looking up at the high branches of living needles hanging above him. Birds sang to each other as they flew at treacherous heights, making the young tom shift uneasily from paw to paw. ' Don't get distracted.' He internally chided himself, blinking his emerald flecked cerulean eyes to clear his thoughts. Light flickered down from the sun's easterly position, as it was just a few hours off from Sunhigh, and entered the otherwise dark parts of the forest. Reflectedrain was well aware that he was near the edge of the wooded areas of territory, but he wanted to get away from the memories that seemed to chase him everywhere he went. Carrying himself onward, he warily approached the tumbling rockslide, careful not to disturb any of the shallow pits where the dangerous snakes hid away. ' Hopefully,' The tom though to himself. ' Some of the others will venture out.' His thoughts were optimistic, but in the heat of the shining sun and the abscence of clouds from the sky, he knew that the reptiles would come out seeking the warmth, longing to bask enough to warm their blood. They'd at least be slow if they did come out simply because the VertigoClan warrior couldn't spot a single one of the snakes roaming about, slithering this way and that. Shuddering at the sudden wind that came up the rocks from the ZephyrClan moors, the short-haired tabby tom fluffed out his fur for a tad bit of protection from the chill that came even beneath the sun. It was still spring, afterall. Lack of prey around him finally made the tom feel restless, and he hopped up onto one of the many rocks of various shapes, sizes, and height. Landing comfortably on his paws, he prepared himself to leap at any sudden movement from below, and steadied himself precariously so that his shadow blended with the rock's natural one. Sounds from behind him, inside the pines, caused him to perk up his ears. Whiskers twitching as he recognized the familiar scent, his mouth opened to speak. " I do hope you didn't come to hunt too." Reflectedrain piped up, standing up straight, and turning his head to the side to peer at the cat via his periphereal vision. A smile spread across his face, his eyes lighting up also. It'd be nice to have the company of someone that he already knew, and this cat was one of them. Thank StarClan, really.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/center]

The days had been long and had been rough since that fateful patrol during that blood-stained evening when Lynxstar had left with four strong warriors ready to defend their clan and returned with only two, losing a life herself thanks to the wolf who had haunted VertigoClan for so long. And while the she-cat was wholeheartedly thankful that the monster had been cleared away, she couldn't help but reminisce with a sad fondness of what had been lost as she padded slowly through the rough terrain. Her pawpads scraped numbly along the tawny rocks as she went, hardly jolting her back to reality. She stopped and turned, facing the still-rising sun as it hung brightly over the lake, whilst ZephyrClan's land and the remaining rockslide sprawled before her.
Perhaps the hardest part of understanding that two of the toms she treasured most were gone was that the wolf was gone too. There was no one to blame, and no one to take her ultimate sorrow and frustration out upon. Of course, that was the reason she was out on the territory now. Pyrethroat felt herself explosive, on the edge of a screaming match with someone far too innocent, like her aunt, or the deputy who would soon lead the clan. Her gaze narrowed as she settled her haunches down onto the rock she had paused upon. The warmth of the sun beaming down on her broad, pretty visage was nice.
No, she liked Lilythorn well enough. Sure they were rivals - they always would be. Lynxstar hadn't enough love or attention to share between them and there would always be jealousy and hurt feelings, plus there was the natural fact that Lilythorn had always simply rubbed Pyrethroat the wrong way. It wasn't hard to do that, and Lilythorn managed to quite well. She was an exceptional warrior, but a leader? Pyre couldn't quite imagine it. The ginger she-cat would just make Jetfang her deputy, and he may as well lead the clan at that point. Glancing down, the calico blinked away vivid sunspots that smeared her vision and drove her claws into the rock, leaving faint white marks. VertigoClan was going downhill and all she ever wanted was to lead. The ache in her heart which never ceased to begin when she thought about the chance to lead suddenly flared up, beating in her ears and turning her nose warm.
Frustrated, the stocky she-cat stood promptly and continued along at last, unable to help herself by sticking her nose into the most mysterious of crevices, despite the danger of adders and ants. "Oh!" She yelped, thoroughly startled by the presence of another all at once. Looking up, she spotted the familiar brown tabby pelt of Reflectedrain, his beautiful gaze shining down at her. "Right, yes. Hunting. That's exactly what I was doing." She purred almost sheepishly, knowing she wasn't convincing anyone. "I just, yeah. Okay, let's hunt." She mewed, casting him a halfhearted smile. "Where to? It's far too hot on the rocks to find anything but basking snakes."

reflectedrain** depression please cut to the chase and cut a long story short
[/font] On days like this, Reflectedrain wanted to join the slithering reptiles as they basked away in the sun. Pyrethroat's sheepish expression as she replied to him made himlaugh. " Riiight." The auburn tabby tom purred back, raising his browline and allowing a goofy smile to spread across his tabby-dappled face. His speckled eyes shone with amusement as they watched the she-cat that was of relation to his leader. " So you're asuming that I'm actually going to put up with you?" Reflectedrain mused, keeping the same expression he had previously bore upon his face. Blinking twice, he shot a grin to the older cat and turned back around to keep a watch over the ground. A slight noise that reminded him of trickling water caused him to perk his ears. Crouching down, he steadied himself on the rock, ready to leap down any second if the snake wasn't an adder. And thank StarClan, it wasn't! Leaping down, one strong paw held the snake down just before it's head to keep him unbitten, and his other paws landed roughly at the sides of the reptile. Nipping it's small head off, he picked the kill up, murmured his prayer of thanks to StarClan, and jumped back up onto the rock. Chuckling, he set the body down before his paws, and licked the bit of blood off his maw from where the prey had bled after his swift kill. " Perhaps that's exactly what I'm after, Pyrethroat." He answered in reply to her question. Reflectedrain nearly added that it'd been Northwind who first fed him snake and then had later taught him how to hunt them, but instead he only thought it, and his eyes now glistened with an emotion other than amusement. " Yeah, perhaps it'd be best to hunt..somewhere..somwhere else." He replied, looking down at the scaled body below him. Its body still writhed now and then, but the movements were slight as the cold-blooded creature's muscles were still taught from having been hiding beneath the rocks. Clearing his grief-stricken throat, he raised his eyes to meet Pyre's and nodded. " Right, then. So toward - look out!" Reflectedrain cried, eyes widening and the hairs on his pelt prickling. An adder was headed toward Pyrethroat. ooc: dundunDUHHNNN[/blockquote][/blockquote][/center]

Fondly, she turned her calculating ochre gaze upon the tom who now made her company, though the warmest of feelings could never be detected in her almost sociopathic eyes, ever devoid of emotion regardless its nature. No wonder so many thought her such a hostile being. Surely Reflectedrain knew better though, right? Still, the female could never be sure and though she tried to read his broad, youthful face, she added a slight smile to her own expression, just in case. "Hush your sassy mouth. I'm the one who has to put up with you. After all, who wants the company of a snot-nosed ragtag kit like yourself?" The warrior chuckled, her bobbed tail moved in a way that could have been a poetic flick had it not been for its unfortunate length. Instead, it appeared as though she wagged her tail like a filthy dog. But it couldn't be helped, and her clanmates were used to her slightly unique body language, thanks to her aunt who led the clan with similar characteristics. "But to be honest, it's hard to concentrate on hunting with all this other shit going on." Frowning, she glanced away, "'Scuse the language. I forget you're still a baby sometimes. But you've grown a lot too, I can see that." Her previous smile had faded away, but it returned now bearing only half the enthusiasm. It was as clan life would always be - losses forcing themselves upon those who never deserved it.
Her expression only changed again when she watched the young warrior, her own muscles tensed in the moment, pursue the tiny rock snake. The calico's face showed a slight frown though she wasn't upset, merely confused. Oh right. How could she forget the way Northwind had favored snakes? As odd of a preference as it was, of course it would be passed down to his former apprentice. She almost laughed, but instead simply dipped her head in congratulations to Reflectedrain. As much as he resembled his less-than-desirable father physically, she now saw much more of his late mentor in him than anything. Still, Reflectedrain had made his mark as a friend in her heart long ago and though the other toms in his life showed in him, his own personality shone through only more prominently as he grew older. Sure, he wasn't so much younger than she, but Pyrethroat still felt the obligation to take him under her wing now that the others he had grown close to were gone.
"Nice catch, champ." She grinned rather wolfishly but only moments passed before she sensed a change in her company's mood. Her maw parted in silent question but before she could utter a word the other warrior cried out and her own gaze widened - if only slightly.
"Hush!" The patched female hissed, frozen. You'll only startle it into attacking. She almost managed to murmur, but was interupted when the snake finally flashed toward her, it's small but deadly jaws gaping to reveal the tainted fangs aiming to end her life. Still, Pyrethroat had been living on this land for far too many moons not to know how to deal with poisonous snakes. Reacting instinctively, the she-cat darted forth with a forepaw outstretched, batting the snake to the rocks and catching it just beneath its jawline with her claws exposed to slice neatly into its writhing body. Before it could slip from her grip, the warrior bent to carefully drive her own sharp fangs into its scaled flesh. When she lifted her head, Pyrethroat grimaced and spat its serpentine blood from her lips. "You carry this filth to somewhere we can bury it, I can't stand the taste in my mouth." Her features remained twisted into a disgusted expression as she pushed it toward the tom with a claw.
"Anyway...." She sighed, unable to say more as she found herself suddenly worn out.

Watching the scene unfold before him, the tom's cerulean and emerald mixed eyes couldn't help but widen just a bit. Now, that was the way you took care of an adder. Any VertigoClan cat would be proud to have seen Pyrethroat defend herself from the threat. It was true VertigocClan, knowing how to deal with slithering bits of danger as they tried to kill you. Reflectedrain was glad to call Pyrethroat a friend, knowing that he had someone to watch his back was comforting when there were dangers unknown to even him. Swallowing, he winced for a moment as his throat felt dry, rough, and raw. Bewilderment etched itself upon his face, and he shrugged it off. Afterall, he hadn't had a drink in quite awhile. Yeah. That was it.
As the senior warrior's orders vibrated in his eardrums, Reflectedrain nodded, and murmured, "I'll get rid of the evidence of the murder, of course.
[/color]" with a light-hearted tone before picking the reptile's corpse up carefully with his teeth, making sure the snake's own fangs were nowhere near him. He slinked carefully over to where the pine forest just about started and unsheathed his claws pull the pine needles aside. Sheathing them before beginning to dig down into the deep brown earth, he felt as if he was on his last assessment again, burying prey. But, alas, that was a few moons behind him now. Wait, was that Northwind's laughter on the wind? The young warrior stiffened, looking about him and sighing as he realized his imagination was getting the best of him. Digging a bit deeper than he would prey, he chucked the adder's body into the hole and covered it with dirt and needles before turning about to return to Pyrethroat. " So, The tom started, licking his parched lips with his pink tongue before carrying on. " Want to head to the pond, then? One of us could try fishing a bit and the other could watch the edges of the pines for thirsty prey.[/b]" He offered up his idea, having thought of it because of his throat. ' That'll go right away once I've had a nice, cool drink.' Reflectedrain told himself, optimistically. ' Right?' Looking a bit frustrated, his annoyance was simply because the tabby tom took much care in not questioning himself or his actions, and he had just done it. Forcing himself to relax, a smile creeped onto his face and he flashed it at Pyrethroat, waiting for her to say if they were carrying on to the stream found in their territory and following it to its source.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify]

Jerking her head up, the patched female met Reflectedrain's jewel-toned gaze and managed to conjure a rather brilliant grin - slightly wolfish, but genuine nonetheless. "Hey shut up would you?" She snapped in a mockingly harsh tone, shaking her head to slightly fluff out the thick mane of fur surrounding her throat and neck; she looked sassier than ever. "Quit your babbling and give me a second to say thanks, alright?" A pause. "But yeah, thanks Reflectedrain. Glad you've got my back. That little demon woulda finished me off for sure if you hadn't spotted it." She purred, her deep voice returning to its default tones, sounding much friendlier now that her joking was finished. She had heard his suggestion though, and dipped her head. She noticed something else deep within his eyes, too. Worry? Pyrethroat sought to ask the tom what burdened him but couldn't seem to find the words, so she dropped it. Surely it was simply the peril that she had just avoided, or she was confusing that glint in his eyes with grief for she knew herself that losing loved ones never got easier.
Inwardly shrugging her concern away, Pyrethroat told herself she would confront him on it later, if he continued to act oddly. "Yeah, let's go to the pond, sure." She mewed, her bobbed tail moving in the way it often did, as if she was waving it like a normal tail. The ginger and brown patched female set off, knowing Reflectedrain would be at her side in a moment whilst she headed for the forest, paws carrying her toward the CelestialClan border where the pond lay and would bubble over and spill down the steep pathways. The more she thought about it, the more pleasant a visit to the little body of water sounded to her. "So, tom, how have you been? We've both been busy lately, huh. Me taking care of my aunt, you becoming a warrior and all. Have you got any girlfriends for your spare time?" She purred, she was joking but the curiosity that all nosy cats possessed stirred inside of her while the sparkling pond shone before them in a gap of the trees.

Meeting Pyrethroat's wolfish smile with his own toothy version of Northwind's old grin, he let appreciation for his friend glint in his eyes. He looked at her with a hurt expression when she told him to shut up, but the pain didn't reach his emerald flecked eyes. "Well I never!" Reflectedrain retorted, sticking his nose up high in the air and letting out an audible 'huff' like an offended elder might do. His act died off within a few seconds and his smile returned before he started up again. "Oh, man, wow, the great ol' Pyrethroat's apologizing to lil' ol me. How unheard of!" The tabby tom replied, his ivories protruding from his maw and his tone that of comeplete awe.
A small laugh escaped him due to his own quirky antics before he turned serious. "Y'know, anytime. I'm glad to have your back, Pyre. Can't have anything bad happening to either of us friends, right?" He replied, shaking his head at the thought. "Too bad you're still stuck with this demon, though!" Reflectedrain added quickly, pointing toward himself with the tip of his tail, eyes gleaming mischeviously.
There was a slight lull in the conversation as the two padded onward, the young tom easily catching up to the older femme, appreciating the companionship she offered him wordlessly. It was comforting being able to just be with someone without worrying what they thought about you or judging you because of some silly thing you did just the other day. Relaxed, that's how Reflectedrain felt with Pyrethroat, and he loved the feel of it. Spellpaw made him uneasy with her moody glances and snappy attitude and there really wasn't anyone else besides mere ghosts of cats for Reflectedrain to talk with. Sure, he could bother his mom now and again, but she was busy with her own life, whatever it consisted of. Reflectedrain, at times like this, missed his siblings, and was glad that Pyre was around to treat him like a big sister would if they ignored the large generation gap.
He heard the streams trickling into the pond before they reached it, and the dull ache of his throat seemed to grow stronger with the temptation tantilizing him as the body of water came into view. Swallowing hard, he was met with sharp pain, and winced before looking back at the brightly patched female next to him as she spoke. Her last words made his face heat up, and his pelt prickled with embarassment. "I've been okay, y'know. A bit on the down side since...yeah." The tom had to pause to blink away the piercing pain within his chest and refused to swallow away his emotions because it woud cause more pain, but a different kind.
"Girlfriends? Haha, I dunno about those." He replied to the older warrior, grinning wide and refusing to feel guilty about not acknowledging Spellpaw as something. "There's, ah, Spellpaw who's my friend that's, ah, a, uh, girl. But, uh, that's it. I mean Iunnoboutnyunnelseorennythin'." The tom began mumbling at an incredibly fast pace, clamping his mouth shut before he said anything else. "I think I need a drink." He squeaked, racing forward to the water and lapping at its cool surface with his sandpaper tongue. Gulping down the water with more ferocity than he should have, he willed the water to soothe his scratchy, dry, and irritating throat to no avail. In fact, the young tabby ended up bursting into a coughing fit as he choked on the stuff.

"Oh would you please shush your sassy mouth? Besides, we both know I wouldn't be caught dead apologizing to the likes of you," Her eyes still held a playfully cruel glint while she peered through her red and black mask at her companion as she relentlessly continued to jeer, "That was nothing more than a hardly humble thank you, actually." She broke her facade with a light, easy peal of laughter which slipped harmlessly through her opened jaws, her brilliant teeth still shining in that characteristically predatory manner.
"Aw." She mewed in something of a sarcastic dig, her commanding tones continuing to hold a subtle sneer, as usual. "Bros for life, right hun?" Pyrethroat grinned, wagging her tail in a comically dog-like manner. "Even if you are a little demon," She muttered, shaking her head but retaining a whisper of a smile. But when she spoke again, she had taken on an earnestness rarely seen upon the likes of herself. "You've come a long way though, I swear. I'm glad you value our friendship at least almost as much as I do. You're a good kid." The female sighed, meeting his glassy aquamarine gaze boldly, "You're going places." With that, she let her attention slip away for a while as they made their way through the deep coniferous forest. Slate and fresh scents alike tickled her nose, which twitched with animalistic excitement as the temptation of hunting teased her mind. The thought passed, though, and she narrowed her eyes in concentration though it was just so easy to become distracted in the forest. Focus, mousebrain. You'll hunt in a moment anyway. Right. Her attention returned to the tom padding along at her side, and Pyrethroat couldn't push back the smile that formed along her maw. She had meant every word - she couldn't deny even to herself the potential she saw in the young warrior. He had an apprentice now, was the idea of putting him in a position of power once she lead the clan so unreasonable? The thought sent a shiver dancing along her oddly sloping spine. As soon as she figured out a way to dispose of Lilythorn in a way that wouldn't upset her clanmates, VertigoClan would be hers. The calico's grin was a dark and sardonic one.
"What?" She frowned, "Oh, right. Yeah same." She shook her head, as if Reflectedrain could read her ambitious thoughts and simple movement would disperse them - it wouldn't. It always lurked in the deepest corners of her mind.
Coming to a halt at the pond's rocky shores, Pyrethroat sunk into a graceful crouch and let her nose dip into the frigid water before raising her head a whisker and lapping up a bit to drink herself though, as she glanced sidelong at the tom, not with quite the urgency. She sat up slowly, and drew her tongue over a particularly unruly patch of alabaster chest fur, then let out a harsh bark of laughter. "Riiiiight." The warrior purred, casting the tabby tom a rougish wink. "It's okay, I was only asking to see if you'd fess up to anything. The whole clan already knows you wanna bang Spellpaw. Nothing slips by in VertigoClan, remember?" When she managed to get that out, Pyrethroat couldn't help the bemused bout of laughter that ensued.

"My sassy mouth? Why, I'm just trying to keep up with your incessant bouts of sass, hun." Reflectedrain couldn't help but retort to the older calico femme near him. "Right." Meowed the tom brightly. Rolling his emerald flecked eyes in mock irritance, he ignored to follow the orders she had begged of him and neatly swatted at her with his tabby tail. 'Take that!' He thought, grinning as a deep, rumbly purr arose in his throat. "Yeah, I'm going places. Going in circles is more like it 'cause I've been following your old ass around!" The young warrior teased, running around the bobtail to make a point before laying off the silliness as Pyrethroat did the same.
His entire body lit itself on fire as Pyrethroat's words echoed in his ears, disbelief and horror rushing through his veins as they ran cold. Reflectedrain tensed, recovering a bit from his mix between a coughing fit and just plain old choking. "You're such a liar, Pyrethroat." He replied, his tone cool and even. "I've fessed up to nothing aside from being Spell's friend." The tom kept plowing through the words as they entered his mind and went right out his mouth. Cringing as he used the affectionate nickname he had for Spellpaw, he whipped about and looked Pyrethroat right in the eye. "So what if I like her? She's has near as many troubles as I've had, if not more."
Pulling himself together, the tom sat down and glowered for a moment at his friend before closing his eyes and feeling heat spread across his entire face. "And I most certainly do not want to 'bang' her. I'm hardly fourteen moons, and she's barely reached twelve!" Muttered the tabby tom, opening his cerulean gaze to peer down at the ground. Swallowing hard, his throat still ached an icy chill that was different from the one he had experienced before ran through him. Water hadn't helped out his pain one bit, and Reflectedrain was starting to get a bit worried. "Er, anyway. What are Lynxstar's symptoms?" He chimed, a bit worried. "I mean, just so I know them in case anybody else starts experiencing them and doesn't want to go running straight to Icefeather." The tom threw in, trying to dispel any suspicions as his own emotions turned to worry on the inside. 'I can't be sick, can I?'

PYRETHROAT Despite her oddly built frame, the female still had a surprising bit of agility and grace to her movements; something she showcased in a single smooth sidestep, to deal her companion a hard shove to his side before with a fighters' instincts, she skipped several strides away. A devious grin lit up her broad, feminine mask, though her eyes continued to contain little to no emotion. It was simply a gift, to shroud any feeling that disrupted her mind with a grin or a frown, leaving her clanmates guessing. She moved swiftly to perch her stocky calico frame upon an outcropping that overhung the pond, elevating herself above Reflectedrain.
With a narrowed gaze, she continued to observe him struggle with whatever was burdening him, and he juggled that quite well with the task at hand - which was keeping her company. The older female grinned again, and spoke at once, her deep voice hitting the water with power. "I'm going places too, idiot. You sure as hell better be following my tail so you can come with!" First plan of action: deal TempestClan a sweet ass-whooping. She decided not to inform the tabby of her most violent of goals, yet. Still, she grasped onto a dangerous smirk like a blade. "Speaking of which, how do you feel about Lilythorn?" Pyrethroat wasn't afraid of invasive questions of course, so while Reflectedrain struggled to pass off his relationship with Spellpaw as nothing, she decided to pipe up with a soft, snide comment; "Fun fact: most cats become sexually mature between the ages of seven and eleven moons." She chuckled, and added, "You probably coulda spat out a few litters by now if you'd tried harder." A spark of glee managed to curl her tailtip while she watched her friend struggle with his embarrassment, but she continued to laugh as his evident discomfort rather than rescue him. As she saw it, young toms could always afford to be taken down a notch.
'I mean, just so I know...' The older warrior snorted, "Oh, that's what you've been squirming about? Well, I'm not sure. I've tried to mostly stay away so I dont catch it. You better not give it to me either, punk." Pyrethroat snapped, twitching her short tail curtly, "She's just tired all the time, won't eat because she aches too much. Blah blah. She's been sneezing too. I'm sure you'll find out soon enough who's got it and who doesn't." well they've got the land but we've got the view TEMPLATE BY BROOKE |

His grin was inescapable as Pyrethroat retorted in sharp, crisp words. "Well, well, I wonder where you're going, then. Nap-time, maybe?
[/u]'" Reflectedrain jeered warmly to his companion. Come to think of it, the young warrior wasn't sure where he was going. What was going to come of his life? Surely a life with Spellpaw, perhaps another, if Spell never stopped avoiding him. Maybe kits, but other than that, he'd be doing the exact same thing he's always been doing. " Hey, don't you ever get bored? I mean, you've been prancing around doing the same duties since apprenticehood for what, three hundred moons?[/u]" Aquamarine swirled eyes twinkled with amusement as the tom jabbed lightly at the bob-tailed calico once more. It was all in good fun, but the young warrior was curious to know. Was it boring being stuck in the same position for forever? Before he knew it, Pyrethroat was asking him a question, and his face crumpled up in confusion. " But, I thought you knew? Lilythorn and I have been running off together into the night at all wee hours of the morning and night.[/u]" He untruthfully confessed, keeping a straight face the entire time before his front daggers emerged from his lips. " Alright, alright, I dunno what to think about her anymore. She's so distant lately, like Jetfang's got her all confused.[/u]" Reflectedrain dismissed with a small shrug. Lilythorn's business is Lilythorn's business, all he knew was that she had been an old, distant friend of his mother's. Jeepers, he didn't even know if they were close or even got along. As Pyre spewed out her fun fact, Reflectedrain couldn't help but to snort indignantly and roll his eyes at her, glowering for a moment. " Fun fact: I don't want kits while I'm young. Remember, I got to watch Chasmriver and Flamingarrow struggle, and I really don't think VertigoClan needs a repetition of sorts.[/u]" Concluded the tabby tom, his emerald and cerulean eyes solemn for once. " Unless, y'know, you're up for it, Pyre. But you don't seem like a motherly type to me.[/u]" Reflectedrain volunteered, ducking down and darting backward a bit to avoid any physical retorts the calico might add to help accompany her words and to make a point. " Hey, I'm not sick. Got a sore throat is all. Icefeather'll fix me up with something real nice for it as soon as I get the nerve to tell him.[/u]" He called to her, pausing a moment where he stood half-crouching, half-lying down to track a plump water vole that had peeked out from its nest. " You're mine![/u]" The warrior noted as he prowled forward and lept toward the rodent, biting it's neck and holding it down with his paws. Picking it up gently with his jaws, he carried it back to where Pyrethroat stood near the water and set it down by her paws. " Seems we've reversed roles.[/u]" Reflectedrain commented, raising his brows with a semi-straight face. ooc: what cheek[/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify]

PYRETHROAT Where she lay on her rocky overhang, the cliff jutted slightly above the pond's serene waters opposite of where the stream splashed away down the mountain. While the trees obscured any scenic views she might have enjoyed from this perch, the female had no trouble imagining the foliage lacking leaves, for many winters she had sat upon that very spot to think to herself, or simply admire the breathtaking VertigoClan territory. Now was no time for her to let her attention wander, though, for her clanmate was mercilessly trying his paw at a bit of wit. Of course, he was failing quite miserably, but Pyrethroat applauded his effort nonetheless.
"Oh cute, cute, Reflectedrain. You just go ahead and keep recycling those age-jokes, okay? Meanwhile, I'll go do something useful like lead the damn clan or find the cure to this sickness. Okay?" She purred, her pyrite gaze was icy as she cast the tabby tom a frigid stare. Her tone was sweetly mocking, and rather cruel. "You're really struggling to take anything seriously, aren't you? The jibes really are adorable, but cut the shit, asshole." Her voice rose to a snarl. "And yelling at your prey isn't really gonna make it wanna jump into your claws, by the way." She sighed and closed her eyes, allowing her temper to subside, like the tide ebbing away; for as soon as it had receded enough, her friendly side made another appearance. With a deep breath, Pyrethroat opened her eyes once more and looked at Reflectedrain, knowing she oughtn't be so hard on him. He was young and all, just barely emerging from the gauntlet that was apprenticeship. Still, it was past time for him to learn that the world wouldn't pet and kiss him like he was so used to. But, her softer side argued, he needs to take moments to himself to have fun! The attractive little calico shook her head, it was true that he had lost both parents in terrible ways, but he needed to learn to respect his elders! His comment on her maternal instincts shook her, but she kept from flinching and maintained her outwardly composed appearance.
"Nice catch," She meowed begrudgingly, narrowing her gaze at him. "But I could probably do better," She added with a humorless smirk, flopping down on the warm bed of stone to sun her patched fur, while her face was inclined toward the sun, her eyes closed.
"And if you really must know what I mean when I say I'm going places, I mean I'm gonna lead this damn clan if it's the last thing I do." She opened one eye to peer at Reflectedrain for his reaction, but didn't pause, for she went on right away, "Everyone knows VertigoClan will become even more of a pit of despair if Lilythorn is forced to lead it. I mean she's gotta be the least ambitious or assertive cat that I know. She's a great cat, but she wouldn't know leadership if it bit her in the ass. Lynxstar's dying, and everyone knows it. I'm gonna be the one there when it happens, and I'm gonna be the one there afterwards, to put it bluntly." Oh StarClan did that feel good to tell someone. Pyrethroat had never openly shared her ravaging ambitions before, and she sensed Reflectedrain wasn't the type to run off and tattle. The sudden stare she sent his way dared him to, though, accompanied by a cold smirk.
"It's all so simple, and I hate that my aunt has to die for my wishes to be fulfilled but it's the way life goes. Not another cat has to die, because I know just how to play this game." Pyrethroat sighed contentedly, her eyes closing toward the sun once more, a smile curling her lips rather deviously.

He smirked openly at her, his face illuminated by the bright rays of light that reflected off the water, green laced cerulean eyes glittering with amusement. "Sounds like you know exactly what you're doin', princess.
[/u]" He countered, whiskers twitching at the calico. Swallowing his laughter along with his grin, he turned away from her, carefully watching their surroundings for more prey. Reflectedrain's ears twitched as Pyrethroat spoke, and bits and pieces of her words made him tense, his stomach growing nervous. That was crazy talk, but each syllable she spoke rang true. Lilythorn had been in charge for the last moon while Lynxstar had been stricken with the sickness and all she'd done was arrange patrols and either lay consorting with Jetfang or lounging about in an attempt to heal. Hell, she'd only called one or two Clan meetings, and even without her guidance, VertigoClan kept pounding away in the dark. She was useless, simply a vessel for false hope and courage, rather than the glorious icon of power and life that Pyrethroat could be, or rather, was. Lynxstar herself had led them beautifully with her calm and quiet seriousness, but Pyrethroat's intentions would bring a fresh breath of spirit and vitality to the otherwise stifling, drama-filled Clan. " Y'know, if anyone catches you talking like that, they'd either agree with you or have your hide. But, I can't help but agree with you. So tell me, how're you going to lead this clan and who's going to be backing you up besides me?[/u]" He asked, looking around so that his head directly faced her, peering at her green eyes, grasping on to her ideas, her rebellion. Reflectedrain would do anything for her as long as she knew what she was doing, and that was one thing he was certain about right then and there in that single instance of time. " Lead on, Pyrestar.[/u]"[/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify]
