* DREAMFEATHER
I'm at war with the world 'Cause I ain't never gonna sell my soul
This was the busiest time of day in camp. The sun was high in the sky, burning brilliantly and lending it's fierce strength to the Tempestclan warriors and apprentices. Anything could happen, when cats were everywhere, conversation on their lips, a destination in their thoughts. Hunting, patrolling, fighting, training... If Dreamfeather let her guard down, something might snap. She might snap. Images of Blackshard leading an attack on the camp filled her mind, and horror glistened for a moment in her crystal blue lights. "Dreamfeather?" The deputy snapped around, shaken roughly from her daydreams by the voice. It took her a moment to realize it was a female voice that meant no harm, as she stared at a younger cat much like herself in appearance. A lighter gray cat with stripes that were dark gray, tabby not bengal, but still strikingly similar to her own pelt; ivy colored eyes gazed at the deputy cautiously. "Cousin?" Splashpaw, the daughter of her uncle Rivershadow, questioned her, giving her a worried look. She was relieved from the fear of an attack; the insightful apprentice always calmed her down a bit.
Once the tabby was sure she had Dreamfeather's attention, Splashpaw continued. "You told me I should go on patrol with you around sun-high today, but my mentor is leading the evening patrol. Could I go with Flareheart on the Hunting Patrol later? I had hoped she might show me a new place to hunt." The silver bengal had been so absent lately; how could she have placed her cousin on her own patrol, instead of Flareheart's? She rarely assigned apprentices to go out with patrols that didn't include their mentors. "Sure, Splashpaw. Go and let her know I said that was fine." She murmured a response absently, dipping her head as the apprentice scurried off to let her mentor know she was joining the evening patrol.
Of course she had forgotten her own border patrol, which should be going out soon. Who did I select, again...? It took her a moment; her mind had been occupied a lot lately, with thoughts of revolt and dreams. Oh. Badgerlight and his apprentice, Mintpaw, I think. She had just spoken to the tom yesterday morning, probably the first time she had actually conversed with him in quite a while, but knew he was a valuable warrior. Probably he would have rather been hunting, as she would have, but the duties had to be split evenly. She had reminded him earlier, so he and Mintpaw should be arriving soon for patrol. "A three cat border patrol does seem a little small, though, doesn't it?" She mused aloud, though generally three was all that was needed, two warriors and an apprentice. "Perhaps I ought to bring Blackshard along too, but just so Voidstar isn't annoyed with me for bringing out such a small patrol." Dreamfeather murmured to herself, her whiskers twitching. Now was a good time to test the newcomer; besides, there couldn't be a revolt in camp if he wasn't here, could there? It would set her mind at ease and give her something to report back to the leader, Blackshard's brother. She could justify her pressing his buttons a bit by saying he needed to replace Splashpaw.
Spotting him near the nursery, probably visiting Adderdance, Dreamfeather padded smoothly over to the tom. "Blackshard, you'll be going on the border patrol with me. We need an extra cat." Her voice was toneless, gaze emotionless, betraying nothing of how deeply she mistrusted him. She was just the deputy, assigning duties to cats, whether they were eight moons older than her and bloodthirsty rogues or not. He was just a warrior, and she 'valued' his coming along to defend the clan's borders. After all, it was all he could do for them, seeing as Voidstar had so kindly allowed him to reside here with the kits.

Mintpaw, a sandy brown she-cat, padded into camp eagerly. She had just finished training with her mentor, Badgerlight. They had been battle practicing, and he had shown her a few new moves. Aside from the minor scratch in her flank, she felt fine and energized. Slowly, she sniffed out the cats in the clan. Spotting Dreamfeather, TempestClan deputy, she scurried over to the she-cat. Skidding to a halt in front of her, she straightened up. "Hi, Dreamfeather!"
She exclaimed, exhaling. "I'm here for patrol."

It was a surreal experience. He was in a camp actually living there and eating their food and they would be raising his kits. It just sounded too ridiculous to be true and Tempestclan had another thing coming if they thought they would be raising his heirs. After all his kin had to be raised properly and he was doubtful about how well they would be raised in a clan. Adderdance was stupid just agreeing to that so easily. That was the problem with she-cats. They became soft too easily and gave in, forgetting to be smooth when making deals; so he couldn’t say he was surprised by her slip up. Maybe one day he would meet a female who wasn’t a total airhead that is not a relation of his.
As a pretty silver feline came into view his amber gaze settled upon her face. She spoke to him with a cold and affectionless tone. Almost as though she thought she was better than him. He could feel his fur begin to prickle at this although he managed to control it before anyone would notice anything but he was angry. His eyes narrowed as he took a step closer to the she-cat and eyed her suspiciously all over. ”You sure that’s the only reason you want me to come?” He purred and winked one blazing amber eye before brushing the tip of his tail against her flank. If she thought she was so much better than him then he would make spending time with him a living hell for her. Never anger a tom that could be as annoying and frustrating as he could be.
Hell, this even made him think of a rather fetching plan. He would spend his time flirting with Dreamfeather here and by doing so he would get under her skin and distract her from her duties. Then Voidstar would get angry and favour him over her and then she would probably get demoted and be put in her place. Then she wouldn’t be so great. Maybe there could even be kits; they would certainly ensure Voidstar’s annoyance with Dreamfeather. At least this little plan of his would begin to give him a bit of structure and direction because he was already growing bored with Adderdance and her large belly.
Whipping his head around he saw a small female tabby cat come over, her optimistic tone ringing through his ears which resulted in the narrowing of his eyes. Even by the way she approached the two cats he could tell that she was young and inexperienced. It was beyond him how one could put up with such young and optimistic cats. All of the young cats he knew had been trained to be aggressive and cold hence they would never be caught bouncing around excitedly. A frustrated sigh came from his maw as he glared ahead while mentally preparing himself for this torturous event. If he didn’t try to calm himself down he doubted that there would be four cats returning from this patrol.

* DREAMFEATHER
I'm at war with the world 'Cause I ain't never gonna sell my soul
She gazed at him coldly as he advanced, breathing the same air as her now, too close. Dreamfeather's nostrils flared slightly at the foulness of being so close to him, but she knew it was a challenge and couldn't back away, staring right back into his fiery amber lights. Just what is he suggesting...? Her lip curled away to reveal glistening ivory fangs, but before a vile threat could escape her throat, a cold shiver ran beneath her fur. An ebony tail tip stroked her flank, and only a snarl escaped. "Keep your filth to yourself, crowfood!" Dreamfeather hissed softly, so as no one else would hear her. Raising her head again, a bit of silver fur stood up on the back of her neck. The invasion made her want to curl up onto herself and sleep until she couldn't feel the embarrassment of it anymore, of thinking what Voidstar might think had he seen it. What any of her clan mates would think. She held her ground, though, not backing away from his malicious presence.
She was oddly comforted by the interruption of another, breaking between herself and Blackshard. As a youthful brown she-cat moved swiftly before her, Dreamfeather wondered how Mintpaw could possibly be Badgerlight's apprentice. The cold eyed deputy appraised her for a moment, remembering Midnightpaw, her own clumsy apprentice before she became a deputy. If Blackshard was getting the feeling that this cat was inexperienced, she had it deep in her heart like a thorn. Even her own cousin didn't skid up to her like a friendly kittypet, voice loud and carrying a tone. She was happy, of course, Mintpaw. The young were always happy, even in this clan. At times, she envied them. Oh, well. Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?
With that last rather dark thought she nodded to Mintpaw, icy eyes glinting. At best she was glad that the apprentice hadn't witnessed the exchange between herself and the black tom. Where is everyone? Mintpaw had questioned her, staring at her with her vivid green lights. "Your mentor, Badgerlight, was supposed to be on it as well, but now that I remember he was already on the dawn patrol with me. So I suppose we'll have to deal with just you, myself, and this unsavory character." She nodded to the black tom, sharing a look with the apprentice for a moment. Dreamfeather wondered, would she be frightened of the rogue tom? Or simply without caution, so hyper and energetic that she knew nothing of him and didn't have the wits for fearing Blackshard? The deputy didn't want to go on the patrol alone with him, with just a little apprentice tagging along. She wanted Badgerlight, with his comforting presence, in case he tried anything else. But Badgerlight hadn't shown. If she searched desperately for a warrior that wasn't busy, she would look like she was afraid- and she couldn't ask Voidstar, Tempestclan couldn't afford for both their leader and deputy to be out together on patrol. It looked like she was going to have to go along with it, and hope that he was too smart to attack too soon, to try anything, when she could put up a fight. And yet, it wasn't that kind of an attack, one that gave scars, that she was afraid of. Whatever his deal was with his suggestion, the tail on her flank, that had rattled the otherwise placid deputy, even if she hadn't shown it much. She didn't like it, didn't like the feel of it or the sound of it. Dreamfeather didn't want to be near him now. But I have to. Suck it up!
Keeping her thoughts to herself as usual, the silver bengal led the way out of camp, silent. Now, not only had she singled him out to patrol with her, she had single-handedly made them fairly alone in the forest. Dreamfeather didn't like the thought, not at all. I wish Hailghost was along, or Voidstar, or even Longshadow... Giving her own quiet, weary sigh, she made her way out of the camp without looking to see whether the dumbstruck apprentice or cruel rogue followed.
OOC. Since Frosty had been inactive, I knocked him out so we wouldn't have to wait a long time for a reply.

Mintpaw stared at the deputy. Then she noticed the black tom, who looked so much like Voidstar. He looked dark and eerie. Suddenly feeling a little scared, the apprentice moved closed to the deputy, their pelts almost touching. Her whiskers quivered. Suddenly, the silver bengal she-cat was staring intently at the apprentice, her ice blue eyes not daring to waver. "Your mentor, Badgerlight, was supposed to be on it as well, but now that I remember he was already on the dawn patrol with me. So I suppose we'll have to deal with just you, myself, and this unsavory character." She said, her voice smooth. Mintpaw felt a wave of jealousy roll over how. How could Dreamfeather be so cool and calm all the time?
Suddenly feeling as if she were an annoying kit again, the sandy she-cat fell back on her paws, her body like deadweight. She watched the silver bengal slip out of camp gracefully. Feeling regretful that her mentor, Badgerlight, wasn't there, the apprentice raced off to join the deputy. Suddenly remembering the dark tom from earlier, she slowed her pace. Should she bring up the rear? She had only just been made an apprentice, but she had heard from warriors and other apprentices that this tom was Voidstar's brother. The orange warrior Flamestripe, and the infamous Dreamfeather herself, had caught him intruding on the border whilst on patrol. Trying to remember what gossip she had heard throughout the clan, she remembered someone saying he was dangerous. The fur on her shoulders raised, and her tail flew up. Glancing back behind her, Mintpaw scurried ahead. She knew she ought to bring up the rear, make sure the tom didn't do anything, but she was too scared. Tail drooping, the apprentice caught up for Dreamfeather, staying only a tail-lengths behind. She felt so pathetic and useless. Why couldn't Badgerlight be here?

The beastly tom could feel discomfort radiating from the silver females pelt causing him to release a very quiet purr. It was barely enough to be heard but just enough. The fact he was so resented by the she-cat brought him a simple pleasure. It was in hatred that Shard found solace and he would happily feed from hatred as long as it existed. Sadly the truth happened to be that hatred would always exist and so would his evil. As she responded his eyes lit up like torches; lighting up the night sky despite the fact the day was just starting. However, wherever he went he brought the darkness with him and that was one of the intimidating things about Shard, or Blackshard as he was now referred to. Nevertheless he was still Shard all the same. He glanced at her fangs and chuckled lightly. ”Better keep them where I can see them.” Watching her with cold eyes he was a little disappointed when she turned away but it wasn’t like it would be hard for him to keep her attention. The big scary stranger might do something dangerous after all and nobody would want that to happen.
It was simply a pity that Badgerlight was unable to join them for he had been looking forward to having a reasonably sized group of new cats to terrorize. Although he did find it amusing that she was trying to undermine him by sticking with the apprentice rather than an older, more experienced tom cat such as himself. Then again he could always just act innocent, not that he ever could be. ”Well that shouldn’t be a problem then since that’s the way you like it Dreamfeather, bitter and distant.” He recoiled sharply with a knowing expression worn on his features. It wasn’t hard to tell that she was the type to push others away and to busy herself with her work so she didn’t have to focus on any sort of relationships – or maybe there was more to her than that. So far he had only seen her trying to push others away, which included her own clan mates, until now when she stayed close to the young female tabby unless that was just her being protective. It was probably just an anyone but him scenario. It always was that way.
Following Siv’s death he had been in solitude apart from a group of kits with which he had no patience, although maybe he could raise them to be cunning and similar to him. After all, three of them had his blood and two of them were the kits of his good Delirium friends who happened to be excellent minions – he refused to call them warriors like the clans used to refer to their experienced fighters. However, only one of them was male which proved a problem because females were typically less efficient at what he had in mind. They would just have to help with keeping the clan well fed. It was a shame there were no tom’s that belonged to him. The only male kit of his that he knew of resided in Vertigoclan and would be hard to reach. Not to mention the fact that he hated him. He would just have to make more kits until he fathered an acceptable amount of tom cats. One good thing about Siv’s death was that he no longer had her annoying him. She had always wanted a sort of relationship with Shard and this was something that he had always refuted. Now that she was gone this was no longer a problem.
Picking up his pace he approached Tempestclan territory cautiously but with confidence. He showed no fear in his step and proudly walked over the terrain as if it was his own. Although his senses were more alert just like they always were in territory unfamiliar to him but soon all that was going to change. ”Well this is fun, right tiny?” He growled to break the silence, looking at the small tabby.

* DREAMFEATHER
I'm at war with the world 'Cause I ain't never gonna sell my soul
Dreamfeather felt a sharp pang as Blackshard commented on her. Is that the way I like it? Cold and distant? Even he seemed to pick up on it. The expression that dawned on the former rogue's features made her ache dully, but she had already turned quickly away and said nothing in reply, willed herself not to care what others thought of her. Particularly not an insolent outsider, with rogue blood... Voidstar's blood. How can I hate him for being a rogue when our own leader shares kin with him? She wondered hopelessly, torn between hating him for his blood and forced indifference.
While Mintpaw envied her coldness, Blackshard seemed to find distaste in it. She had always been proud of her position in the clan, but her relationships were seriously lacking. The bengal was proud that the younger cats looked up to herself and her brother, particularly her easily lost cousin, Splashpaw. She had a burning desire to protect all of her clanmates, even if she seemed far away from them. Their interests had always been first in her mind; so why couldn't she be more friendly with them? It was somehow easier to feel nothing at all. She didn't even know where to go from here; she didn't just hide her feelings, she never really felt them genuinely either. It felt natural to her, to be blunt and cold. There was nothing to it. She would even defend Blackshard if she had to; Voidstar wanted him alive, and it was her job to keep him whole. Not that it looks like he needs much help with that... Dreamfeather thought grimly, casting a glance back at last as they neared an open clearing. Mintpaw had caught up, and now the tom brought up the rear. That made her fur prickle with uneasiness and distrust. I can't expect a young apprentice to act like me around him. I'm nervous as a young warrior- she must be terrified of him. With every right to be, too.
A feeling of protective warmth rushed over her, stomach feeling a bit sick, as she dropped back and her tail brushed Mintpaw's side. Blue eyes glinted, ice melting a bit; she seemed to be wordlessly saying that they could handle him, and it was nothing to worry about. Still, Dreamfeather couldn't help but hope that they would run into an experienced warrior who could help with this patrol. Then she would feel safer, with one cat to lead and herself keeping an eye on their 'guest...' Probably her flicking her eyes back to him, breaking looks with the apprentice, made him think she wanted to look back to him. He was full of himself, just as full as Flamestripe. "Watch it." She growled softly, daring him to fight with her, meeting cold blue eyes to his amber lights. She was afraid, but she would do what she had to. Mintpaw was much smaller than both of them, which was to be expected because of her age and how tall Dreamfeather herself was built. That didn't mean she had to tolerate abuse for Blackshard, but the deputy hoped Mintpaw would hold her tongue and resist getting angry; the black tom would only feed off of her anger.
From ahead, her silver ears pricked to hear the rustling of another feline, coming from the opposite direction. Dreamfeather was wary to turn her back on the two of her patrol, but did so anyway, in case it were a badger or a fox. Still, as she parted her jaws and drew in the scents of the forest, she knew it was just another of their clanmates. For now, the tom couldn't try anything; if it was a warrior, she would have back-up.
OOC. xD Hope that's okay? If not, I'll change it. But yeah, Emberblade can enter from there, if that's what you want. (I laughed at Shard, btw.)

He absolutely couldn't believe that he'd forgotten that Badgerlight had needed him to take his place on the patrol. Emberblade had woken up late to start with and had nearly rolled over and slept some more when he noticed the emptiness of the den and the heat in the air. That had jolted him awake quite quickly, and the tom had nearly flew out of camp on his large, swarthy paws before being stopped by one of the elders as he tried to escape from the large tree that made up his home. Now, as he quickly streaked through the wet territory of TempestClan, he desperately tried to locate the border patrol. His pace began to slow as he approached the others, their scents lingering in the damp conditions, and slipped quietly into the clearing that they had just entered.
Immediately, the swarthy tom dipped his head to the grey tabby feline standing before him, looking at him with her pretty blue eyes. Emberblade then looked cautiously at the other obsidian tom, stopping his veridian orbs just in time, as they were nearly about to narrow with contempt at Blackshard. Shaking his head slightly, he threw a small, controlled smile to Mintpaw and focused once more onto the deputy. "My apologies, Dreamfeather. Badgerlight had told me that he wouldn't be making the patrol and asked if I might take his place. I gladly accepted, and now it is my fault that you had to start the patrol with a lacking number of cats. I do hope all is forgiven." Emberblade quickly explained, his odd words inflected with hope that he might be consoled, all accompanied with another polite dip of his head.
Dark fur mussed up from the wild way he had acted trying to reach the small group of cats, Emberblade knew that now would not be the time to groom himself, especially not with the latest addition to the Clan and the deputy around him. Feeling awkward for a moment, he frowned, but then his expression faltered back to a smile until he began to detect the tension between the obsidian tom and the tabby she-cat. "I, ah.. is everything alright? Did I stumble in at an odd time?
" The tom asked, bewilderment etching itself upon his sultry face, his emerald eyes holding an embarassed light touched with a bit of confusion. Something definitely wasn't right, and the TempestClan tom was more than certain that it had to do with Blackshard. ooc: wow, i so don't know how to play him yet. xD[/blockquote][/blockquote]

× × × × × × × × × × × × × × ×
Mintpaw felt her fur continue to rise as she walked along side the black tom. His name was Blackshard now, but Mintpaw knew that his original name had been Shard; and he was Voidstar's brother. They look alike, but have totally different personalities.
She thought absently. The only similarities she could imagine between the two toms were looks and the same ability to make their eyes cold and ruthless. Voidstar was a great leader, though. He led the clan through a lot. He was still young, too, so he would continue to lead TempestClan for a long time. But what would happen when he passed away? Who would lead? Well, obviously the deputy, Dreamfeather, would. But who would she choose to be deputy? Mintpaw's paws began to tingle with the thought. She didn't want Voidstar to die, but Mintpaw would be a full grown warrior by the time Dreamfeather was Dreamstar, hopefully. Perhaps she would choose Mintpaw for deputy! Excitement began buzzing through the she-cat until a realization struck her. What if Dreamfeather passed away before Voidstar? Depending on how long it would be, Mintpaw might not be eligible for deputy. Her happiness decreasing slightly, the she-cat gave herself a mental shake. How could she be thinking about the death of her leader and deputy at a time like this, while on patrol? How could she be thinking about it at all!
A wave of shame and horror passed through the tabby as she tried to focus on Blackshard. She had sensed Dreamfeather's nervousness, and Mintpaw knew that the black tom was dangerous. Why was Dreamfeather trusting her with such responsibility? Suddenly wishing Badgerlight were there, Mintpaw watched as the deputy broke her pace and slowed down, falling only a slight paces ahead of Mintpaw. Their eyes met, and for a moment, Mintpaw caught her thoughts. She was telling Mintpaw it was okay. Her confidence re-ignited, the she-cat gave a slight nod and held her head high. Blackshard wouldn't dare try anything. Would he? Then, the tabby she-cat scented another cat. Disappointment pricking her pelt as she realized it wasn't her mentor, Badgerlight, she tried to be happy anyways. It was another warrior, hopefully one who would help her guard Blackshard. Spotting the dark, rustled fur of Emberblade, Mintpaw's confidence ignited once more. Emberblade was a good warrior, surely he would help her.
The apprentice watched and listened to the exchange between the newest addition to the patrol and the deputy. She was beginning to think the tom was going to stay with Dreamfeather, but then he padded up beside her, making her feel okay again. She saw the look on his face as he realized the tension between her and the black tom. "I, ah.. is everything alright? Did I stumble in at an odd time?" He said, stumbling in the beginning. Her fur beginning to lay flat, the apprentice shook her head no. "Just patrolling as usual."
|
She said, looking at Emberblade. She hoped her eyes sent the message clearer than her voice. She was thankful that Blackshard wasn't looking, because her look was pleading. Stay with me! It cried. The apprentice didn't want to be left alone with the black tom anymore. Even though Dreamfeather was right there, the tabby she-cat felt strangely isolated when she was with Blackshard. Perhaps it was mystery that shrouded around him, about him and his origin, and his connection to the TempestClan leader. Paws aching, the she-cat flicked her ears and focused on forward, one eye on the black tom. × × × × × × × × × × × × × × × && I am sweet but deadly ~

Shard chuckled inwardly at the conflict he had stirred in Dreamfeather’s head. He could tell she wanted to get rid of him so everything would be simple for her again but he wasn’t planning on going anywhere because it was already too late. She had become a hopeless victim of his sick little mind games only too easily and it would be his pleasure to continue to mess with her head until further notice. It was only a matter of time before she gave up, either she would go crying to Voidstar or she would give in to him. Secretly he hoped the latter would happen.
At her warning he could barely contain himself and so a cunning grin broke out across his maw. ”Or what?” He retorted swiftly, his tail lashing once and his eyes narrowing at the prospect of a challenge. He bounded forwards so he was in line with the two females and looked over his shoulder at them. ”What are you really going to do to me Dreamfeather?” He asked and evil chuckle rolling from his tongue. He just couldn’t help himself sometimes. He wanted to push everyone over the edge. He wanted them to get angry, slip up, and attack him. In return he wanted to crush them, he wanted to feel the sensation of his claws sinking into the throat of another again but he had to keep himself under control. However, before he could say anything more he was interrupted by a rustle coming from the undergrowth.
Oh that was just perfect, another cat for him to wind up. He watched the new arrival through narrowed eyes and dared him to say anything against him. Maybe a tom cat would dare to fight with him but if they were wise they wouldn’t. He shook his head in frustration to get rid of the thoughts, yet again he had let himself think about fighting and blood being spilled. There was no way he was going to last. Although it wasn’t long before the tom started to question things. ”An odd time? Why of course not.” He purred silkily. His eyes glittered mischievously as he met the gaze of the newcomer. ”I don’t believe I know who you are though?” He asked politely putting his best charming grin forward. He would fool them. He would fool them all. After all he was Shard and he was a master at mind tricks and being manipulating if he was being modest.
Lucky for him his words had also been confirmed by Mintpaw so the new cat had nothing to be suspicious of, well he did really but hopefully he would think otherwise. Looking to the sky thoughts rolled through his head. He wanted to play with their heads a little and make them have every right to be scared of him but then again he didn’t want to actually do anything that would confirm their fear and suspicion of him. ”So what are we doing anyway? Attacking strange cats we come across?” He asked hopefully with a fake hint of youthful excitement in his tone at the prospect of attacking a cat.

* DREAMFEATHER
I'm at war with the world 'Cause I ain't never gonna sell my soul
Or what? The rogue asked her, gazing at her with vile amber eyes. She felt oddly oblivious to danger at that moment, her own eyes glittering with hatred again, as she stared back. Dreamfeather choked back the threat that was more of a prologue for what was to come than a few words, though, when she heard the movement of another cat.
It was Emberblade. If Starclan is to be thanked for this, then fine, thank starclan. Dreamfeather decided rather gravely, casting her vivid blue eyes on the newcomer. As he mentioned that he hoped she would forgive him for being late, the deputy simply nodded in response. Her silver coat prickled with being out on patrol with just a young apprentice and Blackshard, whether she thought she could handle it or not. She was quite glad to see the tom show up, late for replacing Badgerlight or not. Meeting his brilliant green lights, she spoke. "Of course. Everything is fine, Emberblade. Glad that you could join us." Her voice remained as steady as ever, and she seemed perfectly at ease. She was not one to get angry with Tempestclan warriors as it was, though she could have a temper if they got on her nerves. A simple mistake, however, such as the older warrior joining them late, was easily forgiven. She would probably make the same mistake, herself, if she wasn't deputy. If Blazepaw hadn't died... And Russet hadn't betrayed us... And Littlebreeze hadn't gotten so sick... Well, then, everything would be different. Wouldn't it? Her mind usually didn't wander so much. It was the things she had dreamed lately. They had messed with her mind. Hopefully Voidstar hadn't noticed, and thought that she was distracted from her position as deputy; she certainly wasn't. If anything, she was more focused on that... and more distracted from herself. Hmmm. Perhaps she really had been stricken by the moon, had gotten moon madness, watching Shard's mate all of those nights before her death. She could be losing her mind and not even know it. What a foolish thing that would be. It's much too soon to wind up an old, crazy idiot.
Having no insight on the apprentice's thoughts at the given moment, Dreamfeather's gaze lingered for a moment on those of the newest addition to the patrol. As Mintpaw, having seemingly picked up on some of the deputy's casual tone, explained that they were just patrolling, she watched for Emberblade's look of disbelief, or any noticeable changes in expression. He seemed to know something was up, but then, any cat could, with Blackshard present. What a poisonous tom. He makes an evening with Hailghost taste like honey. "And, Emberblade, it would be helpful if you could take up the rear." She meowed, breaking the silence. She gazed at the darkly colored warrior a moment longer, her voice not betraying that she wanted Emberblade to keep an eye on Blackshard, before taking the lead again. Of course, they couldn't just pad along, nearly to the borderline, in silence. Voidstar's brother had to speak again, but this time, she barely flinched, having numbed to the situation. "We're checking to see if any cats from other clans have crossed the border." The silver bengal responded evenly, trusting Emberblade to watch the tom as she led the way through the territory.

They were all acting weird, especially that rogue, and Emberblade couldn't help but feel uneasy, too. It was odd having someone looking in from the outside, getting an insight to their deepest, darkest secrets and feelings, and the obsidian tom seemed to actually be enjoying it in a sick, twisted way. Just the thought made the warrior shudder, and his eyes clamped shut for a moment as the other tom replied before anyone else could. Eyes flying open at the sound of Blackshard's sickeningly cool voice, he couldn't restrain the narrowing of his eyes this time.
Shooting a glare at the male outsider, Emberblade then turned to Dreamfeather and nodded. "Right, then.
He replied, smiling a bit at the lovely silver femme and the young tabby. " I'm glad to be here as long as you ladies are here for to keep my company. The swarthy, long-haired tom replied smoothly, letting a touch of friendly affection enter his voice and allowing it to exit just as quickly as it had come. ' You're an outsider, Shard .' Emberblade added silently to his statement, still unnerved by the tom. When Blackshard spoke once more, Emberblade found himself snapping a retort before he'd even thought it through. " Why don't we keep it that way?" His voice colder than his typical icy approach to things. Blinking, he almost uttered a quick apology when he realized to whom the words were addressed. ' No way in hell I'm going to take that back.' The tom mused, a half-smile flickering across his maw before falling back to a state of neutrality. " And, Emberblade, it would be helpful if you could take up the rear." Dreamfeather more ordered than suggested, and the tom obliged, but not before he endured her gaze for just a moment too long. Yes, something was up, alright, and it had to be Blackshard. Jerking his head down abruptly in a quick, subtle nod, the tom slipped behind the patrol and followed the cats onward toward the border, his paws picking up moisture from the ground below. Looking around him with eyes glowing, he wordlessly glowered at the other tom in the patrol, willing him to act out so that Emberblade might have a reason to forcefully restrain him. Overcome by his sudden malice, the tom blinked, shook his head, and glanced over to Mintpaw. " So, since your mentor bailed on the patrol, I might as well take his role for now. Mintpaw, what can you scent here?" The tom asked, taking a chance to help educate the youngest member of the patrol. The slightest metallic twang of twoleg items hit his nostrils, and Emberblade was more than certain that the young femme would be able to scent it. But, underlying the sharp scent was a warm one from that of a vole. Would the apprentice appear to be well taught afterall?[/blockquote][/blockquote]

At least now she had back up, if Shard tried anything. Would he really, though? The little tabby apprentice didn't think so, but she couldn't be one hundred percent positive. The loner was dangerous, that was for sure. She didn't know if it was his own brother who had sent him on this patrol, or if it was some crazy notion on Dreamfeather's behalf. Either way, it was a pretty stupid move, but Mintpaw would never say so. It was not her place to speak, not yet, anyway. She had dreams of one day being leader, but she knew that as a female leader, deputy, or medicine cat you could not have kits, and Mintpaw was a kind, caring she-cat with a lot of compassion; the ideal mother. She always liked the idea of a mate, and with a mate came kits, usually. Sighing internally, the light brown tabby shook off her dark thoughts and proceeded forward, padding onward with the patrol.
That is, until Emberblade asked herself. "Uhm..." |
She began by accident, not meaning to let that slip out. She parted her jaw, tasting for scents. "I can scent a mouse, stale dog, and an old trail of squirrel." She replied, frowning. There had to be more. Perhaps the current scents had masked them? There was also another scent she couldn't identify, but she was only an apprentice, so she would be corrected. It was normal, after all, for apprentices to make mistakes, they were in the process of being trained, so they weren't expected to be perfect. Were they? Suddenly doubting the confidence she had only just displayed moments ago in her mind, Mintpaw let her tail droop a little bit, nervousness pricking her paws. She slid her gaze to Shard, keeping an eye on him while proceeding with the patrol. Would Emberblade scent the unknown scent? If so, would he scold her? [/style] [style=background-color:#50896C; color:#c1c6bb; font-family:ms gothic; font-size:10px; line-height:10px; margin-bottom:-1px; margin-left:30px; text-align:center; text-transform:uppercase; width:443]I WONT HAVE MY MELODIES ECHOING OFF OF THESE STONE WALLS[/style] [style=border-top:1px dotted; font-size:9px; line-height:9px; margin-bottom:10px; margin-left:30px; text-align:center; width:443] [/style]

We fight to live, we live to fight, tonight you'll hear my battle cry The large paws of the black tom were itching to hear the retort coming from Dreamfeather’s mouth. He wanted to know what she would really do about him and what she actually thought she could do to get rid of him because from where he stood it appeared to be very little. She wasn’t leader yet and that meant she still had to listen to Voidstar and the leader couldn’t bring himself to turn his long lost brother away. He could see it already, them having a beautiful friendship together and then there would be Dreamfeather with her fur bristling at the sidelines. It was too bad she got distracted by the rustling of the foliage, he was just dying to hear what she had to say.
These Tempestclan cats were so paranoid though. He could tell by the way they were forcing themselves to try and have a normal conversation even though they were all ready to turn and confront him. Rolling his eyes he trotted on his own a fox length away from the others which allowed him to explore a little more which included him scenting new objects and sliding under unfamiliar bushes. In a way he felt like a kit again, just getting used to what would be his home for the rest of his life. That was until everything went haywire but that had probably been for the best. Now he has back, he was bad, and Dreamfeather would be in a lot of trouble if she touched his glossy black pelt with her claws. This meant he could mess with her head until his heart was content, well the black hole where his heart used to be.
Shard purred with childish amusement. ”Ok I think I will call you grumpy.” He growled, his amber eyes sparkling. ”I am perfectly happy to keep it that way, but I’m not the one spoiling the fun.” He added, his eyes quickly narrowing as he growled at the other tom. If he wanted to battle out this whole dominance thing then he was game, then again he could probably see Dreamfeather joining them on that one. She probably thought she had more balls than the two of them put together. Oh how he hadn’t had this much fun in moons. Admittedly he was acting like a total goon but chances were his light hearted mood would be gone soon so it was best to take advantage of it while it was still there.
He chuckled again as Emberblade dropped back to talk to the little one, showing off his fangs. Padding over to Dreamfeather’s side he grinned. ”Now you get to walk with me – lucky you.” He purred. He glanced over his shoulder with a look that would turn even a dog to stone just daring Emberblade to interrupt. ”Riiiight, but when we find a cat that has crossed the border do we get to attack them then?” He asked making it obvious that he was itching to find someone to attack. Surely his logic made sense though, cat crosses into territory that isn’t theirs – they die.

* DREAMFEATHER
I've already made up my mind | No matter what, I can't be bought or sold
She realized her mistake as Emberblade hung back with Mintpaw, and thus she was forced to keep company with Blackshard. For better or for worse, she was now all his for companionship on this patrol. She settled herself mentally, noting that there would be no petty fighting with murders on patrol. Fine, Shard, play your game; but just remember that you're nothing more than a tool for Tempestclan, whether you'll allow yourself to be or not, in the end. She would have much rather walked with Emberblade, who seemed to have sense and good humor. But she was resigned to her fate now, so she may as well make it fun for her, since Blackshard seemed to be having such a good time. There was no easy way to spoil his fun, because he thought he had her in a vulnerable position. Fine, then. She would allow herself to be played, and keep her poker face, and then Dreamfeather would have to see who had the last laugh. What did it matter really, though? We both know that it won't make any difference what he does, because it's been done before.
And so she smiled pleasantly, and carried on walking at an even speed, making no effort to leave his side. It was odd though, her smile. She hadn't managed to look genuinely happy in quite a while, was rarely caught off guard, but this one looked half plausible. It wasn't an uncomfortable pleasantness, just one that might easily turn into a grimace if given half the chance. Dreamfeather wouldn't let it, though. That would betray her purposes. "Wouldn't that be lucky you?" She responded with flippant ease, tail swishing along behind her. She wanted to convey a relaxed air to those behind her, getting in a bit of training. The silver bengal didn't notice the deadly look he gave Emberblade, being in no position to turn back and look. She was the patrol leader, and she let herself be only a step ahead of him, the two walking side by side as if they were old friends. At his question, her blue eyes remained ahead, trained on something moving in the brush. She didn't bother to look back as she answered, "Yes, if any cat wrongly crosses our border we must ask them to state their business, and it's possible that we will attack them to drive them away and put a scare into them." It didn't matter if she explained about their not attacking medicine cats, or cats who might be waiting at their own border for a patrol to speak with. If they ran into any cat, he would surely attack. [/blockquote]
