Feel the rapid rain against your pelt, it feels good sometimes...
Rapidrain sought through the waters. How long had it been since the frost had been gone? How long since the last time she had seen the sun? It seemed only to long, and now as she ran under the bushes and through the frostbitten roots she could finally see it. It was great to see it again, great to hear that Newleaf was coming again. Leafbare had been harsh, as it always had, and she hated the rain. But now the clan could be well fed again. Thats why she was here to begin with, to hunt. So far it had been a decent hunt. One squirrel, yes it was only one but she had only been hunting for only a few. To her it was just as a successful hunt as one with three fresh mice. At least a couple of elders would be fed.
The surroundings around her then changed. The forest areas turned to a swift hills and a meadow. She would be surprised not to find any mice here, especially after these days. The hard days of Leafbare had made almost anything leave, but now that the sun was out again, and frost was slowly leaving the ground, they could return once again. They didn't have to leave, they weren't forced to. But due to the changes in weather, like the cats, they had been near starvation. The clan though, being better, could stand through it better then they could. And because of that, Celestialclan had survived past it, working together was really the only option though.
Rapidrain then decided it was time to start scenting again. She had been walking for a long time, as if she really wasn't on a hunt. But now she had to, in order to feed more members of the clan. She wasn't the best, but she wasn't the worse either. To her there really was no difference, you still had to hunt to get food for the clan. Herself though, she was a better fighter. And those days did come, and thats when she just like any was needed. Thinking back through her thoughts, she still remembered of that river she fell in. Her and her brother. Only she had survived, but maybe for a reason. When she died, she would be with him in Starclan. Rapidrain rose her nose from the position it was. She breathed in a heavy and long breath, taking in all the smells. She was happy to find that one was indeed that of a mouse, and a very close one too.
She continued on, making her body lower and following the scent with secrecy. Cats were great with that, always have been. She brought back her memories of hunt, making sure she did everything. It had only been recently that she became a Warrior, and soon she would get her own Apprentice. It wouldn't be for moons, but it would be short enough and she was patient anyways. A couple of steps went by and she stepped on a pile of pure frost and grass. The surrounding grass had been heated enough to melt a bit, but it was just this spot that had not been in sunlight yet that morning. She sighed, going on till the mouse was in view.
Up the hill she saw its tiny body, working up the hill slowly. Hills were hard enough to walk up, but one with ice? Definitely hard, so she decided, again, to wait until the mouse was all the way up. Then it hit her, what about going around and down the hill? It would be faster, but with one quick swoop the catch would be quite easy. Though if she did go up, and pounce downward she would have a tough time landing, still it was better then up.
Taking her steps lightly she turned around, heading under some of the bushes and using the tall grass as her shield. She also went to wards the sun, the way the wind was going, so the mouse didn't accidental catch her scent also. She knew for one thing that they had horrible noses. How many of those tiny creatures had she caught? Too many to count. Those dumb things, although she still thanked Starclan for them. The grass beneath became subtle, and she felt the wind seize. She stopped taking a look at the mouse which was now moving back down. She muttered something, going straight to wards it. Moving swiftly she caught just enough distance to take a break, then pounce as soon as she was ready. Her front left paw went up, and next her back left to level with her right so she was just in the right position. Her mentor taught her well, and she used her knowledge greatly. Taking the opportunity, she leapt, front feet eye level, and the mouse down below. Her body weight bent her downwards, and her maw opened, snatching in its tiny body. Her front legs cuaght the ground in a swift movement, then her back. But right when her back legs touched she felt one slip under another pile of frost and grass. Her hip fell and shequickly recovered before twisting anything else. Feeling her ankle she noticed it had been twisted to much. Pain came in swiftly enough but it wasn't enough to stop her and the hunt.
She felt the mouse in her maw and quickly realized that she had fell to fast for her to kill it. She crushed her jaws together and felt a snap. Not caring much she lifted her back right leg, twisting the ankle a bit and hearing a small pop. It still hurt, but it was only a small pain amount. She smiled, happy of her catch and returning to her pile.
