Shadowy threads of his hot breath weaved their way around the cavernous area below the lake. Dewstar shivered uncontrollably. What could I say? The tom was nervous. Nervous out of his mind. So many things were running through his head it was hard for him to think clearly. It would hurt, it would be sad, it would be happy. The tom swallowed back the intruding thoughts that rattled through his mind and he shook his pelt. He swallowed for real and sighed. He supposed he should fall take a drink of the sweetly tasting water and curl up along the moss covered wall of the small enclosure, but..he was scared. He didn't know what he was getting himself into.
"Well, lets get this over with," the tom mumbled to himself, sliding slowly to his white furred paws. He carried himself slowly but carefully. He sniffed in the sweet smelling air and shivered once more. He took one lap of the water before him and watched the ripples caress the surface of the pool. How silvery-blue it glowed that night. He sighed and carried himself to a small nest of cool, green moss and curled up into a tight ball, awaiting StarClan to fill his mind, soul, and body.
At first it was dark. The leader couldn't see anything, couldn't smell anything, and seemed to afraid to move. Oh. He hadn't opened his eyes. That was it. Dewstar opened his eyes and gasped. It was so..normal. So starry, but everything looked so normal. It looked like it was greenleaf in StarClan and the tom wondered if they even had seasons up in the stars. He sat patiently with his tail curled around his paws for the starry-pelted cats that walked the lands that always laid above him.
A group of cats arrived. A group of nine cats. There were some cats he knew and others he didn't recognize. Oh, how happy he was to see his father! The young ton bounded toward his father and stood happily in front of him, ignoring the other cats completely. He let out a joyous purr and stared at his father. Oh, he was just as he remembered! His sleek pelt, now glittered with what seemed like tiny diamonds. No traces of his battle wound that had killed him as a senior warrior remained.
He didn't want to rub up against him, but the leader stared into his fathers eyes. When his father spoke, his eyes shone. "Congratulations, my son. You have become the leader of ZephyrClan," his voice echoed around the clearing. It was then that Dewstar noticed his mother sitting behind his father with the same gentle smile on her face that seemed to have always been on her maw. Every day. Good or bad, she always had that smile on her face. He continued focusing on his father though, who seemed to be the one to give him his first life. Everything up here..or wherever he was, seemed so businesslike, so he put on a straight face.
"Son, with this life I give you the strength to become a leader." After that, he heard no more. A searing pain shot through every part of his body. He wanted to cry out in pain but he knew better than that. He had to be strong. He saw visions of previous battle that had been won and that have been lost.
