Aquapaw walked down the tunnel below the lake. Like she was going to a gathering. She wondered what it would feel like, to become a proper medicine cat. She imagined it to be wonderful. And once she was a medicine cat... maybe someone would want to be her apprentice? She would love to teach another cat what she knew. But wouldn't she be too young? Would they wait a bit before giving her one? She wouldn't mind eaither was, she was so exite just for now!
She stopped as she came to the other tunnel that branched off from the gathering one. She couldn't beleive it. She was going to meet starclan and get her new name. She couldn't suprass the pang of guilt that swept through her. She was so happy about the medicine cat ceremony she had temporarly forgoten about Deergrace. She had died, and thats why Aquapaw was here. And Deergrace should be the one stood next to her, to present her to starclan. To choose her name.
She padded quickly down the tunnel, the darkness slightly getting to her. She didn't want to be in the tunnel very long. She wanted to get to the spring as quickly as possible. She gasped when she saw it. She had been here once before, when becoming the medicine cat apprentice. But she had forgotten how beautiful it was. The water underpaw reflected the shimering moss by its side. She smiled and padded next to the moss. She really wanted Vividstar here but she had to stay outside, this was medicine cats only.
She lapped up some water and sat upon the moss. She rested her head upon her paws and waited for the dreams, to see starclan once more. Their shining pelts and glowing eyes. They saw everthing and made the cats lives safe. She couldn't wait to see them. Darkness engulfed her vision and she smiled as she fell asleep quietly.
She opened her eyes. She was sat in the middle of the great cavern that was used for Gatherings. There was no-one in there. Sh was confused. She couldn't remember how it had started... a dull glow began and suddenly the cats of starclan had surrounded her. Some old, some yound. Some that she could recognise. Her mother was one, Crystalshard, her white pelt almost blinding. There was Ghoststar, and Larkstar. Everyone!
Aquapaw was suprised to see Deergrace, well not to see her. But to know she was sat to the side of her. Deergrace was going to complete the ceremony even though she was dead? That was great! She put her head upon her former mentors flank, "I've missed you," she mumured to her. She had, she could remember the days she had spent with her, learing and talking.
Deergrace stepped forward, "I, Deergrace, former medicine cat of CelestialClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the way of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her clan for many moons. Aquapaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from clan rivalry between clan and clan, and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
Aquapaw looked up at her with her bright blue eyes shining, "I do," She replied, exitement running through her.
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Aquapaw, from this moment you will be known as Aquasplash. StarClan honors your faith and knowlege. You will do well, my apprentice." Deergrace said, then rested her muzzle upon Aquasplash's shoulder. Aquasplash licked it respectfully.
Aquasplash closed her eyes happily, "Thank you," She said to Deergrace, "For everything,"
The glow around her dimmed and she opened her eyes once more to find herself inside the small cavern. The water beside her making a slight bubling noise. She was a medicine cat! She jumped up from the moss, and sped out of the tunnel. She was a medicine cat. SHE WAS A MEDICINE CAT! Now she and Vividstar would return to camp.
