and i walk alone
WREATHEDMOON
WREATHEDMOON
He was completely and utterly alone. You know what sucked about being completely and utterly alone? You thought. You thought about all the things you were about to go through. The responsibility, chance of dying(multiple times though), being alive longer than those you loved, oh how this list of cons could go on. He wasn't ready for this yet. Wreathedmoon was indeed, not ready at all and he knew it. The cold weight of dread began swelling in his stomach, slowly taking over his whole body until he was completely numb. Mr. Wreathy didn't really have enough experience, but he had to brave it out anyway. Why? Because there was a clan that depended on him. And guess who else was in that clan? Harvestmoon. She wouldn't admit it but he knew that a small part of her did depend on him and that made all the difference. Larkstar would be watching him from somewhere up in that indigo colored sky, shaking her head or nodding. It all depended on the choice he made. The she-cat mewed in monotone, creamy brown fur shifting directions as a slight breeze entered the hollow place. He shivered, the feeling lasting longer than it should have, and not from the wind either. He hated to show vulnerability. "Y-yes." Wreathedmoon hated that stutter, and winced slightly. "It is not unusual to feel nervous. I myself felt the same way. My name is Rhaphsodystar, and I was ZephyrClan leader before your parents were even in existence. I will be giving you your first life." Her red tinted eyes sparkled slightly as she stepped forward, "With this life, I give you physical strength." Rhaphsodystar mewed, and Wreathy was slightly surprised that this dainty she-cat was giving him that life. She touched her nose to the upper part of his skull, and suddenly he got something he was not expecting. A jolt of pain unimaginable pain shot through his body. But, oh, it did not just last a mere second, or a minute, it lasted for what seemed like a moon. Even longer. It started at his tail, and slowly worked its way up his muscular bodice, ending in his head as it felt he would implode. Then, it ended. Rhaphsodystar stepped back, then turned around and padded away as if nothing happened.
Choices. Too many choices. Right, wrong. Good, bad. Wise, unwise. Again, the list was never-ending. Right now, he could chose not to live and just give it all up. His clan, his life, and his friends. And Havestmoon. But was it really worth it? To give up all the responsibility because he made the wrong choice? No. It wasn't worth it and Wreathedmoon knew that. He knew it all too well. Larkstar would never forgive him when he entered StarClan. Heck, she'd find a way to send him back so he'd have to live out that life! And she'd make sure it was harder! Choices, choices, so many choices.
But there was not question anymore, because he turned. Yes, he went down that path. Rather than going down the usual path towards the Gathering place, he had to take the alternative. The path to the pool where he'd drink and meet StarClan. (And get his nine lives). No matter how much he wanted to deny it, he was afraid. Wreathedmoon, the strong and handsome, was drop-dead scared. What was it like to receive nine lives? Did it hurt? But that remained a secret. When Larkstar had returned, she acted as if none of this had ever happened and she was merely returning from a hunting trip. On the contrary, she had changed. There was a certain vibe about her that was different. Wiser, stronger, more responsible, reliable, tough. Oh those were just a few of the things that changed. Even her appearance changed. The gleam of her blue eyes, the roughness of her pelt, the scars, the starlight seemed to be caught in it when light hit it just the right way.
Then Wreathedmoon saw it, that sparkling pool. Now, not for one second did he think about turning back. He didn't think about his anxiety. Nor did the tom have any regret whatsoever. It was as if the fear melted away to leave a surge of strength and bravery. He straightened, blue pools of eyes staring straight ahead at the sparkling pool. With slow, strong steps, he let each rough pad hit the ground before bending down to the clear water. The pink tongue emerged from his muzzle, lapping up a sip of the cold, clear water and it seemed a shock went through his body. Eyes slowly closed, and he faded fast, before he knew it, Wreathedmoon was out.
Blackness. It was as if the world had ended as he knew it. As if he was submerged, never to return again. Then, his soft blue eyes opened once again and he was awake. The starry ancestors surrounded him on all sides, pelts seemed to be omitting shimmering light and the sight was completely breathtaking. A quick intake of breath and Wreathedmoon stood up and padded confidently to the cats. His gaze swept the clearing for any familiar felines and he saw the one femcat he had wanted to see the most, his sister, Divinegrace. She winked at him and mouthed, Wreathy, I'm so proud of you! Wreathedmoon smiled back and turned to the cat in front. Larkstar. He dipped his skull in a gentlemanly manner to her, drawing his paw slightly upward in a respectful manner.
They locked eyes for a moment, his blue orbs shining with the reflection of the starry hosts in front of him. Pity swelled inside of him as he saw felines that were quite young; some even kits that weren't even one moon old yet. Wreathedmoon turned back as a cat approached him, a she-cat and by the looks of it, had lived a long and joyous life. Oh, of coarse it had its many hardships but that's what made you stronger. The corners of his jaw twitched slightly as he began to contemplate what was about to happen. The she-cat showed no sign of noticing his movement other than a slight shift in her orbs.
"Wreathedmoon. We have awaited your arrival. Are you ready to receive your nine lives?"
Oh StarClan how will I last eight more of these! Wreathy thought, restraining himself from wincing or showing weakness. He was a rock. No, he was the rock. And he wouldn't back down and step back, he'd stand firm. Then came Everpaw, an apprentice he had known when he was young. She had died rather tragically as the clan was attack and was dropped off the side of the cliff as she had grown unconscious. She gave him a contemplating look, her eyes searching his for something the he could not think of. Everpaw stepped forward, a slight bounce in her step that he remembered, she was always energetic. Wreathedmoon gave a half smile, to nervous to pop one of his charming grins. "Ever. I've missed you." He whispered, but she acted as if he said nothing. Wreathedmoon frowned, wandering why they had to act so jerky. "With this life I give you compassion for those you love, the ability to give up your all for those around you. And not always your Clan." She stretched her tiny neck and rested her head on his left shoulder, and this life wasn't so bad. It was like Wreathedmoon was sleeping, that peace that usually came upon you when you were asleep. His orbs drifted closed and he basked in it. But suddenly, the feeling of his energy draining away shot through his body quickly. It seemed he had absolutely no energy left and the energy seeped out until he felt he would die, literally. Then she stepped back, allowing the next cat to come.
This time a tom padded forward, and Wreathedmoon recognized him as Taintedcharm, one of his close friends. It was quite a shame to lose him in the battle with MaliceClan. He opened his jaw to say something, but closed it again as he decided it wasn't worth wasting his breath. "With this life, I give you hope. To know that at the end of the dark tunnel there is a light. To go on just for that light and lead everyone you love into the light." The tom who had previously been quite depressed, seemed to be quite content with his life now. He pressed a sharp claw softly to Wreathedmoon's shoulder and closed his eyes to allow the life to flow into him. This life wasn't too bad, the pain was bearable. It felt as if his limbs were tired and weary, then he felt the physical strength come back and Wreathy blinked and Taintedcharm had disappeared into the crowd.
Then came another she-cat, whom Wreathedmoon could not recognize. She padded lightly towards him with a dashing grin, looking as careless as if she was going to play around with a friend. "Greetings, Wreathedmoon, I am Ivoryfate, you may remember me as the queen that raised you; you may not. Anyhow, I am here to give you your fourth live." Ivoryfate lifted her scarred muzzle and pressed her nose to his and muttered, "With this life, I give you the love and fierceness of a queen who protects her kits." The haughty Wreathy imagined this life to be soft, with a slight bitterness. But what he felt was much worse, much worse than any of the live he had received. It felt like claws were raking up and down his flank, his skull pounded again a rock, and his claws being ripped out. He braced his shoulders, ready to endure the pain even if he wanted to collapse on the ground and sob with all his might. And that was a disturbing thought for him because, well, Wreathedmoon wanted to always be strong. No matter the cost. Then Ivoryfate was gone, just like that.
A large, muscular tom emerged from the starry felines, he sauntered across the clearing proudly, carrying himself confidently. Wreathedmoon recognized him as his father, but couldn't smile. He kept a straight face, not wanting to get distracted and yowl, 'Daddy!' That would be absolutely ridiculous and dumb. "I shall give you two lives, for I have two gifts to give you, young one." The scarred-looking tom touched his jaw to Wreathedmoon's ear and held it there. "With this life, I give you guidance from StarClan, so that you may always look to us when having to make hard choices." A comforting feeling filled Wreathedmoon, like a warm Green-leaf breeze was blowing itself through his brown color fur and the strength ebbed into him. Wreathy sighed softly, then opened his eyes as his father spoke again, "With the sixth life, I give you happiness and contentment, so that you shall always find something good no matter the consequence. So that in the worst of situations you will stay positive and support those around you. Your clan can depend on you when they need to perk up." It then felt as if the weight of the world dropped on his shoulders, that every cats needs, burdens, and wounds planted themselves on him. Wreathedmoon opened his maw to cry out in pain, but the noise wouldn't come out. He was frozen, suffering the losses and problems of others. When Wreathedmoon was beyond the point that he was about to fade, it was done. He sighed in relief but then realized there were two more lives. And the last life would for sure be the worst.
Then he saw her; his best friend. Dawnsoul. when she had died, he'd felt unimaginable pain and didn't know what to do. She had known him like no other, except probably Havestmoon now. He locked eyes with her and tried to express all his feelings and show that he had truely appreciated and loved her like a littermate. "Wreathy, I knew you'd be here someday. I told you I'd be there every step of the journey, and I am." She smiled, and he couldn't resist grinning back. "With the seventh life, I give you love, pure love to protect and care for those who need you." Dawnsoul was strongly implying Harvestmoon and Wreathy shuffled his paws and lowered his head for her. With this life, came no pain, but an unexplainable feeling but it felt wonderful. "Dawnsoul, please, I need you to help me through this. Don't just leave me again." Wreathedmoon mewed in a begging voice, and she nodded slowly, giving him a lasting look before she left.
Now for the last life, the big cheese. Wreathy thought to himself with a grimace. He hated to admit it, but he was afraid. But excited at the same time. Larkstar padded out, with her glowing aurora. They locked eyes for a very long time, or maybe it was short. He didn't know. She padded forward, starlight seemed to be bursting from her pelt and she looked as if she could kill a hundred MaliceClans alone. "Wreathedmoon. I know you will be a wonderful leader. Here is your last and final life. With this last life, I sum up everything and give you my all. Here is wisdom, love, fierceness, and everything that you need. Be a wonderful leader, make me prouder than I already am." This life was horrid, he couldn't even explain the physical or emotional pain that shook him,, almost making him fall to the ground in pain and sob. Worse than any of them. It was like he was reliving all the pain she'd ever felt in her life, and all the pain all leaders had ever felt. Then it was completely done. She stepped back, eyes so proud, happy, and sparkling. Larkstar was expressing all her emotions with one look that made Wreathedmoon grin. It was over. Actually, it had just started.
The starry hosts gathered around him, and Larkstar, along with every other felines called, "Hail, the new leader of ZephyrClan. You have received your nine lives, and have been trained. We entrust you with the leadership of this clan. Bring all four clans out of the dark and redeem them. You shall know longer be known as Wreathedmoon and shall now be known as Wreathedstar." Wreathedmoon, no Wreathedstar couldn't believe what was happening, this was the moment he had been waiting for, he was finally there. "Wreathedstar! Wreathedstar! Wreathedstar!" They slowly faded away, until he was back into the blackness, contemplating what was happening and his new life.
Wreathedmoon, deputy of ZephyrClan had become Wreathedstar, leader of ZephyrClan. This was the beginning of a new and glorious age.
