The Mighty Hunters (Open + Riverpaw)

Laughing, Riverpaw replied to her mentor's joking "then the apprentices can be the ones to bring me squirrels! they can get chomped on!" Riverpaw ran ahead in a sudden burst of energy and pounced on a leaf that had been upset by the breeze. Then she flew back towards her mentor laughing. Reaching out she gently caught the end of his tail between her teeth as she rocketed past. She swung around in a lop and ran back at the tom before he had time to turn around. Taking a leap, she landed on his shoulders, but slippedto the side as a pain shot through her injured leg. She regained quickly, and laughed in Blackpanther's ear "ha, take that".

Blackpanther let out a chuckle as Riverpaw catch his tail and haulted him. When she pounced his him and knocked him over. He let out a laugh. He gently rolled her off him. He then laid on top of her. He looked down at the smaller cat and smiled. "I think I won!" Blackpanther purred.

He stood up and flickered her ear with his paw. "Come on youngster!" Blackpanther mewed. He ran on to explore the territory. As soon as he went into the bushes he climbed the nearest tree and laid on a branch. He was going to to see if Riverpaw could sense him.

Riverpaw gave a small squeak of surprise as Blackpanther shifted beneath her and rolled her off of him. Then he laid on her, pinning her small frame to the earth. "I think I won" he purred. Riverpaw glared back and growled in mock outrage.

Blackpanther stood, flicked her ear with a paw, and said “Come on Youngster!" then took off into the woods ahead of her; She laughed and waited a moment before following him.

As she walked through the new forest that was to be her temporary home, she took in all of the sights, sounds, and scents. Her eyes roamed over all of the small plants that were growing close to the ground, and all of the brown trunks of the trees that rose for what seemed like forever above her. All the way up to the dark green canopy that they formed with their thick skyward carpeting of leaves.

She walked a little way and then sat down curling her tail around her paws. Riverpaw opened her jaws just slightly, and a buffet of scents danced across the scent glands in the back of her mouth. The smell of live greenery, and wet earth, were all there very clear. Underneath that, there was the scent of small prey. It was lighter so it was farther off. Riverpaw smiled as she caught the scent of her mentor, he was VERY nearby. His scent was strong and familiar.

Riverpaw swiveled her ears around her in all directions taking in all the sounds. There was the scratching of the critter that was searching for food, the sound of bugs flitting to and fro going about their daily business. The wind whispering through the trees, and the birds sitting in their branches were all loud and clear, but there it was, the smallest of the sounds; the shifting of something that did not belong in the tree. Riverpaw looked up into the tree and it took only a second for her to spot the sleek black tom hidden in the branches of the tree. Riverpaw laughed to herself for a moment before calling up to him, "Hey Blackpanther, are you a warrior or a warbler?"

The sleek black tom purred as his apprentice came into sight. He watched her sit down and tasted the air. She was doing everything correctlty. She was a smart little fluffy ball, wasn't she. He shifted is weight a little and noticed Riverpaw catch it. She looked up at him and called out to him.

"Hey Blackpanther, are you a warrior or a warbler?"

He bunched up his muscle as he jumped off the branch and land next to Riverpaw. He landed with his weight equally balanced out. He stood back up and looked at Riverpaw. "I'd like to think I'm a warrior, otherwise a warbler is teaching you!" He began to head back the way they came. "Come on, let's head back."

Blackpanther padded the rest of the way to camp and let out a growl. It was in chaos. Every cat was up and moving, but not like normal. They looked happy, excited, nervous, and fearful. What is going on here. He heard some cats about moving. So they are moving on to a new home. "About time," Blackpanther mewed.

Riverpaw trotted beside her mentor on the way back to camp. The closer they got to the clearing though, the feeling in the air changed. It went from the cool, relaxed, quiet state of the forest to a feeling of chaos. As they got closer, the excitement and a tinge of fear practically hummed in the air as they made it to the entrance of the camp.

As Riverpaw poked her head through the tunnel, it was not hard at all to see where the distubance was coming from. Cats were everywhere, moving to and fro with different tasks, and in varying degrees of conversation. The words that seemed to be on everyones lips were "moving" and "journey".

"So we're going on a journey?" Riverpaw turned wide eyes to her mentor. She hoped that she was able to cover the fear that she felt so that it didn't show on her face. She took a deep breath to try and calm her jumping nerves. "When do we leave?"
