living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - As soon as the smoky coloured she-cat padded out of the Warriors Den, the crisp, cold air that engulfed Vertigoclan thumped into her rich senses. Her turquoise eyes glittered brightly, reflecting against the dripping snow –it was as if the sky was crying. As Birdsong padded out, the snow fell around her, drizzling onto her soft, cream coat. A small sigh escaped her muzzle, it was quiet and prey was scarce. Some found this weather too cold, but Birdsong found it fresh and soothing, soothing for her many memories. She sighed, looking down at her torso, licking it gently; smoothing away the thick fur that half covered the long scar that ran down the front of her body. Her eyes drooped down sadly, sometimes she wished that her father had been different, and that her mother had still been around, but life was never perfect. Birdsong pushed the thoughts out of her head and walked over to a bare tree, perching herself underneath it, she sat down, observing everything around her. She listened to the rare bird calling in the forest beyond; she also listened to the snoozing sounds of the cats in their den. She craved someone to talk to, someone to share her life with, someone who would understand her, but she never knew if that opportunity would come along, ever.
“If only” Birdsong muttered to herself, flicking her thick tail from side to side as she nestled against the bare tree trunk. Her turquoise eyes flickered up to the sky, she thought about her mother, who had died when she was a kit, along her other siblings. She craved to know who her family were, she only knew her vile father, just thinking about him made her stomach churn. Birdsong muttered and returned her eyes to the basis of the camp, maybe someone would wake up soon and come and see her?

His green-flecked blue gaze was bright in the grayish light that covered VertigoClan. Dark clouds covered the sky as a wintry mix came down on the cats that survived - and otherwise thrived - in one of the highest territories in the four Clans. Reflectedrain's tabby coat had filled out, and his thicker winter fur fluffed out to keep him warm. He'd since recovered from the letdown of not becoming deputy under Pyrestar and had resumed his typical duties as a warrior. Afterall, he still had his youth, and no cat could take that away from him. In fact, he had roused early, exploring the territory in the early morning light before the clouds had covered the sky and this odd snowy rain had begun to fall. Shaking it off as he returned to camp, the tom deposited two pieces of prey - a reddish squirrel who had been searching for their store of nuts and a vole who had wandered from its nest. Both were quite small, but VertigoClan would be fed one way or another, be it plump pieces of prey (he doubted it) or many, many small ones.
Turning about, he noticed a light sepia colored female, whose name was Birdsong. She trailed behind him in age by just a few moons, and if she had been born here, they would have shared a den twice before they became warriors. But seeing as she wasn't, he didn't know her very well at all, aside from her name and her pretty turquoise eyes. She was a pretty girl, but she was often a bit soft-spoken around him. Now, as he peered back at her, he offered her a half-smile to comfort the frown she had upon her face. Stepping closer, he padded his way over until he stood just a half a tail-length away. "Now what's the matter with Miss Birdsong?" Reflectedrain rumbled, his voice deeper than it had been just a few moons before. He smiled down at her, admiring her soft-colored pelt and how nicely it paired with her pretty eyes.
"You and me, we've got those odd eyes. We've gotta stick together, as silly as that sounds." Reflectedrain told her, grinning at her now, the tabby tom not able to contain himself. He was still so young, such a boy, he'd probably never be able to be serious for more than five whole minutes, but he was happy with himself and all that he had done and that was a good thing to be. "So, are you going to cheer up or do I have to take you out into the territory for me? I wouldn't mind the company." He mewed sweetly to her, and if he'd known her any better, he would have poked at her softly with his tabby forepaw.

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Birdsong blinked softly as the Tom padded up, “Good Morning Reflectedrain” Birdsong’s eyes smiled as she listened to him, “Nothing is the matter!” she said softly, but her eyes quickly stuck to the floor, “I was just thinking” she sighed softly. “Thinking about things that don’t matter anymore” she pulled her eyes up from the floor, blinking slowly beneath the Tom. She breathed in quietly, taking in his mature scent which instantly overwhelmed her, fresh and soft yet feisty at the same time. He was moons older than her, not too many, but he was high ranked in Vertigoclan. Birdsong couldn’t help but smile “We do have odd eyes don’t we? But they are pretty eyes” she smiled, “Some might think you’re a bit … cute” she let out a small giggle as she stood up, stretching. She leaped forward gracefully, “Fancy a run in the forest, I need to stretch my legs” she grinned, “We could call it a patrol if you want it to sound fancy-pansy” she grinned even further. The she-cat padded towards the entrance to the den, charmingly flicking her tail from side to side. Birdsong didn’t want to let on that on the inside she was still hurt; she had never truly gotten over what had happened those many moons ago. But for now, a fake, plastic smile would do. Maybe if someone knew her well enough, they would understand, but no one did, they just thought she was a normal warrior that had been born into a different clan. Birdsong briefly ducked her head down, turning back, “Are you coming, or are you going to stand there all day and wait for the squirrels and voles to catch themselves?” her eyes dazzled.

She was such a pretty creature, but wounded, that much he could tell. It wasn't just on the interior, for he eyed her chest carefully, spotting what appeared to be a scar. He winced, but quickly regained his emotional gusto, his smile only fading for a single moment. He bent down to look at her face as she hid it, expressing herself with sigh. "It still matters if it's upsetting you, don't tell lie to yourself like that." Reflectedrain mewed, inspecting her face with a smile. As she called their eyes pretty, he straightened up, puffing out his chest. "Of course we're pretty -" He started, choking on his words as she called him cute. His eyes widened, and he stared down at her with surprise, an audible intake of air vibrating on both their eardrums as he nearly choked again.
His face grew hot, but his dark pelt allowed him to hide their heat, and his ears burned. He wasn't embarrassed, oh no, he just hadn't expected that from her. 'Did she really just? No! Did she?' He asked himself, looking away and regaining his typical grin. "Oh, let's save the formality for another time and call it a run, dear." Was his retort as he caught up to her just in time for her to look at him with her pretty, pretty eyes and for his ears to listen to her own little joke. "Excuse me, but I've already caught them today!" He cried with a laugh, racing past her into the needle-strewn forest, patches of snow dotting the forest floor as he enjoyed her light company. "Where to now, princess? I'm dying to know." The tabby asked, teasing her slightly as his eyes danced.

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Birdsong smiled, “Don’t worry yourself about it Reflectedrain” she launched herself swiftly off the ground, darting through some small berry bushes, which were a odd brown colour, the coldness must have gotten to them. She sniffed gently at one carefully, dead. She shuddered lightly and continued, retracing her paces before coming up behind the Tomcat. Then she wiggled her bottom and with a swish of her thick tail she pounced promptly into the air, landing on Reflectedrain, smiling she pinned him down “Gotcha” she whispered.
“Don’t call me Princess” she added, the irony behind that word was paradoxical considering she was once a leaders daughter. A shadow cast over her as she continued forward, silence parading over her thoughts. “It’s cheesy” she swapped over to the previous smile, “You won’t get many girls if you call them that, only the ‘Oh my stars! Have you seen how dirty her paws are?!’ sort of cats” Birdsong wiggled her bum and darted from side to side on her tiptoes, intimidating the she-cats who were more interested in grooming themselves than fighting for the clan, she pitied them.
Smoky fur blended sweetly against the patch of snow she sat in, her ocean coloured eyes blinked as she cocked her head to the side, watching the Tom. He sure was a sight; a sight that made her little heart beat like it never had done before. Her eyes slipped over his darker patches that made up his coat before they came up to meet his turquoise coloured eyes that were full of loyalty and devotion. She blinked, seeing her own reflection in them.

This girl was just full of unexpected things. Reflectedrain couldn't help but be astonished, but he wasn't hating the surprises, though. In fact, she was different, it was like a breath of fresh spring air being carried on the cold, winter breeze, and he loved the scent of what was yet to come. Birdsong followed him, and as he turned his head around to catch a glimpse of her, she landed on him, pinning him to the cold ground. "Oof!" He uttered as she pressed him to the ground. He wriggled back and forth, trying to break free, and ended up turning over so that she was pinning his chest down as he looked up into her pretty gaze. He frowned for a moment, as she told him to forget it, but he wouldn't pry, it was rude to do so, and he didn't want to be rude. Brash, crazy, and blunt he was, but he wouldn't be able to live down being rude. Especially with his mum looking down at him from StarClan watching him do so.
His frown grew larger, and a mishevious light lit up his gaze, "I'm so sorry, I'll never compliment you ever again!" He cried, sniffling slightly before bursting into a round of big laughs, collapsing his head into the ground as she started mocking dainty little she-cats. "Oh, oh my! We can't be going on a run, we might muss up our pretty little fur. Oh, Birdsong, watch yourself, there's some dirt! Aaah!" He joked, sitting up so that their heads were level and their faces parallel. His typical grin cracked, and he watched her as she watched him, and his face grew warm once more. "You okay there?" He asked, eyebrows raising just a bit with interest as he spoke. She was gorgeous.
But then his thoughts went spiraling back to Spellwish, how she'd accused him of sneaking around behind his back, how she'd shrieked at him and cried, ran away, but he'd stopped her. His feelings about her now were conflicted. She'd never let him explain, not really, and she'd not spoken to him for moons. The agony after she first left seared through him like an old wound, burning in a deeper way than his blush when he caught Birdsong staring at him. He turned away, his face falling and his eyes growing dark. "I'm sorry." He muttered, standing up, drawing away from her. Reflectedrain didn't want to close off from her, she was so nice, there was a chance with her, but he'd never be able to forgive himself if he did something to make Spellwish hate him even more. Since they'd never officially decreed everything between them dead, it felt wrong to play and tease Birdsong. "I just can't. There's...she..." He tried, looking at her, grimacing. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I.. this.. Oh, StarClan." Reflectedrain cried, hanging his head low, unable to go on.

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Birdsong padded forwards, “Reflectedrain” the wind carried her soft mew, “I … I didn’t think … I’m sorry” she whispered quickly as she darted past him further into the pine ridden forest. Her eyes rimmed with water, and a ball formed in her throat and she pushed it down. What sort of an idiot am I?! The she-cat scolded herself, and to just run away as well. For the first time in many moons, she had actually been enjoying herself for once and then she’d just not thought about anything or how her actions would affect Reflectedrain.
The smoky cat quickly approached a small stream, with steam pouring into the atmosphere, it was beautiful. She sighed and padded slowly towards the end, finding a soft patch of grass that was dotted with snow which reflected the white sky. She sighed and laid down, looking into the icy water, “I love you mum” she whispered, emotions flooding over her light a sunny sky becoming quickly clouded with black skies.
Images flooded her head from when her father had slashed her, she reviled how the rest of the clan sat there, too scared to go against their vile leader. Birdsong’s eyes pooled, what was even the point of her being around, all she did was cause hassle when she just tried to do right. She just wanted someone to love her, someone who she could start a family with and just try and put the past behind her, raising her young with a loving cat, bringing up a beautiful family. The she-cat whimpered softly, looking down at the long scar, she licked the fur so that it covered the horrid skin up.

Oh great, he'd gone and messed everything up. How many times did that have to happen? Reflectedrain shook his head, and stood there for a moment, watching her run away, catching the scent of salt. 'Dear StarClan, I'm a monster.' He thought before freezing. "No, I won't let this happen again.
" He whispered to himself, taking off in the direction that Birdsong went. When he came upon her, she was lying in the snow, whimpering. His face fell, it was full of every kind of sorrow, and he approached slowly, trying not to startle her or make her run away. " Birdsong, I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything by that. Things are just weird, okay? Promise me you won't run away again." Reflectedrain murmured, walking toward her and turning to face her. " Promise?" He asked sweetly before leaning down and licking the fur between her two ears. " Don't cry any longer, things'll be alright." He soothed. He'd promise her the world to make her feel better, he didn't want anyone to be overcome with misery. " Whatever's happened in your past is gone, what matters now is everything that is yet to come. Our decisions now affect everything that hasn't happened yet, it sets the course for our lives." Reflectedrain continued, stepping back, watching her delicate face and the soft colors of her face as their complimented her rosy nose and her pretty eyes. " And for the love of stars, don't take every little stupid thing I do so seriously, alright?" He added, smirking a bit. " I'm not the brightest, smartest one out there, but I'll sure try. But I am far from perfect, so humor me and ignore a few of my mistakes, 'kay?" Reflectedrain kept going, rambling out of habit, but setting his words off with a wink. " How about that run? Or is it a walk now? I'm feeling pretty lazy."[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - “Promise” Birdsong mewed softly, flicking her creamy tail from side to side. “I’m really tired, a walk sounds nice, and a lazy day around camp as well” she smiled once more. “Don’t put yourself down Reflectedrain” she paused to look towards the Silverpelt in the sky, “Everyone makes mistakes” she gulped down thinking about Crowneye, the loner she had fallen for those moons ago. She remembered his muzzle, caressing her face, his soft voice telling her it was going to be fine, that they would run away and join a clan, he made her promise to run away and escape, even if he wasn’t there. She’d been puzzled by what he meant. Then that morning she went to their meeting point under the oak tree, to find him dead, laid in a puddle of his own blood with no dignity left at all, he had been murdered. Her father, Crookedstar, he’d done that, the monster.
Birdsong zoomed back into reality, blinking slowly, she had run away to join a clan, she’d promised Crowneye she’d escape. The she-cat shook her head, “Come on” she mewed quietly, standing up.
The she-cat padded softly forward, cocking her head back, waiting for the tabby coloured tom cat to join her, “I love this weather” she smiled, “It reminds me of my mother, my old elders told me she loved it when it snowed” she blinked, looking at Reflectedrain. If he were a she-cat, he’d be downright beautiful. She forced a wobbly smile, blush spreading across her fur that covered her cheeks, she looked at the floor

At her promise, he smiled, nodding to her as she began to walk onward. "I've made more than my fair share of them, that's for sure." The tom admitted, not denying what was true about him. "I thought I really loved someone, but then she just turned right into another cat. I didn't know what was happening, or who she'd become." Reflectedrain continued, trying to dispel anymore thoughts about Spellwish and everything she'd put him through. Her pretty dark bodice and light silvery periwinkle eyes were a lie to what laid within. She dwelled far too long on what she would become if she was like her mother and her mate was like her father. It drove Reflectedrain mad thinking about it, and he could only hope that someday he would be able to love someone without comparing it to that blip that now scarred him like a freckle upon a twoleg's face. It really wasn't that big of a deal to him anymore.
As she spoke of her mother, he grew solemn before a smile appeared upon his tabby maw. "My mother preferred warmer weather because it was when she had me and my sisters." Reflectedrain recalled, feeling a slight pressure in his chest when he talked of the beautiful ashen she-cat that Radianteclipse had been. "I'm the splitting image of my father, though, but he took off after mom had me, Mallow, and the rest." He shook his head, watching a bird as it broke from the pine trees above, its song gracing his ears with its varying notes as it called for its mate and their young. "So..what was the Clan you came from? Sorry if that's too forward." He apologized in advance as they continued walking and the conversation quickly grew between them.

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - This was it, finally after all these moons, Birdsong felt she could actually trust someone with her life story. She enhaled a deep breath and with a brush of her tail she leaped gracefully over a rough boulder that lay in their path and looked sideways, gazing softly and gently at Reflectedrain. “In the mountains, Peakclan” she looked at him, they were well known for being great in battle, no one dared venture into their hunting grounds in fear of being slayed on the spot. “My father was leader of that clan, my mother passed onto the stars when I was born, along with my three siblings, I was the only one who survived” she whispered, gazing up at the sky slowly.
Birdsong weaved in between the patches of snow, swallowing the large ball in her throat, preparing to tell the main part to the story. “My father … he … he was very controlling, and everything had to be done his way and no other. Now I’m not like that, my old friend, Duskeyes, she told me I was a free dove, always doing my own thing” she smiled at the thought of her friends amber eyes blinking as they shared tongues. Birdsong blinked, Duskeyes eye’s melting into Reflectedrains blue gems, she sighed, “I was on a hunting party one day, I ventured down the mountain maybe further than I should have, but there was a big juicy vole with my name on it, I came across a loner, we tackled at first, but then we started talking, and he seemed to understand me more than anyone had done before. Many members of the clan tried to be soft on me, I hated their pity, just because my family had been destroyed at birth and I had a vile father” she shook her head. “His name was Crowneye and as I told him about my life and he told me about his, we fell in love. He promised me that we would run away one day and join a new clan, start a new life together” she gulped down air before continuing, “We met in secret at every chance we got and one day he laid down with me and made me promise that I’d run away, even if he was not around – I was puzzled by what he meant but then the next day, just after sunhigh, I ventured to our meeting point under the oak tree to find him dead, laid in a puddle of his own blood, he had been tortured, and I knew my father had done it” she breathed out, shaking slowly, “I also knew that my father had murdered our medicine cat, and I had proof” she whispered looking at the floor. “So I ran back, I hid how upset I was about Crowneye, I put those feelings in a box for a while, I confronted my father in front of the whole clan, but what rage he let out after that. In front of the whole clan, he … he …” Birdsong whimpered before looking up at Reflectedrain gently, “He attacked me” she breathed briefly looking at the long scar down her front, “And then he would not like Lionleaf, our medicine cat, help me, I ran away, scared and helpless. I prayed that my mother and siblings in Starclan would guide me, I followed the Silverpelt, and then I found Vertigoclan and I was in such a state, I guess you lot didn’t know what to do with me, no one asked questions though, and I don’t think anyone would want to know” she finished breathing heavily. “That’s the first time I’ve ever told anyone my story” she mewed softly, “I trust you Reflectedrain”.

He watched as her face contorted with various emotions, as the light fluctuated in her eyes, fighting with darkness and powerful feelings brought forth by her telling her own back story. Even when her face held pain inside of it, Birdsong was beautiful. The sepia-toned fur all across her pelt was dappled with creams and pallid coffee colors. His ears remained perked, taking in each of her words, trying to simulate in his mind what her life would have been like. There were so many things he wanted to say, he struggled to remain silent, but Reflectedrain knew that this wasn't a story to interrupt, to put in his own comments, and to even joke about. It was serious.
Finally, when she had stopped, when she had come back to their world, living in the snowy territory of VertigoClan in the present, he took a long intake of breath and carefully arranged his words. "PeakClan sounds like such a pretty place, but at the same time, it doesn't. I can't imagine you, being so kind and so beautiful in many ways inside and out, not being able to fit in right." He started with, watching her closely for her every reaction, stepping lightly and thinking before he spoke. "And you are a free dove. Look at you. How far are you from home? You've come so very far, and it's as if you've only started to thrive after you'd been with Crowneye. You're so strong, Birdsong." The young tom complimented her, dipping his head to her in respect.
The joy he felt when she said that she trusted him made him feel as if he were floating, flying among the clouds, while just standing there, next to her. She made him feel so many emotions, as if he had stood next to her in all of her times of sorrow and conflict. Reflectedrain couldn't understand it completely, but around her he seemed to feel whole, as if things didn't need to be explained or questioned. He felt...different. "I trust you too, Birdsong. You're different; you're you. We needed a free dove up here in our Clan." As he spoke, he lightly pressed himself against her side, his face growing warm immediately before he pulled away. "Do you..do you want to hear my story? It's not all that great, but it's not as...unbearable...as yours." He asked her, wanting to tell her what he had known and saw, living in VertigoClan all his life.

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Birdsong eyed Reflectedrain carefully as he pulled away, those few seconds as they touched had sent warmth tingling through her spine, warmth that she had not felt since Crowneye. She sighed, he was in the past now, she needed to move on, she’d told someone her story, it was out of her mind, now she needed to put her happy and caring face back on.
“Reflectedrain, I’ll always be here for you, I’m here to talk to, I’d love to hear your story, maybe I can try and ease some of the pain, my elders in Peakclan told me I was good with the whole sympathy and empathy thing” she smiled softly, padding over to sit next to the Tom. Birdsong allowed her tail to gently lay atop of Reflectedrains, she smiled, “Okay, tell me” she mewed quietly as a brisk wind flew past them both, carrying a pile of leaves up towards the mountains. Her turquoise eyes followed them before returning to the Tom, giving him her full attention.

He smiled at her, before thinking about where to begin. His own history wasn't that exciting at all, in fact, it was boring, but the tom felt the need to share, especially with Birdsong. "Well, I was born here in VertigoClan during a time of struggle between the four Clans and a rogue Clan calling themselves MaliceClan. I don't remember much about that, just that my dad fought in the battles and my mom had us in that time." Reflectedrain started, licking his lips before continuing. "My dad's name was Emeraldfire and he was a reddish brown tabby tom like me with almost excactly the same eyes. He was so excited to see his kits, I remember what he was like back then. He loved my mom so much. Her name was Radianteclipse and she was the prettiest all gray cat you've ever seen. She had these pretty green eyes and a big heart. She took really good care of us, even after dad left. Some cats say he couldn't take the jealousy of seeing mom with her best friend, who was a tom, and that he ran off with what was left of MaliceClan and they called themselves Delirium."
His face scrunched up like he had difficulty remembering it all, and he did. He'd barely even aged two moons before his dad seemed to up and disappear. Shaking his head slightly, he continued. "My mentor was the best. His name was Northwind, and he was mom's best friend. He also became one of my best friends. I wish everyday that he would have been my dad instead of Emeraldfire, except I know in my heart that I love my dad in a way. I love who he used to be. Northy and I didn't get along so well at first, but he taught me everything I know now. I learned a lot from him, especially the fact that I'm way different than my dad, even though the same can't be said about my looks.
" Reflectedrain shrugged, looking at the pretty female as she laid her tail across his. Smiling sweetly at her, he frowned as he got to the hardest part of the story. " After I became a warrior, things were different. A wolf was in our territory and it was terrorizing us. It took our prey, killed our warriors, and even after it was dead it infected us with an unknown illness. It took Northwind, Lilythorn, Chasmriver, Jetfang, and nearly every last one of Lynxstar's lives to take it down, and we ended up losing Northy and Chasmriver from it. Lynxstar succumbed to the illness afterward. Things were terrible, just horrible.. Then the illness took my mom, too. Spellwish, her mom got murdered by the wolf. I was on the patrol with her when we found the body with Lynxstar. She ran away, but I followed her against Lynxstar's wishes. I caught her on the CelestialClan border, I convinced her to come home, it..it was so..Spellwish was devastated, but she gave the Clan another chance because of me, and now she won't even talk to me. I haven't spoken to her in moons, she won't give me the chance. But I have other things to deal with, anyway." Reflectedrain dismissed thoughts about the ebony beauty, shaking his head once more before glancing at Birdsong with a half-smile. " See? y story isn't all that great." He muttered, looking down at his paws and then back to the pine trees all about them.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Birdsong’s blue eyes watched carefully as her friend told her about his life story, she listened closely to every single detail, and she liked detail. “Reflectedrain, everyone has a story, don’t put it down, and don’t class it as ‘great’ because it’s not, Spellwish obviously meant a great deal to you and you are hurting, just like I was hurting over Crowneye” she paused, “I haven’t actually come to think of him, I put everything in my life aside” she whispered softly.
“Come on” she smiled hopelessly, dashing into the woods, “Let’s go home” the weather was turning chilly and she missed the atmosphere of the den for some reason. All this talk about her life had made her realise how truly lucky she really was. She gracefully padded through the snow, breathing in the heavy scents of the forest. But suddenly, a overwhelming scent over powered her senses, a big, red fox. She froze, looking round. All was quiet, but suddenly the giant burst out of the pine heading straight for her. She backed up quickly, “Ah-oof!” she exclaimed, running forward to meet the fiesty creature. Birdsong felt it's jaws clamp around air, right next to her neck and she shuddered. Birdsong growled, launching from her heels, tackling the fox, they tumbled over but the fox was much larger than Birdsong and quickly threw her off, sending her flying against a hard tree. She whimpered, seeing circles in her vision. She could taste blood in the back of her throat already, but nevertheless, Birdsong carried on, she growled and ran at a fast speed, once again launching herself through the air, digging her claws into the fox.
