hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you The larger of the two cats cleared his throat and frowned slightly. ”You seem to be missing my line of thought here Dreamfeather.” He began. Obviously it would be idiotic to risk the lives of his very talented warriors for a little bit of revenge here and there she did not have to point that much out to him. ”I was thinking more along the lines of they would be somewhat blinded with their anger and not be fighting their best and not thinking, therefore allowing us to have an advantage by striking each time they make a said mistake which would deal twice the amount of damage.” He explained. Voidstar could not think of any good reason to risk his older warriors considering Tempestclan was currently full of the younger generation. He knew that his warriors were able to train the apprentices in the best possible way to turn them into fine young warriors but they still lacked something that apprentice training could not give them and that was life experience. None of the older, wiser warriors could pass on that type of knowledge to the young and they had to go out get it for themselves. The only problem was when they had the experience of the older warriors the feuds will have changed thus creating the same problem again.
At the mention of her sibling the corners of his maw upturned slightly. Now maybe she would allow herself to empathise with her leader a little, both of them having to protect murderous siblings. He would not compare the sanity of Hailghost and Blackshard for one moment as it was clear that his own brother was just generally insane, while Hailghost had just been having a bad day since he knows the values that a warrior upholds. Yet he felt as though he had to protect his sibling from the other cats in the clans and she felt she had to protect hers from Celestialclan. Voidstar was a little hopeful that by her experiencing these feelings of love for her kin that she would not be quite so unsettled by him allowing Shard into their clan but at the same time he highly doubted any cat would become settled with that idea. Another reason he believed that Hailghost was completely different from Shard was how he was with his apprentice. Even from occasionally sighting the two training together as he journeyed through the territory he could tell that they got on well, although he wasn’t sure if Dreamfeather had been keeping an eye on the apprentices training recently. ”Your brother has recovered from the battle and I don’t wish to cause any intentional damage to him, but from what I have seen he appears to be rather content. I think giving him apprentice helped him to focus on something, I have observed he is the type who likes a challenge but of course you know him better.” He replied. This was just what he knew of the grey tom, and he wouldn’t pretend as though he knew exactly what he was like because he did not.
Pausing in his gait, he turned to look at Dreamfeather, just short of them entering the forest of leafless trees. ”You don’t sound so sure of yourself?” He questioned and titled his head lightly to one side. Running through the conversation quickly in his head he was unable to figure out what he could have said to cause her discomfort and patiently waited to find out.

DREAMFEATHER She nodded, listening to his plan regarding Celestialclan. "I was just making sure."
The deputy sighed. "I can't help but think we might have been better off without that last battle. It gave experience, of course, but for a price. Celestialclan holds a grudge well." Dreamfeather knew that, of the two clans, Tempestclan would surely prevail. They were the strongest, the most determined, and the more seasoned. Still, there are so many youth. Despite the origins of most of the apprentices in the clan, the deputy didn't want to risk their lives anymore than she did her brother's. So it was her duty to care for every cat in her clan, whether that cat was her own kin or an adopted rogue. Dreamfeather was beginning to realize that this was what it meant to be deputy, and someday leader, of Tempestclan. The silver bengal was able to smile genuinely as he mentioned Hailghost and Cherrypaw. Despite her own jealousy that she and Martenpaw didn't get on quite as well, she was still extremely satisfied to see what a good pair the duo was. "I think so too, Voidstar. It's good to see them together. It's been so long since Hailghost had something like that in his life. Truthfully it seemed like he'd gotten moody... and then he killed that Celestialclan tom... but he seems to have improved a lot lately. You made a good call, giving him Cherrypaw." She licked her shoulder fur, but it refused to lay completely flat. "She shows promise." She returned his gaze when the leader halted, unsure of how to proceed. Dreamfeather shrugged off his comment. "I don't want to see you go, of course. Every deputy has doubts of becoming leader before they actually are. Also, the clan loves and believes in you, and I'm not sure what else I can do to earn their faith." She was surprised by the truthfulness of her remarks. Despite fighting hard in battle, patrolling to the point of insanity, and even vague attempts at friendliness, she still felt that she hadn't quite earned her clan's full trust. hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you A dark shadow hung over his eyes as he frowned, an obvious burden hanging over him like a storm cloud. He knew only too well they were not in a very good position. "I know Dreamfeather, we are weaker than we have been in the past and we need to sort it out. I hate to admit it but maybe Shard could have some good advice if he is not in the mood for pissing us off," he replied but his muscles were tense and thinking about such things made the tom uneasy. He did not want to admit weakness but he knew they could be a lot stronger than they were now. All of their older warriors had been lost and they were left with much younger members. Maybe Shard knew of some sort of training scheme to strengthen them up and they could change it slightly to suit their needs rather than whatever his brother might be plotting. "Of course we wouldn't do everything he said, knowing him he is bound to do something idiotic. But what else can we do?" As he looked up to meet her eyes there was a hint of alarm in his eyes but he pushed away his worry and wore a guarded mask upon his features.
Nodding thoughtfully he noted how their personalities matched so well. If only all of his mentor and apprentice pairings were like that then there might be more hope for the clan. "Maybe if we monitored apprentice training more closely we could help them improve more, but sadly we can’t always make perfect apprentice and mentor pairings," he suggested but he wasn't sure. All he knew was that they had to make the clan stronger and he would need to do it as soon as possible. Hopefully with Dreamfeather by his side he would be able to do that.
Snorting softly at the doubt the female had in herself. "You have always been ready to be leader, don't worry about it," he replied. It was then he realise he had managed to say something nice without having to force it out or making it sound awkward. Inwardly he was glad about his achievement but there was no trace of this on his features. "There will always be times when a clan doubts their leader and I believe now is one of those times. They need me, us, to move them through these tough times and make them strong again," he added sounding surer of himself than he felt. At the end of the day he did what he felt was right and if they were not behind him there was little he could do about that.

The bengal nodded, knowing how important it was to the leader for her, if not all of the clan, to accept Shard and his uses. "Yes, he might know of some way to help make us stronger," she agreed, thinking on her own of their options, and the ways they might get out of their position. When Voidstar looked at her with his green eyes, though, and she caught just a hint of weakness and uncertainty there, she nearly stumbled again. It made her feel a little bolder in speaking of the future though, as she hardly ever saw any sort of softness in the ebony leader. In fact, then might have been the first time. "I think all we really need is some time, though." Dreamfeather smiled faintly, thinking about spring and what the new season might bring. "The young will become part of the older, experienced generation with time, and the apprentices will become skilled under their, and our, guidance. Prey will flourish with newleaf and perhaps, if we're lucky, kits will be born." She was becoming more positive on the matter, having collected her thoughts. Things weren't so grim for Tempestclan, the most enduring of all clans. "I think we should be monitoring your brother and Secretpaw more than we do," she suggested, considering the other current pairings. There weren't any others besides herself and Voidstar. "How is Brazenpaw coming along?"
She listened silently to him speaking about leadership, unable to reply. Though her softened features hardened again, and inwardly she resolved to try harder as deputy, she still wondered how many lives her leader had left. Voidstar was still pretty young; he was around her age; so she hoped it was many.

hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you Quickly the long-haired tom became a little paranoid that the female had seen weakness in his strong front. If she had then maybe she doubted his ability as a leader or maybe thought he was softer than he appeared. It was true he could be soft at times but he did not want anyone to know that. Forcing his thoughts to slow down he calmly talked himself through the situation. Surely he could trust Dreamfeather by now because when he thought about it rationally he did not feel paranoid at all; he felt a wave of calmness wash over him. Perhaps this was what it felt like to have trust in another, but if he would not admit that he trusted her did that mean it was still trust? There were so many questions in his head to be answered and he did not know how to get answers to them.
Upon hearing her comment about his apprentice he scolded himself inwardly. He could not expect his warriors to train their apprentices more when he found himself too busy to spend more time with his apprentice. She was his family and he knew he should be treating her better. He felt like an idiot for allowing it to slip past him and wanted to thank Dreamfeather for reminding him but if he did thank her then that would show how neglectful he had been. ”She will be coming along well, soon.” He responded quickly hoping not to stay on the topic for very long. ”And Martenpaw? It must be rather strange for them not knowing their mother yet knowing how much of a pain their father is,” he commented hopefully being able to change the subject.
Coming up to the trees he remembered why they had been heading in this direction but was not in a mood to hunt anymore. ”Do you still wish to hunt?” He asked the female breaking the silence between them. There was no expression on her face and he wanted to know what she was really thinking about his words but did not feel bold enough to ask.

She sensed how hesitant Voidstar was to discuss his apprentice, and decided to drop it. However, when he replied in kind, ”And Martenpaw? It must be rather strange for them not knowing their mother yet knowing how much of a pain their father is,” she felt a little flustered. Martenpaw, well, she hadn't really trained her much. Dreamfeather tried to rationalize that she'd been busy, but really she could have incorporated her apprentice into more of her solo patrolling, asking her what she scented and the like. She must be really bored, the deputy thought guiltily, the realization just dawning on her. In truth, she'd been rather selfish. Just because she and her apprentice hadn't bonded like her brother and Cherrypaw had, didn't mean she should just give up on her. I'll take her on the dawn patrol with me tomorrow, she resolved, setting her jaw. And after a little rest we can train. It'll only take a little time, and things will be going smoothly. "Martenpaw," she breathed her apprentice's name before continuing on briskly, "has been doing very well. She'll make an excellent warrior, in time, even with her pain of a sire." Absently, the bengal added, "She's got your blood, after all." Only after she'd said it did she feel rather flustered, and hastily added, "You being a leader and all, I'm sure she'll... uh, step up to your expectations."
Dreamfeather gave a start when they slowed to meet the new terrain, and he meowed, ”Do you still wish to hunt?” She had entirely forgotten their purpose for coming this way, apparently, as had he. Her former fire to compete with and beat Voidstar had vanished, mostly. Now she just felt an odd, confused sensation. "No, not really..." She flicked her ears at the snow. "I mean, it's rather cold, isn't it? Maybe we should just bring back the catches we've already made."
NOTES. try and finish the thread with your next post? C: this has been going on for quite a while, we should move on.

hear us now, clear and true, wretches and kings we come for you Noticing how both of them tip-toed around their apprentice made him smile slightly. Training them could be a harder task than one would think. It was easy enough to show them the basics but at times communicating with them could be hard but when they chose to be difficult he turned a blind eye to it and made them work twice as hard. Training Brazenpaw would be a way for him to stop worrying so much about the clan and be actively trying to resolve their issue of inexperienced cats. Maybe he could step up and be a father figure to the young female since Shard was not a good example for any cat to follow. It wasn’t as though he could see himself fathering any kits anyway since there were no females he had that sort of relationship with. ”I just hope it’s me she follows and not her father,” He replied with a sharp intake of breath. He would have to make sure that happened. Although he did smile slightly at her subtle compliment but did not want to make any big deal out of it due to it being slightly awkward.
”Yes let’s head back,” he decided and turned to look at Dreamfeather for a moment. It was possible, but he could never see that happening between the two of them. He was sure it would never be something she would want. Turning and padding onwards he went to find his prey hidden under a pile of snow in order to carry it back to camp. He preferred his prey to be warm and juicy rather than crisp but it was better than nothing and they all needed to keep their strength up. As he got back to camp he placed it down in the centre of camp for others to eat before leaping up to his perch.
