It's dragging me down and I can't pull away {dreamfeather} { I feel it everyday it's all the same - It brings me down but I'm the one to blame - I've tried everything to get away }
Standing upright near the center of the clearing, a monstrously sized thing, a king of a tree, with limbs stretching every which way and curving to protect the cats like nothing else. At it's hollowed center, the fresh kill pile; at it's topmost branches, the nests of the highest ranking cats, including Voidstar, a sleek black tom and the leader of the clan, and Dreamfeather, a pretty silver bengal; his second in command. At the very bottom of the tree, its huge, fat roots stretched out lazily, keeping it grounded, half under the dirt in some cases and in other completely above it. Here, some of the other cats slept; mostly, the warriors slept about the trunk, so as to guard their sleeping clan from predators. Though their eyes were closed, their muscles relaxed, every now and then a tail would twitch in restless, suspended animation, or an ear would flicker, catching on a particularly heavy night breeze. Should even the quietest, stealthiest warrior try to sneak past them, from the tree or toward the tree, surely one would awaken. Tempestclan cats prided themselves in their keen senses in all things, including scent and hearing. And yet... Some pawsteps were simply too familiar, soft and undetectable. The scents of their clanmates were comforting, not alarming, not enough to wake them from their deep sleeps. Even more so, if those same cats were out every night, by themselves or with others, and if one of those cats just happened to include the deputy... Well, what business was it of their's to question what Dreamfeather was off doing at night? She was the deputy, and would likely answer only to Voidstar, should the leader notice her consistent absences. But even if he did, and it was quite likely so, Voidstar didn't miss much, he had chosen thus far not to say anything. Dreamfeather carried out her duties efficiently and loyally, and never complained a minute about being tired during dawn patrol. Perhaps it was simply better for her to wander at night; she always returned before dawn, as it was.
{So here I go again - Chasing you down again - Why do I do this?}
A phantom, sliding gracefully through piers of darkness, pelt barely showing under cover of heavy night. Alert, bright green eyes, of endless depths, betraying nothing. Not a shine, not a glint, of white or any other color. A lean shadow, stalking the morning rays, silent. The deputy was not said ghostly roamer; this was the cat she sought after, perhaps not even consciously, but sought after anyway, her silver paws showing more in the darkness than his would have, indirectly leading her after him. Longshadow. It was a name she had thought quite often, as of late, and yet, her thoughts had been entirely consumed until now with other challenges and issues. Everyday demands, mixed with new troubles and old troubles, and a few troubles that she hadn't even knowledge as to what to do with them. Dreamfeather should have been resting up in her nest, curled up on a branch, nearby Islandsplash. But she simply couldn't lay still and do nothing; it was impossible for her. The deputy did this often. For some reason, however, tonight she felt guilty about it. She couldn't get the image of the sleeping Islandsplash out of her head. Would her friend want to know where she was going? Would she want to know what she was up to? But what if Dreamfeather was caught, and then the orange female asked if she could come along? She would never find Longshadow with her friend at her side, simply for the reason that he wouldn't allow himself to be found. What business is it of Islandsplash's anyway? She tried to reassure herself with this stubborn thought, and it worked, but only for a moment- then she felt worse. Much worse.
{ Over and over, I fall for you - Over and over, I try not to }
Torn between pressing on, sure she could nearly feel Longshadow's breath on her fur, and returning to Islandsplash, frightened that her friend might wake and find her missing, Dreamfeather nearly turned back altogether. Wouldn't it be better to rest tonight, so that there wouldn't be any unspoken questions the next day, and even worse, unspoken answers? But then, suddenly, she heard a slight rustle somewhere up ahead, and, whipping her ice blue gaze toward it, noticed a faint shaking among the thick, spiny branches of a low growing blue pine tree. She could just make out these details, but hadn't turned fast enough to see what it was entirely. It could be nothing more than a raccoon, out on its own midnight escapades; a bird, taking flight into the surrounding forest. Somehow, though, she didn't think so. Dreamfeather began to feel superstitious; she felt that way often now. Like the rustle must mean something. That Longshadow was out here, not back in camp as she should have been. That he was prowling around too, like she was. That maybe, he was looking for her. The thought excited her so that the fur on her neck bristled in a shiver, and she crouched to the ground, feeling shed pine needles brush against her belly. Guilt was momentarily gone, all focus on that sound, which, as she thought of it more and more, seemed to have been louder and more pronounced, like a cat...
{ I try to live without you, every time I do I feel dead }
She crouched just a moment longer, then stealthily slid through the branches, over the pine needles, achingly slowly, toward the movement. Instinct told her to pounce- and for a moment she grappled with a warm bodied creature, nothing more than a mouse that had been exceptionally loud. In a few moments it was dead. The clan had been fed quite well today, and there was no shame in eating it on spot. Dreamfeather had no feelings about not finding the mouse to be Longshadow, or her own foolishness; rather, she was overcome with a predatory feeling, and swallowed the mouse in a few bites, burying the remains quickly. She was on a mission now; she would waste no time in tracking that sable warrior down- she knew he was out here. He had to be! Her excitement only grew as she continued, at a fast but controlled pace, through the pines. She nary made a sound, so profusely was she occupied with thoughts of her target. It wasn't obsessive, the way she was seeking him out; it might have been, had she had any idea what to say to him, but in fact she was just blindly going to him, hoping against hope that he was out here with her...
WORD COUNT: 1157 TAGGED: Longshadow ((aero)) NOTES: The lyrics are from Over and Over, by Three Days Grace. At long last, my muse for Dreamfeather has returned! Haha, with her feeling guilty for 'keeping her friend out of the loop.' Or is that all you're feeling guilty about, Dreamy? Nevertheless, she's back in action!

you're sick of feeling numb, you're not the only one The trees quaked in quiet rhythm, shaken by the breeze that fled through the night whisked grove. The small forest was bare and provided little to no cover under the blankets of snow that cloaked the trees in icy powder and buried the frozen earth below. His black paws rested gingerly on the graupel, tail curling around them as if to withhold the little heat radiating from his extremities. Fleet of foot he had taken to the woodland just before the sun dropped below the chilled horizon, catching the tail-end of the dusk patrol and riding out their trail until splitting for a more desolate path to his secluded destination. Since the lanky tom had thought about much, pacing the winter scape, even catching a thrush nesting in a cold-worn hedge. The meal had been his first all day. He ate poorly on most days, simply because he didn't feel the need to consume very much. Not only that, but he had always neglected food in a rather childish way, not eating when he was supposed to. Somehow he still managed to keep a nourished appearance, though he was naturally thinner than half of his clan. (Tempestclan was fairly well known for strength.) His winter coat had grown in, making him look fuller and 'bigger' if you would, but thicker hair couldn't make up for layers of muscle. Learning to live with this lack of - the truth of his genetics hardly bothered him anymore.
In fact the only thing that could touch his emotions was a silver she-cat, her beauty spinning a web in his head more intricate and complicated than the pattern on her fur. She walked in his dreams when they weren't nightmares, effected his actions to where everything he did somehow centered around her. She unknowingly controlled him, he was but a slave to her inducement. An unhealthy addiction, he knew it. Longshadow hated the spell she held on him, but couldn't imagine being bewitched by anything more interesting and captivating at that. The tall black tom sat at the edge of the snowy grove, signs of the fen popping up around him in frosted yellow grass and soft ground turned hard by the cold season. The stars above showed in patches, invisible clouds shaded by darkness smothering their brilliant glory. Each one looked smaller, though twinkled silver brighter than he remembered in previous leaf-bares. Looking up at the distant lights, the strange tom was replaying the minutes beside the stream - now frozen-, the close proximity to the Bengal causing him to stiffen, even though the freshness of the recollection was fading. She would never fade from his mind. Lurching forward he gracefully covered the length of a geographical decline, vanishing into the stiff, snow drowsed grasses of the fen. His paws swiftly felt through the territory, his clover green eyes watchful, mysterious depths shining as the pale moonlight met them greedily. He pushed through the brittle reeds, making small tunnels. A cry of an animal in the distance echoed through his ears, the tom dismissing it as nothing but the night.
He continued on, padding over virgin snow. His prints stretched behind him, drag marks here and there from his lengthy tail. Usually once he entered the fen he was virtually untraceable. Now he stuck out, black fur against white landscape making him feel open and vulnerable. Essentially Longshadow had no where to run or hide for miles. How many winters had he seen? In his head he tried to count but failed to care, he just knew that despite his nudity in the season, it was also his favorite. Not only was everything beautiful, but it was his nature to enjoy struggle. Cruel maybe, but it fascinated him. Seeing what cats could survive and which could not. Who fell to illness and who fell to hunger. The queer tomcat thought of it as how nature balanced itself out. He just wanted to see who was dealt the wrong cards. Was it luck? Or was it fate? He contemplated this as he trekked through the open white bliss. His paws were becoming numb, his ear tip (one was missing) was also becoming numb and his nose felt frozen to his face. But it didn't seem to bother him. It was something he felt on the outside, and what he valued mainly existed on the inside. His mind and intelligence. Though, arguably losing sight, smell, or his two front paws would greatly upset him.
Stepping out into a particularly barren stretch of land, his long legs covered ground easily. Short legs might make traveling through snow (deep snow at that) difficult, but his long limbs lifted and placed without fail. Here however the layer of snow was thin. If he forced his paw a little deeper, he might have been able to touch the frozen earth.... crack! His paw was sucked into swirling, frigid dark water, forced into the jagged ice edges of the hole he had made in the frozen over stream. His foreleg recoiled sharply, his instinct making him push on and retreat to stable ground while he cradled his paw to his chest. Relaxing not too far from some powdered pines, he examined his paw. Drops of scarlet wept onto the pure white snow, splashing the spot with deep color. The cut wasn't deep, just deep enough to bleed a bit. He would be fine, especially with the snow to numb the pain. Licking the wound, he curled his lengthy black tail around his other paws, as if sheltering them from further harm. His tall figure stood out in the barren white, which lacked any protection, cover, or related shelter. Oblivious to this, Longshadow was more worried about getting an infection and his paw falling off than who could see him.

It's dragging me down and I can't pull away {dreamfeather} { I feel it everyday it's all the same - It brings me down but I'm the one to blame - I've tried everything to get away }
After what felt like very little progress, Dreamfeather halted beneath a group of trees, their branches heavy with snow. Even in the darkness, the moonlight from the halved moon above seemed to make the heaps of white glitter and sparkle, and the deputy shivered to think that a strong breeze might send it toppling down upon her. Still, she rested briefly, pressed against the base of a sparse pine for warmth. Despite the prey she had gulped down a very short while before, the bengal female felt a rumble in her stomach, and moments later, a quiet gurgle. Dreamfeather realized how little she had eaten in the past two days. Times are getting hard. We all have to cut down. How poorly she knew the dark recesses of her own mind; Dreamfeather was surprised that she felt bitterness at this. Not for her own sake, but for the reason that all of the warriors were eating less. The apprentice den was packed with none other than a dirty rogue's kits. She was out hunting twice a day to feed Blackshard's kits! After the thought, however, guilt flooded her, for many reasons. Firstly, Martenpaw, one of the new apprentices, had been assigned to her. In fact, Martenpaw's sibling, Brazenpaw, was assigned to the leader. Why Voidstar had chosen the two highest ranking warriors to mentor the newest rogue kits, she was unsure. But even with the newness of their apprenticeship, she should have felt loyalty to her own apprentice, not the willingness to abandon her. Secondly, she couldn't complain about hunting twice a day, because, though it was cold and conditions were harsh, she enjoyed the work. It gave her something to do, and kept her from picking fights around camp. Overall, Dreamfeather realized, she was simply being a prejudiced bitch- and the fact that she could hate Martenpaw, Brazenpaw, and Secretpaw simply for the fact that their parents had been rogues still continued to disgust her within. It was ridiculous to hate others, simply for something stupid that had happened moons before. At this point, more of the clan was related, either closely or distantly, to rogues than was pureblood. Dreamfeather quickly ran through this in her mind, every member of the clan; and found it was true. And how can I hate them, when every cat knows a half clan warrior is my best friend? It is not my place to play Starclan. Mentally, she was striking herself down, hurting herself for the pride that had become vile inside. Dreamfeather unsheathed her claws, and, turning to the tree at her side, scratched down the length of the bark, a low growl rumbling in her throat. I can't pick and choose who is worthy of being in Tempestclan and who isn't! And yet, through all of her struggles, she said nothing aloud. That was how it was with Dreamfeather; she was a silent type. No matter how much she put herself down, how much a monster she felt, how stupid and pitiful and ruined... Deep down, she knew she couldn't change the prejudice that had tainted her view since she was an apprentice. On some level, she would always hate Martenpaw.
{So here I go again - Chasing you down again - Why do I do this?}
In the past, anger was all she was prone to feeling. Rage, filling her veins and possessing her thoughts. But that had been before she had become friends with Islandsplash, a cat that had all of the right qualities for changing her for the better, and yet accepting her for who she was. Yes, even though Islandsplash was kind and forgiving, good and charitable... she was still willing to accept the deputy as a companion, not to simply hear her unhappiness over the changes in the clan but to listen and to realize that sometimes, it just isn't possible to change. How can she not judge me, when I judge everything I see? Since she and Islandsplash had grown close, it had been moons since Dreamfeather had felt so much anger in herself. But it was not only her temper that was rising as it was flaring for herself; it was all fine for a warrior to slash and claw at their enemies, as she had been doing all her life. But in the end, wasn't it just a distraction from her greatest enemy? If another brings you down, you can stay away from them, and the feeling will go away. But if you hate yourself, and you can't change, you can't get away from yourself. Dreamfeather had always thought she was in control; she had to be in control, because if she wasn't, things went wrong, things spun and crashed. But how could she be, when she couldn't even contain her own emotions? She wanted to be emotionless. For a long time, she had thought she'd stopped feeling, stopped hating, stopped loving. But it was impossible to stop feeling. The only ones that never felt were dead.
{ Over and over, I fall for you - Over and over, I try not to }
A fight. It had been a long one, and in the end, there could be no winner. That was when she gave it up. Stopped pretending. The silver she-cat stepped away from the pine, and then did she notice that she had wrenched her claw in her fury. The snow around the tree was splotched with blood, and the tree, white streaks stretching down its length from her strikes, was also dappled with red in places. Ignoring the faint pain in her paw, she spat in disgust and turned away from the sight. Dreamfeather was sick of this, and sick of it all. She'd come out here seeking an adventure with the very object of her desire, and instead she had been met with unanswerable questions. She was sick of pondering, sick of the nightmares, sick of the past and thinking about the future and anything but the present. She was just sick, and that was all there was to it.
{ I try to live without you, every time I do I feel dead }
With this in mind, Dreamfeather began to run again. Faster. Harder. Pines blurred past on either side of her, and small white flurries threatened to blind her as it began to snow lightly. That was all there was; the white flashes, and the white passing her by, and the tall brown trunks, just passing her by. She was going somewhere, but she didn't know where. She didn't care. Until... she scented blood. I can't have bled that much...? Up ahead, there was a dip, and she couldn't tell what was over that hill. She could just see a cluster of pines, close together, stretching toward the dark sky. The cold wind blew toward her again, and it was unmistakable what was on this breeze; what she had sought all along. Longshadow! Mixed with another scent... Blood. She continued at a quick stride, through the snow, pausing for a moment at the top of the hill. It turned out that he was a very short distance away; it might not have been noticed by another, especially in the moonlight, but her crystalline eyes sought out any amount of black, and, half tucked between two trees, she saw it. His pelt, back turned, down among the pines. By looks, it could just as easily have been Voidstar, or Blackshard; but she had tasted his scent on the wind. Dreamfeather didn't have to part her jaws again; she just knew, with certainty, that it was him.
The deputy continued at this rate, and slowed as she was within a few foxlengths, uncertain, but feeling reassured that she should check to be sure he was alright. Of course, it was the oddest possible situation- meeting Longshadow, at night, in the forest- but it had occurred before and it was an unspoken rule that if one wanted to meet the other they would be out that night. Dreamfeather's own minor injury continued to bleed mildly, but the cold had taken away feeling, and she didn't care much anymore. The dawn patrol would probably wonder why there were bloody pawprints returning to camp that night. "You're bleeding." That was her greeting. Not friendly or warm, albeit, but it got to the point. The bengal crept closer, knowing it was a one in a million chance to be seeing him here, and yet also feeling it was fate, magic, of some kind. "What happened?"

you're sick of feeling numb, you're not the only one The modest flow of blood was steady, his forearm raised a few mouse-tails above the shimmering ground, paw limp and sagging as it oozed. He was waiting for it to clot and stop bleeding, but it was a bad spot; between the carpal pad and the metacarpal pad. His paw had been already numbed by traveling through the snowy banks, so his pain was nonexistent. His paltry thoughts of infection no longer bothered him - the slash was clean and with the help of leaf-bare it would stay numb so he wouldn't be tempted to pick at it. As he watched the crimson spread in the pallid ice crystals, the spot was turning to slush, his warm blood melting the precipitation. The black tom's clover eyes listlessly followed the waning drip. Blood always brought him places in his head he thirsted to never go. Dark shapeless corners of his mind that lurked without benevolence. He could feel those dwellings dragging him in. You might expect murder scenes of his parents, or the death of a love, maybe even the parting of a friend. After all bloodshed was related to death. But his dark places harbored none of these spectacles. What he conjured was an image of himself. It was early leaf-fall, a little after sun-high in camp. Warriors dozed in the roots of the tree, apprentices played a stones-throw from their sights in the lush grass around the encampment. "But there are snakes in this grass," "Oh don't be a kit Longpaw, you're such coward! If you're going to complain go back to the nursery and let us train to be warriors!" His brother, then Fadedpaw, degraded him in front of his other den-mates. Nods of approval at his brother's speech made the young black tom drop his head in shame. When you get bit, I'll be happy. He muttered, falling to the back of the group as the crusade pushed deeper into the green blades. Tall at even this young age, he was taller than the rest of the apprentices and could see over most of the field. I'm not a coward, the words haunted Longpaw. Trudging on, the party had dispersed to explore, and he could make out Fadedpaw not far. The dark tom crossed the distance, pushing through lush tangles of grass and undergrowth. He was almost on top of his brother, but something in the corner of his clover eyes caught his attention. His lights grew wide, his fur bristling on the back of his neck. A large, black snake was slithering across a patch of exposed earth, black eyes small and shiny, reflective in the sunlight. Longpaw crouched, opening his mouth to cry a warning to his kin - but before he uttered a sound - his lips closed. A glint of accusation in his eyes which had glazed with cold anger gunned down his obnoxious sibling who knew nothing of the serpent that was heading his way. You'll pay for your arrogance, The thought was unfeeling and cruel. To let his own brother fall victim to a preventable death...it would be murder, would it not? It's what he deserves. Looking back, he had no right to play Starclan, but at the time he hadn't thought that far into it. Concealing himself with a view, he scrutinized each moment. Fadedpaw edging back from some curious sight, the snake perfectly sliding past behind him at the right moment. The reptile had stopped, seeing the cat was approaching. A few more steps and the white tom would be in striking range... "Fadedpaw! Nightpaw! Toadpaw! What are you doing out here? Get back to camp NOW! Who else is out here?...." The badgering continued in Longshadow's head, though the reminiscences vanished like smoke. There were countless quagmires like this, of lies, evil deeds, monstrous desires and wishes... The black warrior sighed, pulling himself out of the trance-like fog his mind was stuck in. That was the past. Those qualities still resided in him, but since Dreamfeather had entered his life, they felt distant and contained. She was all that mattered to him, and in a way he could say she made him a better cat. But old habits would never die. A light snow started to fall, dusting him in specs of white. I should be called Spottedshadow this time of season. He thought, smirking to himself. The cold was indeed starting to get to him, without moving and keeping his blood flowing (Out of his body didn't count.) the tom was beginning to catch a chill deep in his bones. His paw had come around, wound finally clotting so the bodily liquid had stopped dripping. Fresh snowflakes littered the slushy pool of red, soon it would be covered as if no blood had ever been spilled. His pink tongue gently cleaned the soft skin around the cut, his focus on the small task making him unaware of the closing in she-cat behind him. "You're bleeding." Mid-lick he froze. For once she was a million miles away in his head, but in reality she was only too close. This was insanity, not fate. Magic, well he didn't believe in magic. So it was just pure insanity. How could she find him here? How did she know? He put his paw down, quivering as he did so. But not of anger or disgust, his tremors were of pleasure. Longshadow smirked (He never smiled.), a rough purr vibrating his throat. "What happened?" Delving back into the obsession, her concern for him was thrilling. True she could have been just doing her duty as deputy and checking on a clan-mate, but in her tone individualized passion could be deciphered. "Cut myself on some ice." His smooth voice was no different than ever, cool and calm - unemotional as he gave his unpretentious answer. He turned his head to look back at her through the soft falling white, she was just as beautiful as he remembered up close. Getting to his paws, he turned slowly to face her, and then sat down again. He didn't show to her his paw, instead he curled his tail around it. The mysterious warrior's clover green eyes surveyed her, starting at her face and working down, but always returning to her face. And those eyes. In the pallid landscape they looked soft and deep, captivating. The powerful urge to draw nearer to the Bengal itched at his paws. Dreamfeather. Such a suiting name. This felt like a dream after all. Still staring at her, he wanted to say more, but his words had abandoned him. Looking at her was enough. word count: 1103 | notes: I just noticed they both have personal issues. xDD This is my first time roleplaying in months, sorry if I ramble. DDX | credit

It's dragging me down and I can't pull away {dreamfeather} { When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep }
After she had spoken, she went into something she often did around Longshadow; high-alert mode. Blue eyes, colder than any of the ice crystals dancing in the air around them, studied him with interest. Ears swiveled on her head, directed toward the tom-cat; her tail twitched a number of times. There wasn't much to his looks; a sleek, plain black pelt, a long body and tail, eyes of a dull green hue with nary a spark of emerald to them. Still, it wasn't any amount of good looks or strength that impressed her most in another. She could look all she wanted to at his appearance, and many cats wouldn't see much in Longshadow. But it was his mind that drew her to him. Dreamfeather wished she could look into his thoughts, his memories, his heart, even; if only it were as easy to look into his head as it was to look into his eyes. Even so, as she stilled and gazed at him with serious cerulean eyes, she saw him freeze, going rigid, and then noticed as a shiver rippled through his body, appearing to do so from head to tail. Would he be surprised to see her? Or had Longshadow, like herself, known all along that he would meet the deputy out here? Did he have some sort of premonition that she was close by, a trembling presence on the edge of his mind? Perhaps it was all in her head. Straying eyes, the nights then she knew she would see him out in the woods. The odd way he seemed to act around Voidstar, though for what reason she didn't know. He's driving me insane, little by little.
{ When you try your best, but you don't succeed }
He had not yet turned toward her, but she thought she heard, at a low level, a purr in his throat. Had she imagined it? No... there it was again! Cut myself on some ice. By his words, it was impossible to tell whether he was being welcoming or blunt with her. His tone didn't fluctuate, a constant, unwavering sound. She wished he would speak with more personality, his voice appearing to her a monotone. Still, her inward thoughts on this only made her realize that she spoke much the same way, her words only rising and falling with anger or authority. Perhaps they could both use a bit more emotion; but it wasn't as if Dreamfeather didn't feel. She didn't want to, of course, but that was an entirely different thing. Like now, when she was fighting to be a deputy checking on her warrior, but yet feeling her heart give a thrill as Longshadow turned to look at her. He stood, and she thought he was going to leave, pad off into the snow and leave her standing alone among the pines, feeling ever the moron. She could imagine what he might say to Voidstar; Have you noticed that your deputy is creeping around the territory at night, unauthorized? Many a night had been spent doing just this, winding through the trees as though she were leader of a silent hunting party, lost from view in the ghostly mist. Instead of padding away, though, he merely turned and sat so that they were face to face. Dreamfeather settled as well, though she felt a chill seeping into her paws from the ground, and wished sorely to take cover in one of the bushy pines.
{ When you love someone, but it goes to waste }
What was she supposed to say? He was just staring at her (expectantly?) and there wasn't really much one could say to his five unemotional words, not even a question. "So..." Dreamfeather was beginning to feel uncomfortable, and awkward. Maybe this hadn't been such a good idea after all. She should get going, maybe. Head back to camp? Put all of this nonsense to rest, and just go back to sleep on the branch with Islandsplash. That was a right good idea there. She could wake up the next morning, gather up the dawn patrol (she already knew who she'd choose; Islandsplash, Hailghost, Owlscreech, and Cherrypaw) and then continue living her life in the same monotonous way. Trying to keep her family in check, whilst burying her own emotions deep inside of herself; working hard every day, serving under Voidstar. After all, the leader wouldn't like to hear that his faithful, sexless deputy was chasing after toms, late into the night... Well screw that then. Her mind was suddenly made up, and a lash of her tail sent snow flying out to both sides. Fearlessly, the silver bengal met Longshadow's eyes fully at last, making no effort to hide her new resolve nor irate attitude. "What brings you out here, in the middle of leafbare, at night?" Even the words sounded ridiculous to her. She snorted, breaking the look she had with him, and rose. Dreamfeather began to pace in front of the black tom-cat, her tail continuing to lash methodically, as though ticking off things in her head. Then she stopped, and the smallest of smiles was on her maw as she looked at him. "I knew you would be here, somehow." She chuckled coldly, as though he had said he didn't believe it, while in fact he remained silent. "I know, it sounds crazy. But maybe I'm crazy. Because it seems like everything is starting to go wrong. I'm doing everything a deputy shouldn't, right now." She chewed on that one for a while, and then frowned. "All because of you."

you're sick of feeling numb, you're not the only one Longshadow sensed her uncomfortableness. Picked up on the awkward silence. He thought it was simply ravishing. Not that he wanted her to feel like this all the time, but being unsure showed she wasn't strong all of the time. (But he already knew that, did he not?) Not to say the gorgeous deputy was weak, he thought of her as anything but. Everyone had their moments, their secrets. Knowledge or events they kept hidden inside, burning slowly a hole through their core. Most waiting until it bore into their very soul to remove it, then again some never did even then. Longshadow's burden did not burn; it had died and was rotting inside him. He hadn't quite expected Dreamfeather's fiery return of strength. But she always kept him guessing. His clover eyes glinted as they moved to watch the snow fly, her ice eyes drilling into his infatuated lights casting another shiver down his spine.
