Firelily was out on a border patrol, and was happy with what she was finding. Not one scent marker out of place. Her quiet smile was content. Finally, something good to take to Hallowstar! The black-striped warrior padded along, until she came to something that stopped her in her tracks. A dead bird, for some reason left behind. She bent down to sniff it and sighed in relief. Just something the apprentices forgot on the morning hunting patrol. Firelily poked it. "Not bad. Nice plump bird, hasn't gotten soggy yet." Her strange eyes were oddly interested in the prey. They stared and stared, but the warrior picked the bird up. Calling back to the others, her voice was slightly muffled. "Come along, my friends."
The black striped warrior padded into the camp, and lightly set the bird down on top of the fresh kill pile, then padded to her leader to report, thankfully not in a riddle. "Hallowstar, I have a good review. No border was out of place. An apprentice left the bird behind on this mornings hunt, but I found it and brought it back. No signs of intruders, and no border skirmishes." Firelily tilted her head to one side, studying Hallowstar. "You have been nervous. Perhaps because you haven't a deputy. Have you chosen one yet?" Her bright yellow eyes were locked with the Siamese toms, wondering. "You have shown interest in Fatesong. What about her?" The tabby moved her tail to place it on Hallowstars shoulder, but, remembering her place, stopped and rigidly wrapped it around one of her white back legs, in that strange habit of hers.
