The air seemed to shimmer in front of Fallenstreak; tiny particles glistening like raindrops. One foot after another, the she-cat padded into CelestialClan camp. The ground was damp from the new-leaf rain, muddier in some spots than in others. The tortoiseshell dropped her mouse onto the fresh-kill pile and stalked away, leaving any chance of a meal.
Pausing briefly, she circled for a moment, and sat down. Paws tucked underneath her, she curled her tail around her nose and relaxed. She had been on a border patrol earlier, and had gotten too easily distracted. Kicked out after running into one of her fellow clanmates twice, she was ordered back to camp. On her way back, she stopped to hunt, her belly growling. She had caught the mouse and originally planned to trade it for a finch or whatnot, but a sudden loss of appetite made itself known.
Now, as she lay there, ears pricked, her stomach began rumbling once more. Pushing her hunger away, she tipped her ears to try an catch a conversation to distract her mind. Successfully, she caught a few words of Thorntail, complaining about kits to his den mate, Birchfoot. The old elder used to be nice, but, as all elders, he developed an attitude. Birchfoot, however, didn't seem to lose much of her personality. She remained friendly, reminding Fallenstreak of her own mother.
Sighing to herself quietly, she continued to listen in on the elders conversations. "You can't even get to the fresh-kill pile without stumbling over a kit nowadays." Mewed Thorntail, voice tart. "Now now, Thorntail, kits will always be kits. If I recall, you were quite a kit yourself." Fallenstreak felt a purr rumble inside her, there had always been nursery stories about Thorntail's adventures as a young cat. "Yes, you're right, but I was never like these kits." He said sourly.
Becoming bored of the elders words, Fallenstreak swiveled her head to look around camp. Several warriors were gathering, sharing tongues, while another hunting patrol was emerging. Searching for anyone whom she might be able to strike up a conversation with, she was quickly disappointed. She should have known better, though. She was not popular amongst the clan, for she was always quiet. In a failed attempt to deflect the wind, she ruffled her pelt. Alas to no avail, the wind prolonged, with increased persistence. The she-cat sighed casually.

He lay in the shade of a tree, one that lent shade at the edge of the clearing. It was damp and cool here, but not muddy, so as to dampen his ginger fur. It was a favorite place of Jaspersun, for in Greenleaf the rays of the burning overhead light could be hot on his pelt, no matter how much he enjoyed hunting in the season of plenty. And speaking of which, he had his eye on a beautiful feline across the clearing. Fallenstreak, seven moons younger than him, had at last grown up into a fine warrior, lovely with a mottled calico pelt and what he thought a radiant, youthful gaze. She was shy, he had noticed, but that was no problem.
Jaspersun was a handsome tom of rather large proportions. Indeed, as he padded into the sunlight, warm as it followed the cool rain, his fiery pelt glowed, and a new shine was lent to his green pool-like gaze. He was lean and muscular, well fed with a shiny coat of fur and a long, thin tabby tail. He had a creamy white chest and underbelly, and gaze off a confident, friendly air. To most, this held true. To some, he was a shade more aggressive. Specifically to those of the male gender, though otherwise he was as polite as a gentleman could be. Just, sometimes, there were needs. Like, that puddle over there, it was practically lusting for someone to leap into it. And conveniently, a beautiful young warrior, one and the same, Fallenstreak, was settled near it.
He began to pad casually in her direction, then, taking a glance backward, to be sure of the distance to any cat who would get wet and the freshkill pile, he found it safe and leaped. Big, spread ginger paws splashed up the clear water in the dip, sending it flying up over himself and Fallenstreak. His tail lashed back and forth, sending up more droplets as he padded out nearby her, his darkened, wet fur clinging to muscle. Again, conveniently. Jaspersun sent a flirtatious grin at her. "Oops, I seem to have gotten you wet. My bad. You're a new warrior, right?" He was taller than her, due to size and age, and grinned down at Fallenstreak, his green eyes glowing playfully.
So, usually, he avoided annoying the females. But this was just a technique, and of course, nothing was constant with him. He might pal around with a tom one day, only to consider him a rival the next. His only constant male companion was his brother, Copperclaw, who was of similar coloring. They certainly had their disagreements, though. Probably a lot of cats thought he should be spending more of his time hunting in patrols and less alone with she-cats and friends, but he pulled his weight. He had even joined a hunting patrol earlier today, surprisingly. What wasn't surprising was that he was already making trouble around camp.

× × × × × × × × × × × × × × × Fallenstreak noticed one of her clanmates around camp, a handsome cat named Jaspersun. She had never paid attention to him, knowing he would never pay attention to her, but she caught a glance of him looking at her every now and again. The thought of a tom showing interest in her made her fur hot, but she always pushed the thought away. But not today, because Jaspersun was padding over to her. Watching him nonchalantly, she watched as he padded straight into a puddle. Well, padded was not the right word, it was more of a splash. Wincing as the water droplets pounded her fur, Fallenstreak let out a slight grunt of surprise. "Watch it!" She hissed, scrambling up onto her paws. She lashed her tail back and forth, shaking out her pelt. As her fur ruffled in the wind, she shot a glance at the tom, to see his reaction. Finally shaking herself dry, she settled back down with a humph.
As the tom spoke, her fur began to crawl. "Yes, as a matter of fact, I am a new warrior."
|
She said, her voice quiet. She had meant to add edge to her tone, but her shy side was showing itself once more. Wishing she wasn't completely shy for once, she turned her head away. "Not that you care or anything. I mean, who does?" She replied, voice tart. "I'm just someone to splash water on." Her mew was sharp and haste. Why were people like this to her? They either bossed her around or flirted nonstop. Wishing the ginger tom would just leave, she tucked her paws under herself and curled her tail around them. She laid her head on her paws gently, not daring to close her eyes until she was sure he was gone. Every now and again, she huffed and slid him a sideways glance, daring him to speak. He didn't realize that she had noticed him, and of course he was too dense with these sorts of things to know how annoying a drench would be. He was plenty intelligent with hunting and warrior techniques. She-cats, not always his strongest subject. To him, a drenching felt good. And hey, they were both wet, so it wasn't like he was higher above her. But apparently she didn't see it that way. In fact, she seemed to be rather annoyed. Well, that didn't mean he was walking away from this.
He ignored her hiss, well, not so much ignored as processed and didn't reply. Jaspersun found it odd that when she responded her tone was soft and without anger. His ginger fur wet, he resisted giving himself a shake, as he was wetter than her and would no doubt send a torrent of droplets onto Fallenstreak's pelt. She had managed to shake herself mostly dry, and the wind was doing it's job on his pelt, so the situation seemed key. "Hey, I knew that. I saw your warrior ceremony." He meowed, slightly apologetically as she hadn't enjoyed his splashing very much.
Rather than telling her that he was a bit of a new warrior, had been one for just eight moons, he decided to ask the obviously shy warrior a question. However, he was stopped by her scornful comment, and frowned. A different reply was formed. "Nah, I just like to jump in puddles. You really should try it sometime." Unaffected by her tone, he grinned, his comment laid back. Jaspersun had clearly taken her challenge to speak as she moved to a new position, and so padded away from the water and settled before her, not too close, curling his tail about his paws. The ginger tom realized that she was hoping he would leave, but of course he wouldn't. It might worsen her mood, but he would attempt to raise her mood for as long as it took to be effective.

The sun streamed overhead, filtering in through the trees. The gaps between the leaves enabled patches to squeeze in, reaching the heart of the camp. A sunny ray basked itself on the ground, Fallenstreak reaching for it. The sun would only help dry herself faster. Unsheathing her claws and stretching, the she-cat let out a purr, only to remember she was in the midst of having company. Giving an irritated sigh, she scrunched back up and gave the tom a sour look. Why couldn't he see she was trying to enjoy herself?
"Nah, I just like to jump in puddles. You really should try it sometime."

Jaspersun said, his voice slightly apologetic. Fallenstreak felt momentarily bad, she hadn't meant to seem that angry. It was just a surprise, that's all. "Nah, I just like to jump in puddles. You really should try it sometime." He spoke again, his voice casual. Too casual for Fallenstreak. Any emotions of pity or sorrow she felt a moment before slithered away, only to be replaced by annoyance once more. "I would try it, but I prefer a dry pelt, thank you very much." She said, her voice hard and filled with sarcasm. Hardening her gaze, she flicked her tail irritably. He was continually getting closer, invading Fallenstreak's space. "Well if you're not going to give me peace, at least have the decency to go get me some fresh-kill." She said, gesturing to the pile with her tail. She hadn't been hungry, and still wasn't, but he might as well make himself useful if he was going to continue to pester her. Plus, it would give her one more moment of peace. Rolling on her back, she stretched out once more, not caring if the ginger tom saw her. She would be glad for him to see her relaxing; then he might go away. She continued to stretch, closing one eyes and squinting at the tom through the other. When he still hadn't moved, she sighed and rolled over gruffly, licking her lips tartly. "Well go on," She began hastily. Hmmm. Reconsideration. There were prettier females in Celestialclan, and certainly they were more friendly than this full-of-herself young warrior. I would try it, but I prefer a dry pelt. She informed him, to which he was not too greatly surprised. Jaspersun didn't think she looked all that energetic to begin with, flopped about the camp, and he wondered if a run through the forest might not dry her off if only she was game for it. Now seemed a good time to abort, though. He was trying and not likely to give up, but not enough for a cat who began to act rather... prissy. Surely it wasn't rude of him to be turned away by her attitude, being ordered around by a cat who had been an apprentice just a moon ago.
He drew his tongue over a rough patch of amber tabby fur on his shoulder, which was still wet. Then, before responding, he drew himself up and gave himself a hearty shake, water flying in all directions from his pelt, and certainly at Fallenstreak. He felt drier and warmer from the action, a purr rumbling in his throat without any regretful tones. Now his fur was nearly parched, and her's was soaking again. Giving a chuckle, Jaspersun mewed, "Ah! That feels so much better." He didn't have a trace of bad feeling in his words, had truly enjoyed the shake, and gave a long stretch afterward.
As of now uninterested in the target, he glanced around camp with radiant green lights for others, but most of the cats were sleeping or out hunting. With a shrug he glanced back at Fallenstreak, giving a brief twitch of his tail. "See you later, er--- Fallenpaw!" The ginger said cheerfully, turning back without hesitation and trotting off toward the camp exit. A grin on his maw, private and only to himself, he left behind the warm clearing and headed into cool forest shade. Well, I'm glad to be away from her. It wasn't that he disliked her, just, she wasn't the most fun or friendly cat, and he hadn't known what else to do but get away before things turned ugly.
OOC. x3 End thread after her response to his leaving? (Short thread and response, I know. :P Just not feeling inspiration with them...)

The she-cat stared at the tom blankly when he didn't as so much as lift a claw. Then, he got up, and began padding away. "What the...? Where are you going?"
She called, suddenly feeling lonely. "Hey! Come ba- You know what? Forget it!"
|
She called. "I was going to apologize but forget it now!" She said grumpily. It wasn't her fault he had sprayed her with water and acted like he owned her. She stifled a sigh. Was she always going to be like this? Her mother had told he she had a wonderful personality, and she believed it for quite a while. But as she had grown into an apprentice, other cats had started to draw away from her. She never understood why, until now. Sighing, she turned onto her side and let her paws droop. Not caring if her once-again wet fur was sopping up dust, she huffed and watched other cats in the clearing. The world seemed so small lately; her life so insignificant. Other cats never invited her on patrols or to share tongues, the deputy or leader always yowled at her to do something. The elders didn't even want to talk to her anymore. A heavy feeling in her chest, she hauled herself to her paws. She felt bad for acting the way she did towards Jaspersun. She hadn't meant to be so snotty or prissy, but that was her first reaction. Sighing, she pushed her paws forward, propelling herself toward the ginger tom. Stopping next to him, she glanced at him, her eyes half down. "Look, I'm sorry for acting how I did..." She said slowly. "I'm just not used to someone paying attention to me." Her mouth felt dry, and her insides were beginning to churn. Every word felt forced. "I guess there's a reason, eh?" She asked, forcing a purr of amusement. I'm a thousand miles away But girl, tonight you look so pretty
He had barely heard the last few of her words, though figured they were bitter and rather unkind. He couldn't help himself; she definitely needed cooling down, and he was a bit impulsive, it was true. Jaspersun couldn't help that much; it was how he had been raised. It was part of his personality. He hadn't wanted to manipulate or annoy her by splashing her with the puddle, he just thought it was fun. There was no hidden meaning behind that action, though there rarely were with him.
He was not far outside the camp and didn't move much farther, stopping to survey his surrounding and make a decision. Go for a run, hunt for the clan, or, perhaps, head back to camp? The shade felt good still on his warm ginger back, and a run would feel even better. He was still quite wet, but the wind would dry him, and Jaspersun's paws ached to run. I must be part Zephyrclan! The tabby mused silently, his whiskers twitching. It would be interesting if he was half-clan, though he was not; besides, it would also be hard. Always feeling pulled between two places, his birth clan and the clan he had grown up in. It has to be difficult. Jaspersun wondered briefly what it would be like to fall in love with a she-cat from another clan; his thoughts were interrupted, though, as he heard the noise of a smaller, lighter cat running behind him.
Swiveling around and looking back with emerald lights, he was surprised to see Fallenstreak. I'm being pursued. The idea was not an entertaining one, as he had not much enjoyed her company and had only just left her with a final parting splash. Was she looking for revenge? He studied her as she stopped near him, trying to puzzle out the emotions she was feeling. He frowned at her words, which felt out of character as far as he knew her. "Ah, no, it's okay... I didn't mean anything by splashing you." He grinned, flicking an ear slightly. "You just looked bored, that's all." He wasn't all that forward, though he could be at times. "Your fur does look pretty when it's wet, though."

× × × × × × × × × × × × × × × Sighing, Fallenstreak felt defeated. She knew she had acted badly, but she didn't realize just how until now. Kneading the ground with her paws, she couldn't meet the ginger tom's eyes. "Look, I know I was rude back there and all, and I know you don't like me, but I still wanted to say sorry." She mewed quietly. Her stomach felt like she had eaten rocks. Surprised by the toms reply, the she-cat blinked. For a moment, she was tongue-tied. She had never had someone say something like that before. "Er, thanks."
|
She said, trying to sound happy and sincere. Before long, she realized how that sounded. Her eyes opened wide, her gaze flew to the tom. "T-that's not what I meant!" She stuttered, words stumbling from her muzzle. She sighed in frustration. Why couldn't she be like a normal she-cat? Thinking back to her old, apprentice life, she imagined what her mother would say at something like this. "It's okay to be nervous, he might think it's cute." Fallenstreak twitched her tail. What does he think of me? She wondered briefly, before shooing the thought away. She couldn't ask him; it would be rude and awkward. Looking up, she stared at the tom. "Well, since I'm here, want to hunt?" She asked, a gleam in her eye. She hoped hunting would give her confidence, or something to let the talk about, without focusing on her horrid personality. × × × × × × × × × × × × × × × && There's winged love on the horizon ~

Fallenstreak had changed her attitude completely. What was going on with her? She was being kind now, but still seemed so awkward. Of course he didn't think she was weird, though he had a way of making himself dislike other cats when they acted rudely, even those that he was close to, like his brother, Copperclaw. And speaking of which, he hadn't seen him today, either... Wonder if he went out hunting early, or maybe he's back at camp taking a nap? Distracted by the thought of his like-hued brother, he almost didn't notice the silence that lingered after her apology and his comments, which, most of those close to him knew, were nearly always laid back.
Hardly had she said thank you when she was retracting it. Startled a bit by her sudden outburst, he returned her gaze with curious emerald lights. "Ah, so you didn't mean to take it as a compliment?" Jaspersun joked lightly, still not completely sure of the situation and on cautious ground. He was rarely on unsteady territory with a female; either they dropped him like crow food or took to him like fire, usually, and usually he was at no loss for witty remarks. It was true, he was a flirt, but as he often told his friends, it was better to be out there too much than not at all, right? Probably just an excuse for his behavior, which seemed to come naturally to him. He had been flirtatious ever since kithood; just in different ways.
Suddenly she was back to staring, which made him a little uncomfortable. He was practiced with being unflinching, though, and studied her oddly colored eyes, quite the pretty blue though strange for a tri-colored she-cat like herself. Hunting? Sure, he would be back in his element if they were hunting, too. "Hunting is good with me. We can bring some to the elders; they've been grouchy with the rainfall." He responded with a suggestion, thinking back to Thorntail's comments earlier that morning. It was always a good thing to keep the two, Thorntail and Birchfoot, in good temperament. Anyway, they were the clan's oldest, and deserved his respect. He knew that much, if nothing else.
OOC. After a post from each of them catching some stuff, describing the forest and burying their catches and what not, Copperclaw could meet them on his way out to hunt or on his way back from hunting, and they could all decide to do something? xD Depends on what Lynx thinks. (hee, it rhymes.)

Gazing curiously at Jaspersun, she blinked at his reply to her thank-you. "Ah, so you didn't mean to take it as a compliment?" He asked, his tone joking and light. Eyes widening, she didn't know how to explain. "No,"
She began softly. "- I didn't, uh, mean for it to come out quite so..."

She fumbled for the word. Embarrassed, she scraped the ground with her paw. "Ungrateful." She finished at last. When the tom agreed to hunting, Fallenstreak felt her confidence boost. She was good at hunting; and from the sound of it, he liked to hunt as well. Ruffling her fur, she began padding toward the forest more, absently listening to his suggestion. Blinking, she flicked her tail. "Yeah, sure." She said, willing to do anything. She didn't really care what they did with the results, she was just happy to be out of one-on-one confrontation. Pausing awkwardly, she turned her head slightly, to make sure he was following. They were already in the forest, but some places were better with hunting than others. Panic beginning to stir inside her, Fallenstreak was frantically trying to think of a hunting place. "It's okay. I didn't mean anything by it. The comment about taking it as a compliment, I mean." He smiled, sure to add the last part so it didn't sound as if he was saying he hadn't meant to compliment her. He was beginning to feel a bit more at ease, muscles relaxed as he watched her speak. Though he often talked himself into a bad situation, he was extremely forgiving. A quality that wasn't the best for a tom that got into many scraps to have, really.
Jaspersun padded after the young warrior, remaining at her side. She seemed much more relaxed now as well, which was good, as he didn't usually like to put cats on the spot if they appeared so nervous. He was glad to be walking, for he was still quite restless, and when she stopped he flicked his tail absent mindedly, eager to be moving again. She had adopted a casual tone, and they seemed to be onto a better track now. As Fallenstreak questioned where they should begin, though, she seemed less sure. He glanced around quietly for the sight of prey, hoping to ease her discomfort by making a catch right here, a ways into the forest. There were a few rustlings in the grass, but none seemed promising. A call from a bird, but it seemed far away. Jaspersun tasted the air, then snapped his head upward at a familiar sound.
A bird had chirped overhead, and the ginger tabby lifted his eyes to take in the creature. It was a plump, yellow headed black bird, though he wasn't sure of just what species. Looked like it would be good prey for a Celestialclan warrior retired, anyway, that was really all that mattered to him. His tail flicking lightly, rather by instinct or for silence, he crouched and then leaped into the tree. The bird was settled not too high up, but he didn't want to jump right to it. Jaspersun's claws grappled for a hold, a few tiny pieces of brown bark crumbling away and falling beneath him. He shot up the tree with his body close against the trunk, making it to a branch just below the bird without much difficulty. His green eyes glinting and narrowed, Jaspersun crept forward inch by inch until he was just beneath the yellow headed prey. He studied it's features for a moment, drawing his breath quiet and soft, and then lunged upward, claws sinking into one wing as the bird tried to escape him, giving off a sharp alarm call that was muted as the warrior took it down and knocked the breath from it. It took only a quick, efficient bite to the neck to end the bird's life; a clean kill. Though he was yet inexperienced, he had had a talented and patient mentor; how to kill quickly had been stressed by his mentor.
"Well, how about we start around here? The birds are plenty." He meowed, after dropping back down nearby her, his words muffled by feathers.

Fallenstreak watched the tom crouch. Ears pricked for the sound of prey, the she-cat frowned. She hadn't heard anything. Feeling uneasy, she stayed put as he stalked forward. Suddenly seeing a bright yellow bird in front of the tom, she felt mouse-brained. He had obviously scented it, so how come she hadn't? Stifling a sigh, she flicked her tail. With a swift pounce and killing blow, the tom had successfully killed the bird. Slightly amused, Fallenstreak twitched her whiskers. "Well, how about we start around here? The birds are plenty." The tom said casually.
Nodding her head in agreement, Fallenstreak stood up, pricking her ears for sounds. She picked up the scent of sparrow nearby, and flicked her tail for silence. Dropping into a hunters crouch, she used a combination of sound and scent to pinpoint the birds location. Stalking forward slowly, the tortoiseshell she-cat began to see the birds brown feathered pattern. Once she was about a tail lengths away, she dropped closer to the forest floor, her breath quiet and shallow. Slowly, she hunched backward, preparing to pounce. The bird was busy attempting to pull a worm from the damp ground. As it fluttered its wings, it struggled, squawking as it pulled. Finally, Fallenstreak sprung. She launched herself forward, reaching her paws out. With one swift blow, she dealt a killing blow, cutting off the birds attempt at an alarm call.
Sparrow dangling from her jaws, the she-cat padded back to the ginger tom. Nodding in agreement to his words, the tortoiseshell swished her tail. Dropping her catch, she kicked dirt over it, burying it for later. "How much do propose we catch?"
She asked casually, genuinely wondering. After all, this wasn't an official hunting patrol.

I'm a thousand miles away But girl, tonight you look so pretty
As the orange tabby looked back, his fur ruffled in all places and one ear twitching, he felt a slight purr rumble in his throat. It was too deep to be heard, but it was there anyway. Feathers floated around him in the warm greenleaf air, a few small, fluffy ones sticking to his muzzle. They made it difficult to catch any new scents, considering the fresh, tempting aroma was in his nose. It was a beautiful time of day, the forest a symphony of sounds that melded together in a lovely song. Jaspersun wanted to hunt more, loving the feel of blood pulsing through his veins and his heart pounding in his ears, an ever reminder that he was alive, they were alive. I'm glad Fallenstreak came along after all. He decided, glad to share it with someone and not witness it alone. Maybe we could be friends. They had definitely started on the wrong paw, but that wasn't her fault. Well... maybe it was both of their faults.
Just before she could scent her prey he turned to bury his. He began to dig the hole, paws churning up damp earth, not noticing her movements. His digging was quiet and steady enough not to scare the sparrow away, and halted all together when he noticed. Jaspersun stopped to watch the calico as she slid with ease toward the brown bird and it's own prey. He was almost startled as she sprung, having watched with anticipation, but was proud anyway of the catch. He turned and finished burying his own quickly, green eyes glinting in the shady light of Celestialclan forest. "You're a really good hunter." He observed, nodding to the bird. The last blow had been the first for her, and she seemed more relaxed hunting than she was otherwise. "Good catch."
The forest was ripe with herbs and prey, ready for their taking. Squirrels, mice, shrews. Much more than just the two birds they had caught together. He grinned; she was picking up the casual tone, and he had an idea. "How about if we make it a contest to see who can catch the most and best, within four other attempts?" He waited to see if she would agree, thinking about where they could meet after to see which of them won. It was an immature game, sure, but Fallenstreak seemed like she needed a little bit more fun.

Fallenstreak gave a purr of amusement. They had both gotten off on the wrong foot, perhaps it had been something with their personalities. He was flirty and she was quiet, two entirely different personalities. But perhaps they could work something out. After all, they were hunting now, acting as if the previous encounter in camp has never happened. But how long will it last? Fallenstreak asked herself. The hunting had only momentarily distracted them. What if the awkwardness came back? Unease pricking her paws, the she-cat listened to the tom carefully. "You're a really good hunter."
He said. Fallenstreak felt her pelt flame up. Others didn't usually compliment her on anything, let alone her skills.
Dipping her head in thanks graciously, the she-cat parted her jaw to scent for more prey. It wasn't an official hunting patrol, but they should still try to catch as much as they could, right? The she-cat clamped her jaw shut when Jaspersun began to speak. Her eyes darted to him, and she listened intently. "How about if we make it a contest to see who can catch the most and best, within four other attempts?"

He has asked. At the proposal of a hunting patrol, Fallenstreak nodded her head vigorously. This would be perfect! "Sure." She said, trying to control her voice. She didn't want to sound too eager. But how would she do? Her skills hadn't failed her now, but would they? Nervousness suddenly making itself known, the she-cat looked away, trying not to let the tom see her emotions.
