Almost casually he threw a quick glance over his shoulder, pangs of guilt stinging him like nettles as he glimpsed Citrusflower slinking off towards the nursery, tail drooping and ears flattened submissively. He grimaced and barely mouthed the words "excuse me" to Ghoststar, hoping she was feeling sympathetic. How could he possibly do this? Which was more important, defending the clan or staying to comfort his mate, as weak emotionally as she was physically? Resisting the urge to let out a pitiful whimper, he padded, head hanging slightly, into the nursery.
Cringing at the sight of the ginger and white queen sprawled out helplessly, Lightningstrike flopped down beside her and pressed his nose into her head. "Shhh. It's alright, love." he soothed, purring slowly and rhythmically. He would have liked to stay here as long as it would take, but he only had so much time until Ghoststar gave the final call and he would be putting his life on the line. But if his lovely mate and the kits survived, what did it matter? "It'll be okay." he meowed once more, hoping her sobbing would cease. [/blockquote]

Citrusflower sniffed trying to hide her sobs as Lightningstrike came back to her, but it didn't work, it only made her cry more. "But its not alright!" She sobbed. "What if the kits grow up without a father." She meowed outraged. She wrapped her tail around her hoping it would help to hold herself together, but she was feebly falling apart. She felt so weak, so tired, so broken and numb. When she didn't feel numb she felt sore by the pain she felt in her belly everytime a kit moved. She wanted to stop crying but she couldn't gather herself together. She could not think straight. What if he did not return? How would she cope all on her own? She was growing weaker by the minute, she couldn't even lift her paw. She squeezed her eyes tightly shut wishing it all away.

She blundered into camp noisily, panting from her little jog, scanning the camp with vibrant leaf-green eyes. It was hard to be exactly sure what was going on, but Ghoststar was right there in the middle of it all, silver frame stiff and rigid as usual, so it was safe to say it was important. Midnightsun's gaze darted back and forth, taking it all in inconspicuously. There was a lot of chatter and buzz, but she wasn't going to just intrude on some random conversation, so she strolled over to the teal-eyed leader and plunked herself down casually. She hated doing this, but her inquisitive nature had once again gotten the best of her and it didn't look like Ghoststar was occupied anyways. "Err, I didn't miss anything, did I?" she grinned sheepishly, not quite looking the other she-cat in the eyes, then added, "Does this have anything to do with that MaliceClan?"
----
Golden gaze softening, his heart sunk even further into the depths of what felt like a dark, never-ending abyss. What could he say? What could even do? The right words evaded him, dancing out of his reach, snickering, cackling at his despair. It felt so wrong to leave his mate when the kits could come any moment now, but his first duty was his clan. He blinked and shook his head miserably, trying to think of some reassuring gesture. There was none. He could only snuggle farther into Citrusflower's downy ginger and white fur. "I love you. Don't ever forget that." he choked out. It wasn't her fault, of course it wasn't, he could never blame her, but she was making this all the more harder for him. [/blockquote]

Ghoststar watched as Midnightsun came padding over to her. Ghoststar sighed with impatience and the tip of her tail twitched. "You are never in the right place at the right time are you Midnightsun?" She asked quite bitterly and sighed again. "We are joining with the other clans to go and battle against Maliceclan for the last time." She meowed. "Eat, sleep, and come when I call all of the clan together to leave please." She said cooly and turned her head to look in the other direction. Her teal gaze rested on the nursery entrance where Lightningstrike had gone, poor Citrusflower, she was such a delicate little soul. She could only imagine how much this was hurting the poor she-cat, and with her kits ready to be born. She sighed again. All this stress was making her feel old. She turned back to Midnightsun. "Please forgive me, I have deep concern for many cats, as am I stressed about the battle, but I have every hope we shall win, four clans against one, we would have won the last time, had they not weakly fled at out claws." She meowed.
Citrusflower wimpered and sobbed and winced and gasped. She wanted it all to stop. She pressed closer to Lightningstrike for perhaps the last time. "I love you." She told him and gazed into his eyes as she said this. She winced as one of her kits kicked and tears welled up in her eyes again. Why did it have to hurt so much? She pressed her face into Lightningstrike's fur again and quietly sobbed herself to sleep. The fear and pain she felt could not be compared to anything that she had felt before. "Be strong." She whispered before falling into the darkness of a deep sleep. The last of her tears rolled from her closed eyes and her pain ebbed.

"Oh." she mumbled quietly, flicking her tortie ears, quite abashed. "I'll get right on that." she mewed, prancing off in the other direction, not particularly hurt by Ghoststar's cold remarks. She was used to being a disappointment and a nuisance, and there was little hope in her mind she'd ever be anything else. Clawing her way through the fresh-kill vigorously, she dragged out a chipmunk and glowered at it almost accusingly. Abruptly she longed to ground it into a pulp rather than eat it, but only maniacs played with their food. Only deranged lunatics.
Midnightsun heaved a massive sigh, letting the bottled feelings dissipate into the air, and tore into the rodent's flesh in a civilized way. Blinking in surprise as Ghoststar's voice rang out again, she whirled around, even more bewildered to find the silver leader apologizing. She swallowed a hunk of meat forcefully and replied, "Don't worry about it. You have a good reason to be concerned." She smiled as warmly as possible, hoping there wasn't any chipmunk remains dangling from her maw.
--
He felt sick inside, watching her writhe and twist, in such unbearable pain that would not cease. And yet the worst part was that he was powerless, completely, utterly powerless. He could only lay there, allow her to bury her head in his fur, sob silent tears for the torture he could not prevent. But if there was anything he could do, if he could protect her from the dangers on the outside of her, rather than the inside, then he would gladly die doing it. His heart nearly shattered as she gazed at him with dazzling amber eyes and told him to be strong. "I have to be." he whispered back, his voice barely audible even in the quiet of the nursery, "I'm fighting for you and our kits." A few silent moments passed and he realized Citrusflower had dozed off, and she needed her rest as badly as he needed to fight this battle. But he would stay, at least for a little bit longer, to bask in her presence, until Ghoststar gave the battle cry. [/blockquote]

"Mmm." Ghoststar mumbled quietly. It was so soft it could barley be heard above the anxious chatter of the clan. Just then a gust of wind blew through the tunnels that led the way to camp, all meeting where she stood and ruffling her fur. She held her head up high and took a deep breath to clear her head. It was time. "Gather Celestialclan!" She meowed loudly, so her call could be heard by all. "We go to fight now, I have every faith in you, we shall claim the forest back as our own!" She yowled. She watched as her cats gathered and walked forward to stand by the entrance to the camp. They would win and Maliceclan would not stay in the forest, never again would the clans allow things to get this bad. She quickly ducked her head into the nursery to see that Lightningstrike was coming, the queen would be in good hands with Gryphonflight. Backing out of the den more cats were in the clearing.

Anxiously he glanced at his dozing mate once more, but she was deep in a restful slumber, deep amber eyes shut. Carefully he heaved himself up, not wanting to disturb her, and stared longingly for a moment. It wasn't an option any more; he had to come back alive. For her and the kits. Swiftly he turned, glimpsing Ghoststar peering into the nursery, and bounded back out into the main den. Pressing worries clawed at his mind, disastrous memories of the death of Zodiacteller and the previous battle, but he blocked them out with an iron will, bravery coursing through his veins. Lightningstrike loped farther on ahead, the milky scent of Citrusflower and the nursery slowly ebbing away. No turning back now.
--
Sloppily, Midnightsun cleaned up the remains of her meal and jumped up eagerly, leaf green eyes bright and glittering. With unbridled enthusiasm she darted into the crowd, tortie pelt meshing in with the others. Honestly, she had no idea how strong these MaliceClan cats would be, but a battle was a battle. She screwed her eyes shut and popped them open again, taking in a sharp breath of air. Fear was an unknown emotion to her; maybe she was in over her head, but then so be it. [/blockquote]

Sorry for godmoding GF but toxy is inactive.
Citrusflower woke with a start at a pain shooting through her body, starting at her belly. She hissed grinding her teeth tightly together, but she was unable to keep it up. Yowling she was relieved when Gryphonflight came to her rescue. She lay panting as he darted in and out with herbs. Screech's she would never have thought she could even attempt erupted from her maw. She whimpered softly and tried to breath slowly. She noticed Stratuspaw hovering around behind Gryphonflight in case he needed assistance, the apprentices eyes were wide with concern for her. Bless the apprentices little heart. Gradually everything began to grow dark, and the last thing she remembered hearing was Gryphonflight calling urgently to Stratuspaw.
When light finally reached her it came slowly, she moved to roll over, but rolled over more than she had aimed too, she gasped. There was no weight in her belly anymore. She sat bolt upright to four squealing kits, they did not like to be disturbed obviously. She took more herbs from Gryphonflight and ate them before settling down again. She wrapped her tail protectively around her precious kits, guiding them to wards her belly for milk.
